yes, but the tweet I posted was about the Italian accent (making fun of the fact that he developed a southern accent when he took the LSU job). the replies to the accent tweet are pure gold.
Got it, and since many of the posts were Sopranos and Godfather-related thought killing a kid might make him a "made" man for the job.

Was listening to a pod today and one of the hosts talked to an agent in the industry and the agent was like it’s possible to get 40 openings in the FBS this year.

The host thought it was exaggeration but if you sit down and look at the jobs that have a decent potential of coming open and their trickle down effects it could very well happen. I think previous high was in the low 30s.

Part of the Cignetti-NIL effect. Every delusional and semi-delusional fanbase/whale donors/AD will be combing the desert for the next Curt Cignetti.

The Cignetti effect is going to warm the seats in a lot of programs. There are going to be a lot of conversations between ADs and underachieving coaches where his name is going to come up.

They all may need to start combing the JUCO and High School coaching ranks to find the next Curt.

See Jonathan Smith at MSU. I thought he could be good. I still think he might be but not sure if he’ll get the time like he did at Oregon St…he’s under fire lately in just year 2. Magic put out a tweet the other day that was disheartening.

Ha, ha. Magic is no Mark Cuban.

And this guy was posted as a candidate:

But let's remember the Leipold lesson:

Wisconsin-Whitewater: 109–6//53-3

Kansas: 26-32//15-26

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

It’s a paywall but intro excerpt is free. I didnt realize Jensen Huang and his wife graduated from Oregon St.

Give some inputs and let AI make the hire….how much worse could it be than some of these AD decisions haha

Indiana winning the b10, gang banging the buckeyes in the BTCG and becoming the top seed in the CFBP would be the best possible thing…it would show with no ambiguity, it is all about coaching…GO HOOSIERS!

Haven’t seen this reported yet by the more typical mainstream CFB media

If true, the history with Nebraska and the extensions to Callahan and Frost are illuminating.

The song I Played the Fool should be played when signing:

"I'm just the kind of guy who never learns...

I played the fool, I did just what you expected, and you're making it so hard to leave this time...."

I feel Rhule felt the Nit job was a long-shot and Nebraska didn't want to take a chance the longshot would happen so they sat down and made the type of deal that each thought was right for them,

>Matt Rhule inked a 2-year extension keeping him under contract at Nebraska through 2032.
Rhule got an extension out of the opening. And, to be fair, it's a low-risk extension for Nebraska with a sweetener that Rhule would have earned -- if he earns it.
but ESPN's Pete Thamel noted that the extension comes with a $15 million buyout if Rhule took another job during this cycle. In exchange for that, Rhule's extension includes a new clause that increases his base salary by $1 million each time Nebraska qualifies for the College Football Playoff. Presently, Rhule earns $8.5 million, but will see his compensation bump to $11 million by 2027, including a retention bonus. His compensation rises to $12.5 million by 2030, which is now what he'd be set to earn for the 2031 and 2032 contract years.<

CBS Sports College Football Staff
In this November update of job security, a panel of six CBS Sports experts rated the still-standing coaches on a 0–5 scale. The composite scores offer a sharper view of job security across the sport.
> Auburn's Hugh Freeze and Wisconsin's Luke Fickell lead all coaches with the dreaded 5.00 ratings -- the hottest seats in the country and denoting "win or be fired." <

Looks like Greg's seat is just lukewarm

Was listening to a pod and a host googled what the average NFL head coach salary was and it about 6-7M. I googled it myself that was the estimate given.

On the high end you have 10-20M salaries but looks like a lot less the farther down you go.

This was updated as of April of this year.

Schiano essentially tied with Super Bowl winner Sirianni. That man needs a new agent

I looked that up and I think he got a new deal in May (article was updated in April) because he was coming up towards the end of his current one. He had a 5 year deal and this season is the start of his 5th. Estimates are that his salary got boosted up to 15M. But in those 4 years, they got playoffs, super bowl appearances and a superbowl title all under his original contract..

That's the thing though with the NFL, deals are generally renegotiated at the end not before that. No constant renegotiation. You can't leave at the drop of a hat because you had a good season or because you don't like working for Al Davis, Mike Brown, Bill Bidwell. (dating myself as I don't watch NFL anymore lol) There are no outs.

Greg's agent right now on the phone with Keli Zinn.

Haha. Rhule did not get a raise. They added a bonus if they make the CFP he gets a $1mil bonus but no increase in salary. 2 years added to contract and a $15mil buyout that comes from him but I’m sure whatever school will figure out how to pay it off but the contract is worded from him.

Brohm and Lea popping up as PSU candidates lately. Both at their alma maters. Brohm would be interesting. I’d want to see what Lea can do without Pavia though. Beck and Kill are important too. If Beck got promoted or something, could Lea replace him.

He's the latest shiny toy. His 5 year W-L record is worse than Greg's.

I posted this in another thread:

Interesting take on Vanderbilt HC Clark Lea in a paywalled story from The Athletic:

"Lea has a 23-34 record in five seasons at Vanderbilt, but context is everything. Lea came to his alma mater, the SEC’s perennial doormat, with a plan for scouting and development that was upended when transfer rules loosened and name, image and likeness compensation became part of college sports in 2021.

Lea adjusted, and his rebuild took off last year after importing the braintrust (head coach Jerry Kill and offensive coordinator Tim Beck) and quarterback (Diego Pavia) from New Mexico State
."

So. . . .Greg is 30-38 (.441) in six seasons. Lea is (.403) after 5 seasons. Lea has made the pivot. Greg may make the pivot now that he has more support from the AD on NIL. Vanderbilt is backing up the truck to lock up Lea with an extension because he may be a candidate for many openings.

The takeaway is context is everything.

I like to see faces change and the good results continue…so then it may not be attributable to only those specific players or assistants etc…but the HC being the constant involved in the good results instead.

Louisiana Governor seems unhinged and a little to vested in LSU athletics. He could be a writer for LSU.com/NJ.com putting the cost on the "taxpayers."

I wonder if forcing Scott Woodward out because of Kelly's failure and buyout , despite his hiring Kim Mulkey, who led LSU to its first women's basketball national title in 2023.,Jay Clark the head coach of the LSU Tigers gymnastics program who coached LSU to their first NCAA Championship title in 2024 and Jay Johnson as baseball coach who won national championship in 2023 and 2025 will effect what LSU offers the canidates to replace Kelly and how their salary package plus buyout would be strutured .
If the Lousiana Governor wants the school protected from a buyout like Kelly had when the next Football HC is hired, how will that effect the desirablity the job holds tor the canidates they fo after

Heard or read somewhere, cant remember lol, Paul Chryst could be a candidate for Oregon St. He was OC there in the past.

Looks like you are right, Paul is listed in a hot board candidate list for the Beaver's next HC
Paul Chryst (Former HC, Wisconsin)

>On the other side of the experience coin is Chryst, who was also among the candidates for the OSU job last time around before the Beavers settled on Trent Bray. Don’t underestimate the power of a pre-established relationship in a process like this, especially for an OSU athletic department not known for making out-of-the-box hires.<

Personalty I think he'd be a good choice. Oregon State and Washington State are not close to being top tier jobs anymore and getting someone like Chryst would be a good move for the beaver program

Good article on the last day of Brian Kelly at LSU. Takeaways- the fired AD was more involved in the day to day football operations that any other AD staffers had seen at other stops, Kelly was not much into recruiting, did not know the names of many of his players, and time had passed LSU by:

He just lacks the authenticity,” the first LSU staffer said. “And I don’t want to dance on his grave, like I see a lot of people doing, but you could almost tell that he cashed out here.”

The Tigers would come into 2025 with an $18 million roster that could — at least when it comes to the price tag — stack up with some of the best in the country.

“It’s not the old days — and when I say the old days, I mean like five years ago — where you could just load up on talent and have depth, you could win 70 percent of your games with your C-plus game,” the first LSU staffer said. “It’s like the NFL now. You’ve gotta hit on your evaluations, especially the big-money guys, your five-stars, you gotta hit there.

Coaching matters. Scheme matters. And where we missed here, is those guys that are really getting paid money, they have to want to play for you. Or else it’ll be transactional to them. And that matters when it comes to coming together as a team.
