Little early for this but this is the 3rd coach out now.
Frost, Edwards and now Collins out.
I've read Deion mentioned for this job, ASU and Auburn (should it open up and likely will). He's interviewed for TCU and Arkansas in the past so his name will likely keep popping up for the flash and recruiting chops.A good friend is a Tech alum and fan. It was time.
For who they are (a high end tech school), it's a tough job. Paul Johnson retired in 2018. They did and could do a lot worse than Paul Johnson. Coax him out of retirement. He's only 65.I've read Deion mentioned for this job, ASU and Auburn (should it open up and likely will). I think Jamey Chadwell, Alex Goresh would be decent names for GT too.
I think they purposely wanted to go away from that style of offense for the next coach after PJ, although not sure why they went with Collins given that criteria. For who they are (a high end tech school), it's a tough job. Chadwell has an exciting offense at Coastal and Goresh has been the playcaller at Tenn and was with Heupel at UCF. I kind of thought those names would fit the profile of what they might be looking for as far as identity. Look how quickly Tenn has got an identity now on offense. The playcaller of that offense might be attractive. He's definitely an up and coming name. Jeff Lebby at OU isn't a bad name either.
Frost's contract was about 15M since they fired him before that October day. I think Collins' contract was over 10M.What is the collective amount of money being paid to these guys to get rid of them? I don’t care whether the school or boosters are picking up the tab. We have become numb to such payouts.
Until there are greater repercussions or costs associated with making such moves, college athletics will continue down to drift towards being nothing more than the minor league for the NFL and have less and less attachment to primary educational mission of the university. As a result my interest continues to wane.
That's one name I haven't seen mentioned for Nebraska but wouldn't be a bad choice. I think he'd get them to solid footing.
OTOH:
Wasn't he pretty mediocre at Cincy anyway?2 years into a 6 year term? Where did this begin, MSNBC, Salon or Vox?
Deion’s name pops up for that one too. The thinking is he can recruit on the level of Saban and Smart and Harsin isn’t up to the challenge.Wasn't he pretty mediocre at Cincy anyway?
Brian Kelly had Cincy humming. So does Luke Fickel.
Tuberville had a great run at Auburn, and after a single 5-7 season, they fired him. Auburn did the same thing to Malzahn after going 8-5, 9-4 and 5-4 (2020). And Auburn is already unhappy with Harsin. They don't suffer even a moderate amount of losing at Auburn.
Bronco Mendenhall, Troy Calhoun, Eric Bienemy, Jeff Grimes, Bryan Harsin, Jim McElwain, Mark Helfrich are soem names I’ve seen pop up for it.
I think Bronco, Walters, Harsin and maybe Grimes and McElwain might be solid choices.
People always thought Leonhard would get the job but if he doesn't get the interim tag removed, I think he'll be a top DC for someone next year if he doesn't get a HC spot himself. If I'm one of those offensive minded HCs I'd seek him out after this year. I like Aranda as a defensive mind and he learned under him and has done well keeping it up since Aranda left Wisconsin.Whoa, really surprised at the Chryst firing.
Typical these days lol...give out a new contract and then eat said contract.
Pelini's record was good but I can understand personality clashes being an issue, don't see that with milquetoast Chryst. They better hope they don't fall into a Nebraska like hole that's difficult to dig out from.
Doubt it.You know seeing Chryst get fired makes me wonder how safe David Shaw is at Stanford.
I doubted Chryst would be fired but a third bad season for Shaw and you never know.Doubt it.
Five, but who's counting?I doubted Chryst would be fired but a third bad season for Shaw and you never know.
Same here. Not ready to join the RU1000, but the professionalization of college sports is a big turnoff to me. I completely understand the equity argument for players getting paid, given the revenue they generate, but that doesn't mean I have to like how it's being done, especially the ridiculous coaching salaries and facility arms races going on in our universities. What is the collective amount of money being paid to these guys to get rid of them?
