Big Ten needs to figure something out. Preferably getting OSU a different game this week as we don't need to give them a bye week heading into playing us.
could take ACC approach and bag the Illinois game so both teams have week off ahead of CCG
Honestly doesn’t this seem more palatable to OSU?Or they might just get the message from OSU that they'd rather have a bye week and play for the CFP in a couple of weeks against Iowa/Wisconsin.
Honestly doesn’t this seem more palatable to OSU?
They won’t be moved down in CFP rankings for not playing. They get to avoid anyone getting injured in a probably meaningless 6th game (it won’t be against anyone ranked or even with a winning record).
They will get to play the winner of Iowa vs Wisconsin, 2 ranked teams, the winner of which will go up in the rankings ahead of the game with OSU.
Think most votes would be for NU to play and beat Indiana for the Conference Championship! My vote :
—OSU needs to find an opponent, any opponent, this week and reach 6 game threshold.
—NU needs to play (and win ) the Rivalry game.

Unless the Big Ten changes the rules, they won't be playing us. If they find another game for them, they will.
They traditionally do things by consensus rather than a vote. I’m sure a vote wouldn’t be unprecedented, though. And likely in this case, I’d think.I know the rule will change based on an AD vote by all big ten AD’s, however is a simple majority required or is there another voting threshold that needs to be met ( IE. 2/3rds majority, unanimous)
Will be interesting to see where the AD’s of each school feel on the subject, if it does comes down to a vote. They traditionally do things by consensus rather than a vote. I’m sure a vote wouldn’t be unprecedented, though. And likely in this case, I’d think.
What is this about playing the winner of Iowa vs. Wisconsin? Did I miss something. The Big Ten Championship game is Dec 19. Someone will be playing NU in that game. The Big Ten season is over after that as far as I know.
Purdue is having COVID issues too. They just cancelled practice today. I wonder how much pressure there will be to send U of I to Columbus and force us to play IU.

Us against Indiana, OSU vs. Illinois makes the most sense. Settle who is #2 in the Big Ten with our game against Indiana. Get Ohio State into the B1G CCG. From our perspective, beat Indiana = clinch the Fiesta. Beat Indiana AND Ohio State? You're looking at as good of a one-loss resume as there is in the country. At worst, lose to both, head to the Outback bowl for a good year.
You mean this weekend? What would that accomplish? If we lost to Indiana we’re still the West champion according to the current rules, and would still play OSU in the CCG.Us against Indiana, OSU vs. Illinois makes the most sense. This feels like the easiest, most palatable solution.

I can't find a list of this weeks games but Purdue may not be able to play against Indiana. An OSU v Indiana rematch seems unlikely but who does UMD play. Are there any possible changes that do not result in rematches ? How about a Wisconsin V OSU and Minny v Indiana or vice versa
Why would Indiana play? If they play they lose the tie breaker and would be second place in the eastI can't find a list of this weeks games but Purdue may not be able to play against Indiana. Um, no, the easiest solution is Ohio State doesn't play this week, and plays championship week against Iowa/Wisconsin, while NU gets its HAT game against Illinois and then faces Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game.
This is not complicated.
Everyone went into this Big Ten season knowing COVID was an opponent.
Neither Northwestern nor Indiana have had to cancel a game because of Covid on their end.
Ohio State did. And, if we're being honest, Ohio State probably should have had to cancel last week against Michigan State, but somehow avoided scrutiny for its decision to play.
It is not Indiana's responsibility, nor NU's, nor anyone else's, to move their schedules around for the Buckeyes so they can play in the Big Ten Championship.
I want NU to clobber Illinois this weekend. Then I want a matchup with Indiana for a chance at a BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP.
Ohio State still has a clear path to the CFP without anyone lifting a finger. Just leave everything alone, and it mostly works out for all involved.
I agree. Based on the rules set out at the beginning of the season, this is what should happen. To me there have been no unforeseen extenuating circumstances that should have the Big Ten deviate from this plan.
It's not complicated for the Big Ten to fix the problem it created, either. And it's also more competitive, and more fair to everyone involved. This is a situation where strict formalism with respect to a one-off rule is ridiculous. Our players have made a lot of sacrifices this year, and they've beaten every team in the West. They deserve to play in the Big Ten Championship, not the "Big Ten Championship" with the undercard drawing double the ratings.
I think people are advocating hurting them by making them play NU in the championship game, thus handing OSU a loss.I feel like I’ve descended into madness. Are people here advocating helping the Buckeyes?
Easy solution if they want to do it: move Rutgers vs Maryland to "champions week", play Minnesota vs Wisconsin that same weekend (so everyone else can play West vs East) and schedule Maryland vs OSU for this weekend. They've already changed one rule by allowing the rescheduling of games. What caused them to do that?

Why is inconveniencing the other conference members "more fair"?
Everyone signed up for these rules. Ohio State already got their advantage with a high preseason ranking.
No need to cater to them even further. Their "+1" match up will be in primetime against Iowa or Wisconsin. The conference already moved the title game to noon eastern to as a contingency and boost ratings without a "marquee" program being involved.
There is a still a shot Ohio State still gets in without a title game appearance
