Memphis/FedEx…… Try to keep up
Reeves finally went public on Tuesday, but not with a commitment. Instead, he shared a list cut, leaving DePaul, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oregon and Xavier in contention. It wasn’t just a delay, it was a clear sign he’s hit pause on his recruitment completely.

The reason? Playing time and a clear role, a source close to the situation tells KSR. After reaching the conclusion that Kentucky was the choice, Reeves is now going back to the drawing board to evaluate his options, with one school emerging as a real contender. That program? Oregon, with a visit now on the table.

The opportunity for significant playing time and NIL money puts the Ducks in the thick of things.

Why are we getting all giddy over these mid major guys? Yeah, they can shoot, show out against conference USA comp and an occassional power 5 opponent, but there's a reason they are at mid major programs.

Can they guard SEC guards every night? Can they guard what Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee are going to put on the floor?

While I liked Mintz, he got knocked on, because he couldn't guard opposing SEC guards. I liked Grady, but the guy had too much Davidson in him. His feet hurt, because he stood in the corner all game.

I'm not real excited about mid major talents with Cal coaching. He needs better talent than that to win.

Our season next year rides on the shoulders of a transfer from South Dakota State. Gold standard.
this is exactly why the program is in trouble.

The coaches can't compete against Duke for the top guys and now 1 year after signing the NPOY they can't lock anyone down early in the transfer portal.

Meanwhile even though we bring in guys that are not NBA ready , none of them see Senior night at UK.

This is not how you run a program

It appears Cal either lacks the ability, the desire or both to change it.

I am positive I will get blasted for this, but the main reason we landed Oscar in the portal was because he wanted to come here all along, even before going to WVU. That's a unique scenario. We continually swing and miss on transfers and recruits.

until he can get that better talent, the mid majors are going to have to do

seems like they are both waiting to see what Sharpe does. Which is interesting considering everyone thinks he is gone.

Half of Auburns team last year were transfers from Mid majors. Ja Morant went to Murry State. So I mean, some kids are late bloomers. Steph Curry went to Davidson. Scottie Pippen Arkansas State. Should I continue?

no I think you are right, UK was his dream school and some of that credit has to go to Calipari, but his handlers steered him to WVU.

Then what are we retaining Cal for?

He’s here because he’s supposed to be the best recruiter. He even said it himself in his introductory press conference in 2009.

So, if he can't bring in the big fish, what does he bring to the table? Even the biggest Cal fan knows his system is outdated, his yelling has grown old and his bench coaching is sub par.

Yet we still have people in this fanbase that ask "who do you get to replace him?" What a stupid question. He's been getting outcoached by some average coaches that have less talent .

Hey Cal fans, you can't debate what I just stated, there's too much proof that backs up what I said.

Sadly this post is indicative of the arrogant cluelessness that runs this board these days.

If you did any research, you'd see that Duke, Kansas were also targeting him, among others.

My research results in Duke having a stacked roster and not totally reliant upon landing this guy.

We, on the other hand, are.

Duke and Kansas have coaches that depend heavily on three point shooting and less on defense. Does that sound like Cal to you?

Do they do? Look at the past title teams
2022- Started Dejaun Harris at 5 PPG
20201 Started Flo Thamba at 3.6 PPG
2019- Started Kheli Clark at 5 PPG
2018- Had a very balanced lineup with their worst player being Phil Booth who was still a double digit scorer
2017- Started Theo Pinson at 6 PPG
The notion that to win a title who cant start a player that might not be above average is false, teams routinely win titles with guys that are actually worse than. Brooks or Frederick in the starting lineups
I remember a discussion about sports analytics and statistics. Luck has a huge effect on stats. The working assumption of fans is that there's this measurable difference among top athletes and it just isn't so. Plus there are scads of other factors than skill. The player's home life, love life, how his breakfast is being digested, does he have an odd little twinge in his wrist that day, does he have a feud going on with a teammate or coach, etc etc etc.

I remember a loose ball during the UK-Kansas final. It came during a Kansas comeback late in the game. It bounced around and was eventually secured by a UK player. If a Kansas player had gotten it, who knows how it could have changed the outcome. Luck. Pure luck. It took skill and work and coaching to get there but the outcome was luck.
