from an outsiders perspective. I really don't know what you guys expect? This is exactly what Cal has built. He has built this whole program on the OAD rule. He has said himself that he is not here to win championships, so why would the kids be any different? You can't preach to them about getting their one year in and then heading to the NBA and use that as your only recruiting tool and then expect the kids to care about winning a championship. Why would they? You have already pretty much told them while recruiting them that it does not matter. Getting to the NBA is what matters which means you have to get yours. If you take bad shots, who cares as long as you get your numbers. I know a lot of UK fans think Duke and Coach K do it the same way as UK and Cal but that is simply not true. Similarities...yes. The same...NO. K doesn't preach come to Duke for a one year stay and go pro. He preaches come to Duke to be a student athlete, win a championship and if you are ready, you will go pro after one year but no promises. That is the big difference and the fact some of the kids he selects has to be the type of kid to accept that. Think what you want but there are some kids that UK recruits that Coach K won't touch. Not that they are bad kids but he knows they will not accept any other role than being the alpha dog OAD player. Coach K also recruits some really good players in every class that have no chance of being OAD( Allen, Matt Jones, Cook, Vrank, Jeter, kennard, etc). This gives him an upperclassman base on every team even if they are not the stars. I am not trying to pile on or say Duke is so much better but you just can't get mad because you are getting exactly what Cal created.

Ignorant post, OP. Anthony Davis is the best that's come through here and in the National Title game, at half time he told Cal he was not even going to look to shoot, he was going to get as many rebounds as possible. Booker came off the bench and didn't complain about it, etc. Cal teaches them not to be selfish, so you are DEAD WRONG. He can't help it if they have bumps in the road. Even this team wants to win a championship. Luckily, this board is just a tiny fraction of the entire UK fanbase and most UK fans know championships aren't easy - just ask Golden State last year or UNC.

Lol Coach K won't recruit the same guys as UK because he wants better student athletes? I guess Grayson Allen is a great student athlete? Lmao. And have you even seen Duke play? They have a loaded team with OAD's and upperclassmen and they still suck! And how the hell do you know what Coach K tells recruits in their homes?

This topic would make more sense if Duke was undefeated and rolling teams. Instead they're currently going through the same frustrations of the OND cycle we are. Just stick to football, Tenn fan.

Don't come here and try to talk basketball unless it's women's basketball.

Actually I just looked it up and Grayson Allen has been all-academic all ACC two years in a row and was 2nd team academic all-American last year but that is besides the point. I didn't come here to say anything bad about UK or say Duke is better or TN is better. I didn't come here to say UK sucks or Cal is a bad person or anything like that. Really was not my intent whatsoever. I didn't say Cal taught players to be selfish like one person said. For the record, just because you are a UK fan, it doesn't mean you know more about basketball than a fan of TN or anyone else. I also didn't say that UK players are not trying to win the championship and I didn't mean that Cal is not trying to win championships. I just stated that when you recruit kids by telling them getting to the league is most important thing, this is what you are going to get sometimes. I think most of you guys see the same thing but you may not be able to admit it. A friend at work stated the other day that Cal will never win another championship at UK. I told him he was crazy. The way Cal recruits the stars are going to line up and he is going to have a team that has so much talent, like with the Davis team, that nobody can do anything with them. I just don't personally think UK fans should get upset with players not really caring if UK wins a championship or not. Doesn't mean they won't try but its not what is most important to them and Cal has already pretty much told them this is ok by the way they were recruited.

How many times is throatpoker, who has been trolling this board for almost a decade now, going to post the same video of Monk laughing?

I don't think using Duke as a counter was the best idea. They're more disappointing than we are or anyone else this year, by far.

BTW, a Tenn fan uttering the words "student athlete" over here is laughable. You guys don't do the 1&done thing, congrats. Ya still cheat, your "student athletes" have grades taken care of, esp in football and bball, and 99% of your players are at the school to play football or basketball, not to pursue a real degree, just like most programs. Doesn't matter if they are good enough to play pro or not, they're there to play sports. We have some that don't stay too long, most of yours take scholarship money, take joke classes for 3-4 years. Big deal. Not to mention all the off field/court isssues your "student athletes" are involved in. But hey, that's just my outsider perspective.
