Ole Miss looked last night like what I was hoping we were going to look like on Saturday.

Lot of denial of reality here? Louisville the worst team in the country? El Oh El.

Let's revisit your retarded mockery in a few weeks when Louisville is fighting to stay out of the cellar of the ACC.

They marched it right down the field on the opening drive against a 3-8. Receivers running wide open and Corral hit them in stride. Notice he didn’t hold on to the ball for 4 seconds waiting for something to open up.

We need more tempo like we had in the 4th quarter. Shouldn’t have to struggle to get open against mid tier to mediocre teams. We will see what happens with our ACC opponent this weekend.

We do need to move faster like the 4th quarter to put pressure on defenses. OM was moving so fast on offense TV could not do replays to the point they were joking about it. The first drive they snapped the ball every 16 seconds. They say the most improvement is between game one and two so hopefully we can keep that tempo getting faster and faster against NC State this weekend and get a W.

I think a college QB can have solid stats, be a serviceable player/game manager in a run heavy offense, and still be awful if forced to stay in the pocket. See Chris Relf and Nick Fitzgerald. If they played in the ACC, their stats would have been similar.

Again, credit to OM for keeping him in the pocket and executing their plan. They are forcing Cunningham to play off his weakness, which is what they are supposed to do. All of these things can be true.

I like Fitzgerald. Where did I say he or Relf or Cunningham are bad college QBs?

I just said if you limit the run game and keep them in the pocket, they struggle big time. That’s not their game. Credit to OM for doing that last night in the first half.

It's uncanny. Every single year OM completely "dominates" their first game and people start jumping off bridges while OM fans start booking hotel rooms for the playoffs. The first coworker I saw this morning was an OM fan and he almost broke his neck trying to get to me just to say "Ole Miss played some BALL last night, didn't they?!?!"

Let's wait until they play a real team before we decide they are the greatest team to ever walk the earth. They are desperate to get that baseball national championship taste out of their mouths, so this year will be exceptionally bad.

Just another reason I'm so glad to be retired now.

Oh, these quotes many have given someone that idea:

Cunningham’s throws like a girl

If you slow down the run and force Cunningham to stay in the pocket, he is awful.

I didn't see us or Ole Miss play this weekend, and just going by stats, it seems like the first week is a really bad sign for us and a really good sign for Ole Miss. But Louisville did go 4-7 (3-7) last year, with wins against WKU, FSU (3-6 (2-6)), Syracuse (1-10 (1-9)), and Wake Forest (4-5 (3-4)). If I had to bet, I'd bet that the people downplaying how good Ole Miss looked are wearing some maroon shaded glasses, but it's certainly not implausible that Ole Miss is basically the same team as last year and Louisville is just that bad..

Did you watch the game? They absolutely dominated. Up 26-0 at halftime. Cruised in the second half. I hate them too but I can admit they looked really good tonight. Their defense looks to be much improved and Corral threw some absolute darts. Of course, Louisville could be really bad, so we’ll see how it goes once they get in to SEC play.

Ole Miss was playing against air last night. That their punter and FG kicker got snaps last night should be a red flag for them.

LOL Goat did you even read the posts??

I repeatedly said he is bad IF FORCED TO STAY IN THE POCKET. I also said Cunningham was a solid player when Louisville establishes the run, is able to play action, and use his legs. Just like Fitz. And yeah, he does have an awful throwing motion- that is true.

Let me say it again for the people trying to continue this straw man argument. Cunningham is a solid college QB when he is able to use his legs and throw off play action. If you can take away the run and force him to sit in the pocket, he goes from being solid to bad. Again, credit to OM for doing that in the first half.

OM was #3 nationally in total offense last year. They are expected to be really damn good again on offense this year. Last year, they avg'd 555.5 yds/game. Last night, they got 569. I wouldn't be too concerned if I were an OM fan looking at these "red flags"

Going to be surprised if Ole Missand Kentucky don’t each win 8 games this year. Possibly 9 for Ole Miss- and 10-2 is within the realm of possibility.

For State, I’d take 6-6 right now if you offered it to me.

Watching OM last night, the biggest difference on d, was that they were arriving at the running back etc. with attitude. Several hits reminded me of, I can't remember his first name but I think his last name was Pruitt. I know 2 got ejected for targeting but that did not slow down them hitting.

A solid victory for the Rebels to open the season. Let them celebrate. They look to have a better team this year than last.
They certainly have a better team than we do... on paper. They should win 9 or 10 games according to the experts.
Hell, with their potential-Heisman trophy QB, they could possibly win it all.
Maybe they won't implode....
BUT MAYBE THEY WILL.

When they are good they always find a way to screw it up, example 2003 LSU.

Remember last year when we opened the season with a huge victory of the defending national champs?

And then we sucked.

I watched the Ole Miss game last night and my takeaway was that they are better than they were last year. I don’t think Louisville is as bad as many on here seem to think. I think they’ll win 5 or 6 games this year. For Ole Miss, the defensive improvement was striking. That linebacker transfer from Maryland is the real deal. Basically, they hit on all their defensive transfers, their ****** young players from last year look like less ****** older players, and the extra year in the defensive scheme paid off. They look like an 8 or 9 win team.

you compared Cunningham to Relf and Fitz and said could have good stats but still be AWFUL!!! WTF

Their receiver corps is not nearly as good this year as they were last year. They have a great line and a really good running back group. I don't know why Snoop Conner doesn't play more because he's the best of the three, IMO. Corral is really good when he's not under pressure.

They're going to be good, but they won't be #3 nationally this year. I expect that they will run the ball a little bit more this year than they did last year. But all those quick-read seam routes they ran last night for big yardage aren't going to be there for them against SEC defenses.

To be fair to some evaluations, they were made in the first half. Louisville was terrible in the first half but looked much better offensively in the second half.

OM offense is explosive and defense is decent. I think there Achilles will be depth. They were gassed the second half. Don’t think I saw much substitutions on D side. That not good for fast offense and a pounding SEC OL and running game.

Ole Miss looked like a team playing their first game on the road at a neutral site with scattered crowd. They probably put this away early with a home crowd or Elijah Moore. They are going to score points. Surprise!!! It may be first game jitters but they did not take over the game offensively till late and miss Moore, so would we.

Defensively they looked small up front. All that stunting and blitzing every play won't work for long against other teams on their schedule.

Lousville would probably lose to La Tech and that's not sour grapes. Ole Miss might too.

Let's see how they look against Tulane in a couple of weeks after they play Austin Peay High School.

You think Ole Miss would lose to La Tech? Damn, that’s disappointing.

No they wouldn’t, La.Tech isn’t that good . We played poorly most of the game honestly should’ve beaten them by 2-3 TDS. After game 1 we aren’t that good either. The next 2 will give us a better read on this team.

Agree. They were rarely out of position and making sure tackles.
