Just wondering how you know this timing? I saw the NCAA quoted last week, that they usually respond in 21 days... Of course maybe UK cannot ask for waiver until school starts? Not challenging... just wondering... thanks.
Not sure where the OP saw the timing he quoted, but it’s important to keep in mind that the 21 days covers only one portion of the overall process.
The school requesting the waiver first has to pull together all of the required documentation, which includes documentation that they need the student’s original school (in this case, Wake Forest) to provide or create. Compiling all of the documentation often requires much more time than the 21 days that the NCAA staff needs for their review.
The NCAA will also take longer than 21 days if there is a high volume of requests, if it’s a complicated request that requires follow up questions or if the NCAA requires more documentation from the school. When you hear about kids who are stuck waiting on an answer from the NCAA, the problem is often that the school failed to submit all of the required documentation.
If the NCAA staff deny the waiver after their initial review, then you also have to add on the time required for a reconsideration request and/or an appeal.
So the whole process can end up taking far longer than just the 21 days that the NCAA staff needs to do the initial review.
