Fire Austin now and go find the best coach money will buy. Do it now before we get back to conference play. Why does he still have a job.

The OL certainly didn’t play well on Saturday. They did have a few good moments. How good was UCF’s OL under Austin? What’s different between his OL at UCF & the OL at NE?

One plays in a league that cares about defense….the other doesn’t. That’s about it.
The AAC is not the B1G
What’s different? The same thing that’s different with this whole coaching staff. They played in the worse conference in America against horrible opponents. They had an All American QB who made them all millionaires. It was all fools gold. None of these coaches are competent. The OL certainly didn’t play well on Saturday. They did have a few good moments. BC could and still can coach a line.IF you thought Callahan was loyal, and was stubborn and wouldn't fire his friends..... here we go again
Agree. He wasn't the ol coachBC could and still can coach a line.
UCF's OL wasn't that good either. They had a ton of speed at the RB position and Milton also helped cover up mistakes on the OL.The OL certainly didn’t play well on Saturday. They did have a few good moments. How good was UCF’s OL under Austin? What’s different between his OL at UCF & the OL at NE?
They're simply not prepared to start the year. You can't wait until halfway through the season before you develop a base level of competence to do the job the OL is supposed to do. That is a huge problem. They always start bad and get better. Anybody remember the South Alabama game?
Another cop out. Just admit you have no idea and you’re just bitching to be bitching. That’s fine. It’s obvious to me you don’t understand nuances of the game. What’s different? Is there a difference in reads between a Zone coverage (various zone coverages) and Man coverage? Which read takes longer? I’m not saying AM couldn’t be making faster reads as I believe he can and should at this stage in his career. Having played the position, I know there’s a difference in reading coverages and the play call and personnel make a big difference.I'm not saying Austin is the second coming of Milt Tenopir but AM has a lot of time that other QBs would die for. The basic gameplan vs Nebraska is take away the run, take away AM's first read. Make him beat you with his 2nd+ read which he's proven he can't do.
the only problem with this is, the good ones are employed already. you have to find someone willing to only be a coach for the remainder of the season. As soon as the offseason hits, poach the best coach we can afford.Fire Austin now and go find the best coach money will buy. Do it now before we get back to conference play. This reminds me of the threads about the defenses last year. Yes they needed some improvement but they weren't bad.
The o-line this year is not that bad. Look at the youth and you see the improvement. They had a couple of bad plays but most of this lies on bad play calling and subpar QB play. Get a QB who knows how to get rid of the ball on time and you will better line play...
how much time do you think a QB needs to make 2-3 reads and get the ball out? There we multiple times AM had about 2.5 seconds before someone as in his face or at his feet. This reminds me of the threads about the defenses last year. Yes they needed some improvement but they weren't bad.

Allen said something to the fact about playing against scout team. Well that's fine but you better do some scrimmaging at least against the two's and preferably the one's.They weren't ready for game speed. Falls on staff. Like another poster stated, they do seem to get better and always seem to not be ready game 1. The entire team was not ready for a road conf game. Again, falls on staff.
this is a .500 team at best. I'd love to be wrong but this staff has done nothing to inspire hope. Really sucks because I used to enjoy Saturdays. Now I just envy what other teams are doing, and doing right.
OK, it is year 4 for Austin. Serious question, do you see improvement? His best year was year one with the players he inherited. The production this highly rated group is sad.I feel like Austin will get the job done. He has recruited well. The players seem to really like him.
Depending upon whom you believe he has been hamstrung with who he should play and the technique they use to block the running game.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if he could be given full control of all OL things. (of course maybe he already has that).
Technique isn't any different but adjustments are. Why couldn't he adjust his line scheme from even front to odd front? They didn't practice it enough? He must not be teaching them how to attack the D Line, rather it seems he's teaching them to shield. Difference is Milton was a confident QB who knew how to attack a defense whereas AM panics b/c he doesn't feel like the O Line protects him (5 sacks). Austin is in over his head against the B1G, imho. That’s a cop out. You either don’t know the answer or you just hate Austin. How is it different - technique wise?

Oh sure, Austin is responsible for the O line and someone else is telling him who to play? Got some proof of that or are you just parroting everything to hear/read? Who would be telling Austin? Frost? Several things, Frost is not around for O line drills, Frost and Austin want to win, playing favorites only makes things worse. Austin hears the criticism and his butt is on the line. He is responsible for teaching technique that leads to results. Those results speak for themselves, but keep finding excuses and spreading rumors unless you have proof.I think it goes back to the possibility that he is being directed what to do and who to possibly play. I have no idea if either rumor is true, but, if so, I would like to see what he is capable of when given the full reigns to run the OL as he sees fit.
Ironically, most on here would say that one of the main strengths at Iowa is their OL. If you read their boards when they struggle they often go after the OL coach stating many of the same things we see on here. (yes I read multiple boards as I am a big fan of college football in general). Many fans were ready to push Polasek out the door right away as they seemed to really struggle with guard play during his tenure. Brian Ferentz also took heat for not developing the OL like people thought he should.

Have you ever been to a practice? He can't be everywhere all of the time. There are position groups doing drills all over. While he may be "around" it doesn't mean he is watching for detail. I noticed quite a few names played on the O line Saturday, I suppose Frost is making those decisions along with play calling and who is playing WR and RB?1. 2. Frost and Austin want to win...duh, even if Frost were telling Austin who he wants to play on the O line, he's the head coach, he wants X dude to play over Y dude...that's his call isn't it? right or wrong. You think Verdu tells him who to play at QB? or Held tells him who to play at WR? or Lubick tells him who to play at WR? He has a LOT of influence on who plays and if you think the opposite...okay
3. Playing favorites does make things worse...but how much worse can it get? A LOT...we'll see at the end of the season where all this shakes out.
4. EVERY COACH'S *** IS ON THE LINE...EVERYDAY!!

So the department manager works with the workers everyday in meetings and on the field, but the boss comes along and picks his favorites in all the positions? Not going to work that way. Sure he is the HC but he relies on his assistants to manage their area. There would be revolt if not.
And yes Lubick works with the WRs and decides rotation.
You are making Frost out to be the biggest micro manager out there.

Thanks for the response. Weaker conference, stronger conference - doesn’t make a difference for technique. It’s the talent that makes the difference. Experience makes a difference (we don’t have much this year). A blocking scheme makes a difference. He’s teaching the same technique he did at UCF. Yes, Milton made a difference but not in the running game (directly). AM is no Milton, not even close. Our OL is probably better than the OL he had at UCF.
UCF played in a much weaker conference, but executed at a high level with SEC fast players at their specialty positions.
They ran serious up-tempo because they could, and while Milton will never play a down in the NFL, he was a magician and serious player that executed at optimum capacity for them in that offense. Will be interesting to see how he does at Florida State this year coming back from his injury.
UCF was legit Oregon fast like he ran under Chip Kelly at Oregon. We've never seen anything close to that, and much of that is simply due to not having near the amount of speed players he had at UCF.
