they let alot of things go, that is to RU's advantage, this is how most Big 10 games are called, the OSU game seemed to be called like something out of the Big East

That’s the thing though. It wasn’t called tightly for OSU at all and really wasn’t even being called tightly towards Rutgers either until RU started to break open the game.

That’s why it was so frustrating. It’s one thing to feel like several critical 50/50 calls go against you at the end of a close loss. That happens and stinks. I’m sure Purdue feels that way today (the off ball foul that put Baker on the line that Painter flipped out over could’ve been a no call, for example). That kind of thing has happened to us plenty too.

The OSU game was different. It was clear one team was point blank dominating and then suddenly when that team built a lead (both at the end of the first half and then again in the second half when they further broke open the game) the refs starting blowing their whistles (for one side only - almost as if to keep them in the game and help them make a comeback).

You mean there are complaints about the officials??
And Bo Boroski didn't work the game?

Outside of letting Edey plant himself in the paint for the entire possession, I thought the game was called pretty fairly. Mathis drew contact every drive but I’ve come to expect he’ll never get that call. I was just happy that MJ wasnt getting picked on by the refs tonight

Ended up 17-15 tonight, which I was ok with. It's 77-73 in our favor in the B1G this season, so keep that in mind - but the calls on Myles and the no-call on Young hurting JY were egregious last game.

Thought refs were poor again. You guys are way too hung up on numbers like 17-15 or 77-73. Just because they are garbage fouls at the end of the game or they start fouling us to put us on the line does not mean the game was called fairly. The other teams are constantly in the bonus for significant periods of time before us. I thought Myles was tentative today because of fear of foul trouble. The 3 point foul on Baker was ridiculous. Young was pushed around and the non call flagrant foul where they tackled us was ridiculous. Mathis never gets the benefit of any calls. Of course Purdue fans liked how the refs called the game!

We are good now if not very good or great. We are in the best and deepest conference in the country.
We have to start getting the benefit of the doubt on many of these calls.
We lost OSU because of the refs.
It’s not whining.
Can’t stick hand in the sand and say refs don’t matter or things will even out or other silly cliches.
It’s a factor even if some fans refuse to acknowledge.

I agree on the Mathis comments. I think he purposefully goes into a crowd of defenders to get the foul, is fouled and they don’t call it. Happened at least twice in the last two games.

Did you guys hear Bardo's comment about EVERYONE being evaluated after each game? He included the refs and he stated something to the effect that the game last night was a result of that evaluation. He was also the guy who during the OSU game called out the refs for calling fouls on the bigs that were not fouls.

I thought the refs were good. Everyone bitched about pikiell having “no balls” and needing to get T’d up and be an a-hole but it looks like the refs last night got the memo without that after the Ohio state game. Let the big guys play maybe got a little ticky tacky I’m second half but most were fouls...

I’ve always felt complaining about calls here and there is petty. Home cooking has been pretty consistent in the BIG. What happened against OSU wasn’t just a handful of calls going OSU’s way though.

When I heard some of the commentators prefacing the unfair treatment by pointing out that MJ is prone to foul trouble I felt like screaming at them and saying - really, he’s prone to 5 fouls every 5-6 minutes of play - how about pulling up the kids career stats??? The seemingly unfair treatment first started when RU built a damn lead. The kid was not whistled for a foul through nearly the first 8 minutes of play. The first foul called on him was a normal defensive shooting foul on help defense. No complaints there. From the point when he picked up ridiculous foul number 2 en route to an RU blow out (Miles had played around 10 minutes at that point) the kid was literally not allowed to go near anyone without a whistle and could no longer be effective in any way. Neither was his backup, Duke. That’s how the game went down starting at a point when RU was about to mop the floor with OSU.

I think the sooner we all try to focus a little less on what impact the refs are having in a particular game, and any perceived bias they may have, the more enjoyable the overall watching and discussing of game will be. I know its hard, and I was guilty of doing a little bit of it in the game thread last night as well, but it really is something that neither the team or its fans can control. You just have to hope that over the long run it evens out.

I noticed on this Hoosier Forum a number of them asked in what world was this NOT a flagrant.
Exactly!!!! It’s a joke!!! B1G Leadership has to take these refs to task. And our fans are saying the refs did a good job! SMH!!!! Equally frustrating is the idea that it’s not fair to comment on the refs or that things even out. We are still the newbies on the block but we are good now so we deserve and we should demand respect!!
