Called a good clean half. Let them bang inside.

Agree this has been one of the better games. I thought we drew enough contact early on to go to the free throw line but didn't get those calls. Nothing egregious though.

It is very frustrating though that as soon as Mykes picks up a foul we are so terrified of him picking up 2 more ******** calls that he has to come out of the game.

This is just one example of where conistent poor officiating impacts a team and how they play more than just the actual foul call itself.

Well the officials have put their stamp on the game in the second half for sure. With 7 minutes to go it is 9 fouls to 3. three. We can win this game if we get an even whistle from here on out.

They were ok tonight. I still feel like we get most ticky tack calls against us, but they don’t go the other way. My main issues tonight were the non-flagrant on the blatant takedown on Oskar and the foul called against Geo in the last minute defending the Purdue 3.

I checked out the Purdue board and they have a thread about how that was the best officiated B1G game ever and should be used to teach other officials. I wouldn’t quite go that far.

Ended up 17-15 tonight, which I was ok with. It's 77-73 in our favor in the B1G this season, so keep that in mind - but the calls on Myles and the no-call on Young hurting JY were egregious last game.

It was being called really well into the short crew cut ref started with all the ticky tack fouls

I’m not sure. I’d have to look up the rule, but I think it states both feet and the ball have to be clearly across mid court. The feet were, but not sure the ball was.
That is the rule, both feet and the ball. I think the ball got tipped back by them, that’s why no backcourt.

That’s what I said – – I do not believe it was a violation.

Watched the replay. Both feet and the ball were over the half court line. Granted it looked like Young may have been fouled when he was trying to crossover, but the foul wasn’t called and the ball wasn’t tipped, Young just lost the handle. Not complaining, we earned a break after what happened in the last game. But we did get away with one.

How about the flagrant foul on Ives when he did a wrestling take-down of Palm which the refs even reviewed !! And still called a common foul .... unreal, that was a hook and hold as I’ve ever seen one, Ivery would have been ejected (should have).

That being ruled a common foul was absurd. Nick Suriano could’ve learned a lesson from that takedown.

We caught a break on what certainly looked like a backcourt violation on JY. All is forgiven.

it looked like the defender pulled JY’s off arm causing him to lose the ball. Otherwise it was a backcourt

There was no hook and hold, he just pulled him backwards which is a foul, but not a flagrant one.

I wouldn’t of blamed the refs for tonight‘s game. Often times in games I disagree with the foul discrepancy but I don’t feel it’s the main reason that we lost. Only the Ohio State game. That was blatant and egregious

Crazy no call on the flagrant there

My sources tell me that the refs were trying to find a way to call a flagrant on Oskar for being from sweden...

I think we got the short end. Thinking of these:

- flop call on Palmquist
- flurry of ticky tack calls early in 2H
- Mathis taking contact and missing around the rim a few times

Not sure about the over-and-back. Not saying there weren't instances where we got a favorable whistle or no-whistle, but didn't think it was even overall. Certainly not as bad as the OSU game.

We ended up ahead in the count due to late game extend-the-game fouls.

Geo is still laughing for getting called for a foul on that 3 at the end of the game.

He can laugh now, but as Bardo said, he should not have been that close to the shooter at that point of the game with only 11 seconds left in case the refs call a foul(which they should not have).

Best of Luck,
Groz

It wasn't a "hook and hold" at all, as the PU guy didn't hook OP's arm; see the video. I also don't think it meets the "flagrant 1" definition, below. It was a foul, but it wasn't excessive or severe and it wasn't a hook and hold.

A flagrant 1 foul (men's) or unsportsmanlike foul (women's) involves excessive or severe contact during a live ball, including especially when a player "swings an elbow and makes illegal, non-excessive contact with an opponent above the shoulders"
