I don't mean to disparage all of our students, because a decent number of them got their jersey Tuesday night and stayed for at least some portion of the game. It just rubbed me the wrong way seeing some of them already heading home as soon as they got their freebie.
I agree completely, I've seen the same behavior at other women's events. Not all leave for sure, but I wish that more of them stayed. I know that attendance at some sports has (or was?) tied to "Carolina Fever" and getting points to have a chance for tickets to MBB; is that correct?

Top 200 are guaranteed 2 tickets to each home football game, 2 for each MBB game (1 for dook). Students earn more points for staying until Hark The Sound:

"You must arrive and scan in before the posted game time to receive your first point. Receive additional points by staying the entire game and opening the app and scanning out after the Alma Mater.

That's my understanding, and typically they don't receive full credit for attending until after the game ends, when they get their ID scanned again. Of course, that is tied primarily to the men's game vs dook, so when that game is played earlier in the season, like this year, the incentive to continue attending other sporting events is greatly diminished.

For these giveaway games, I would love to see them give out tokens as students arrive, and award the freebie at a later point... like halftime or maybe the 5th inning of baseball. That at least forces them to stay for some portion of the game. Of course, I'm sure some of the staff would complain that doing that doubles the amount of work for them.

Unlike most schools, UNC has around ten highly successful team sports that can draw 500+ fans to meaningful games. most well over 1000. I do think this dilutes the fan pool among the teams, creating a bit of a competition among students on where they sit their butts in seats.

Using NCSU as an example, what are they going to watch beyond FB, MBB (not because they are good, popular sport), WBB and recently M Soccer? They actually draw fans to wrestling and swimming because that is the only place where nationally prominent success is. These are not really spectator sports in most schools. (WXC also great but is not a spectator sport at all.)

And we have a pretty small student body. Most of our public university peers have 50% - 100% more undergrads.

WBB is going to have to win at a high level to build that base back up we lost during the scandal and subsequent fall.

This is an excellent point. On any given day during the fall you have an option go see 2 to 3 teams capable of winning a national championship. What do you choose? I admit I love the sport of basketball most of all and I love the women’s game a lot also. I really believe we have the staff that could take this program to heights it hasn’t been in a long time now but in today’s world it’s all about spending the money.

As I have mentioned before, the biggest reason women's basketball has a deficit is because television rights are bundled with all Olympic sports. The lazy NCAA should have women's basketball under its own television rights contract. If schools received what they deserved from media rights the deficit would be much smaller.

There's another opportunity for student participation today. Our highly ranked women's lacrosse team has a game at 6pm with a unique T shirt offered to the first 500 students. Hoping that more of them stay around to watch this fantastic team in action against top opponent Stanford.
Go to the game and stand by the main entrance and watch them grab the shirt and leave in droves.

We are going to have to be more creative to get those folks to stay after halftime. Hold a raffle drawing at the end of the third quarter. Have a halftime show. I do not have all the answers, but these are just two off of the top of my head.

Important to remember that these numbers can be manipulated. And when it comes to Equity in Athletics disclosures they will be manipulated to show more money spent on women’s sports to avoid compliance issues.

for dook vs UNC and NCSU specifically, dook shares their venue with MBB. To that extent, whatever money they spend to improve, maintain and operate Hansbrough Indoor Stadium will be split on the ledger between MBB and WBB. UNC will probably do the same thing whenever MBB & WBB begin to share the same facility.

with that said, I do think Banghart is paid much less than Her Tobacco Road peers. That is just based on her market value as a less proven coach.

There's also a major ROI issue in WBB. Let's say we raised the ~$6 mil needed to close the gap between us and Dook WBB. Even if that won us a championship, how much extra revenue would that create?

If we instead put that ~$6 mil towards recruits in the revenue sports, and those recruits made the difference between a college football playoffs appearance or a basketball Final Four appearance, that generates substantial revenue for the athletics department.

Spending on WBB is a passion project. It takes donors who are passionate about it to make it work.

If the refs don’t swallow their whistle and get reprimanded for that game, we finish in a 3-way tie for 1st and get the tiebreaker as the 1 seed in the ACCT.
Do we have any evidence that the refs were reprimanded for that game the game where I believe we shot no free throws including the now departed Laney Grant getting absolutely run over on a three-point attempt

IMO, we have three problems with attendance:

1. This has been previously addressed. Too many of the reserved season tickets are purchased by Rams Club members who have little or no intention of attending regular season games, unless the opponent is dook, wolpfack, or a top 10 opponent. They buy the tickets, which are very reasonably priced, to lock in postseason tickets if we host.

2. Student attendance was way down this year when compared to last season. Your guess is as good as mine as to why. I hate to trash our students, but it appears sports, with the exception of the men's hoops game vs dook, don't mean nearly as much to them as they did when I was in school. For example, baseball gave away retro jerseys Tuesday night to the first 500 students. As my wife and I walked to Boshamer, we passed several students who showed up at the stadium, got their freebie, and then left without watching even one pitch of the game.

3. The average age of our season ticket holders is fairly high. We need to figure out some way to get the younger crowd more involved. Unfortunately that may tie in with 2 above. Sports just seems to mean more to those of us older fans / alums.
All of the courtside seats seem to be occupied by people with gray hair. I have a gray hair myself, so I’m not disparaging them and I appreciate that they support the program, but I agree that spectator sports might not mean as much to the younger folks.

Interesting to see E Is still in Chapel Hill. She went out with Laila, Syd, and JZ tonight. You’d think being in the portal (even with the DNC tag), she’d be somewhere visiting tonight.

She’s updated her profile picture on instagram, but left @uncwbb in her bio. And still has her Carolina NIL url in her bio.

That’s assuming she doesn’t already know where she’s going.

In theory we could have upped her NIL offer a lil bit after Grant was gone for good, though Grant entering first does poke holes in that hypothesis

PG: Kate, Kelly
SG: Brooks, Transfer, Zubich
SF: Burrows, Hull
PF: Achol, TQ, Astakhova
C: Toomey, Thomas, Bofia

Think we need one more guard and preferably one that can really shoot.

Top 15, S16 team unless Kate is the real deal in year 1 and Brooks becomes an All-ACC player, then I think E8 is possible.
