We played great defense on Pippen all night but good defense was a foul in the last 3 minutes, you can't touch him when the game is on the line. The crybaby lost some respect tonight from a lot of people when he got the D put on him, also he is a ball hog, takes way to many shots but Jerry doesn't want to make daddy Pippen mad.

Toppin had a really nice game. I gave him crap early on about his jump shot but it looks a lot better lately. Glad I was wrong he looks like a good one and I hope we get him for 2-3 more years. On the flipside, Brooks shouldn't be going nowhere. So cool to think of the guys we should be getting back. I know, I know, but should. I don't think Brooks is an EJ. I think he sticks around.

4th game in a row we've allowed more than 1 point per poss on defense.

The offense got better but the defense is suffering now

We can't seem to put it all together.

For all the crap Askew gets he very well might have saved the game with those 4 FTS with the way Shows was coming for us. I like the kid and am still going to root for him. Mintz is the 5th year Sr who about gave that away with the refs help. He tries hard and is proud to wear the UK uniform. He is 1 of 2 PGs on the roster and gets forced into more than he should. He should be able to have more of a Maxey role and score off the ball and not have it all on his shoulders, but luckily he seems tough and like a kid that will stick it out and be back at UK next year.
i’m right with you.

to end a losing streak like ours you knew it’d go to the final possession. then the next one is hard too. but seriously we should win a few now. you just see that in sports. our team isn’t great but it’s starting to get some chemistry and identity. mintz has been a leader on the floor at the end of games and askew was solid and didn’t turn it over which in the end is the most important thing. he was struggling with that. the types he had were bad, but he’s cleaning it up.

Idk. He may test the waters. Toppin looked better today on offense no doubt.

Our up tempo/quick shot offense is creating more overall possessions. We're not getting into that grind-it-out type of game, so it’s no surprise we're giving up more ppp.

Well actually that shouldn't matter. The whole point of per possession stats is it removes that aspect from the game.

60 points in 60 possessions is the same as 80 points in 80 possession.

It's just one sees 60 points score and says "omg that's awful" and one sees 80 points and thinks "omg that's great".

It's why people thought Virginia had terrible offenses a few years ago when they actually had a very good one. It's why people underrated 2015 Wisconsin's offense when it was the best.

The last two games it was terrible rebounding on defense that's attributed to it. The three games before that it was good shooting.

We have to be better on defense to stand a shot at doing anything special this season.

Yeah I get that, but with our offense speeding the game up, we aren't getting into our typical defensive sets. It’s a different kind of game. This team sucks in gind-it-out games, so up tempo is the way to go.

We are 2-1 in the last 3 which is good, but the officiating seems to be getting worse. In the last 3 games the refs have hosed the crap out of us. I know it will always be bad, but some of these calls are getting hard to watch. Tonight IJ got called for 3 secs LMFAO and 2 times going for a loose ball on the ground we got called for the foul. Hell, even the lady announcer thought that was horrible.

Exactly, and if both teams score 1 points per possession, the team with more possessions wins. That's not something to analyze, its just true. So if they are even in ppp then the winner in grand total of difference in rebounds and turnovers combined win every single time. Mathematically proven.

More possessions means more points when even.

Sports never end that easy when evaluating it. Tempo, efficiency, how you play in specific styles and speeds, it all matters

@kyjeff1 not arguing you, I'm actually supporting you

Edit: It didn't quote who you replied to which was where most of my points were directed

I agree.
What hurt our defensive ppp figures last night was the officiating. They controlled the game and they gave VU a lot of points.

We hurt ourselves by allowing VU to get do many rebounds and loose balls though. That’s getting to be a real problem.

That's not really how the possession stuff works. Everyone gets the same amount of possessions in a game (of course there's instances where a team would finish with the last shot of a half and have the ball to start the second half but you get the point). A possession ends when you've either made the shot, missed the shot and the other team gets a rebound, a turnover or you get fouled and go to the line. If you get an offensive rebound, it's all part of the same possession. So everything is equal when talking about these type of stats.

Tempo only matters to the point of whether your team plays better up tempo or not. There's been a ton of teams that have won titles playing at a slower than normal pace. Way more than teams that play at an up tempo actually.

Maybe we play better up tempo which definitely makes sense because our half court offense is terrible. Getting points on the break and playing quickly no doubt helps this team. But at the same rate, you can still be efficient on defense and play at a fast pace just like you can still be efficient on offense while playing at a slow pace (ie Virginia and some Wisconsin teams from previous years).

Bruiser Flint gets it. When asked in the press conference about being happy that his team has scored 80+ the last few games he said "well the games have been played at a faster pace".

At this point in the season, the only hope is winning the SEC tournament. As such I'm looking for a massive improvement in this team, something to give me reason we can make an SEC tournament run. The last two games have been wins, but we've basically matched the line. We haven't exceeded it. We won the last two games because based on our talent and based on our opponent, we should have won the last two games.

1.00 to Missouri
1.07 to UT
1.11 to Arkansas
1.08 to Auburn
1.05 to Vandy

Those figures just don't really give me much confidence. Yes we have gotten better on offense, but this team will always go into shooting droughts. They need to get these figures closer to 1 than 1.10.

This team was never going to be THAT horrible shooting the three like we were in the beginning. Those numbers were always going to go up at some point. But in a two game stretch we went 25-50 from 3 (50% and 1-1 in those games). That stretch probably doesn't happen again either.

They will still have to very much rely on their d to get them wins here.

60 in 60 is the exact same thing as 80 in 80. Ideally what you'd like is to score 80 in 60 possessions lol.

Totally agree with this. The massive fouls that were called in the second half no doubt contributed. They went to the line 28 times. Granted we went to the line 25 but we usually have a massive difference in that category.

We definitely need to be better rebounding on the defensive side. I never understood why Cal's teams are so good offensive rebounding most years but not so great on defense. I suspect it has to do with trying to block every shot and being out of position should you not get that block. But last night there was just so many loose balls I thought we could have gotten to and they all seemed to bounce Vandys way.

UT will be interesting.
They aren't the greatest offensive team in college basketball (62nd). in fact they have barely scored more points in conference than we have. So we should be able to have a good defensive game against them.

They are very good on defense tho. They are 28th in effective FG% and 18th in forcing turnovers. We struggling shooting and taking care of the ball most nights.

It's going to be a tough one.
