Official gameday thread- Duke vs Cal

Left coast
11:00 (not a typo, repeat not a typo)
ACCN

well with the stupidity of the ACC finally results in a ridiculous cross country trip in January to take on the mighty… cal bears. I bet sky falls asleep for this one.

Duke-87
Cal-60

[Mac9192]

@pisgah101, I hope you're right about the outcome. This has the feel of a game where we are a step slow, and get beat.

You might be right.. but I don’t have the energy for a loss at 1 am so I hope you’re wrong LOL

[The Only Blue]

Hopefully Foster is over whatever he had and we can get a full healthy squad out there. Let's get a win tonight so we can all go to bed happy.

[dukesince91]

I’m going to have to watch this tomorrow morning. I won’t check the score, I’ll just fast forward the commercials and halftime. I’m not gonna stay up and feel like crap all day (extremely crappy if Duke loses).

Duke 85 - 73

[JustAfanatic]

Pat
Cam
Sarr
Foster
Evans

I feel this lineup is it going forward barring injuries.

We’ll win but it’ll be tight.

Evans?

Evans?

Oops

[sheyduke]

Duke wins

[JimboSlice00]

11pm start time is terrible. This is the worst part of the ACC expanding.

Cal isnt absolutely horrible like the past but this is a game Duke should win with relative ease. I say Duke by 12-15.

[Dad2ze]

Sorry @pisgah101 for texting you yday asking about this post. I thought it was Wednesday all day. Anyways we are here….Duke has the potential to lose this game being it is late and we have struggled but I can also see them beating the mess out of Cal.

Duke - 79
Cal - 67

[The Only Blue]

At least Cal had to adjust like us since they played their last couple games on the east coast.

you’re good bro!

[christophero]

We should win. But...
My west coast college track experience was not a good one. We flew out to San Diego State, I got motion sickness and ran like crap the next day. But I wasn't flying first class and staying in 5 star hotels like these slappys. We were excited to get 10 dollars for dinner.
Duke by 15.

[The Only Blue]

Come on guys wake up! Don't let what happened to UNC I happen to us

[denverexpat]

Tip off was 11PM EST? these coast to coast conference alignments are a joke.

Why can’t they play it at 6 PST? Make it make sense!

[christophero]

It's 9pm here you wimps.

[The Only Blue]

Jon sat Cam a while and we went on a run. Guess he's sending a message to Cam

[Mac9192]

Evans got hot, and helped us finish the half on a good note. The D was better at the end, but I still think Ngongba needs to control the paint better than he does. Not sure what he’s doing double teaming sometimes 30 feet from the basket. He leaves the paint wide open.

[DukeFromNYC33]

Think Cam is sick?? He sat near the end and didn’t have much energy in the first half.

Yeah I'm thinking something is up. I gotta rewatch this later to see if he missed a couple assignments or something because he sat a while

I think he may be sick but he was getting killed on defense. Slim having a game

[The Only Blue]

What are we doing keep on jacking up 3s again? Cam needs to stop giving the ball up so early. Put pressure on them and go to the basket.

[The Only Blue]

And they're already in the bonus with 15 minutes left. Get in the game guys

[The Only Blue]

6-13 on free throws

[christophero]

Close game.

[The Only Blue]

Close game.

Unfortunately think almost every game we play is going to be close because we can't shoot free throws

[christophero]

Up 15. Nice road win.

[The Only Blue]

Guess he wasn't sick. Jon sent a message by sitting him and it worked. Played a monster second half.

[The Only Blue]

Time to go to bed happy

[Mac9192]

The free throw shooting was bad, but I love that they held Cal to 56.

[JimboSlice00]

Solid road win. These west coast games have proven to be difficult for east coast teams.

Duke wins, cheats lose! Now should be a nice 5 hours of sleep before work.

[DukeFromNYC33]

Khamenia gave us a nice 2nd half spark.

[sheyduke]

Boozer continued to miss defensive assignments. Cal’s big hit four three’s on Boozer. Sitting Sarr was once again the right call in the second . He still can’t make a layup . He’s got to go up strong or pass the ball. The defense on Ames was key . The first half was slow and a lot of shooting 3’s the second half I think the “overated” chants pissed Cam off because he began attacking and not settling . On to Stanford and there 4-0 at home against ranked teams this season.

[JustAfanatic]

Sarr has tremendously weak hands. His handle isn’t great either but it’s hand strength that’s causing him to lose the ball on his drives.

[DukeFromNYC33]

Cam and Isaiah are our only 2 consistent players. Everyone else could score 15 points or suck and play 10 minutes total. This is just a weird team man.

Sarr is our best defender and appears to be the best defensive player in the ACC. I think he’s now shooting around 40% from 3 too, he made a couple nice drives and passes, but the 2nd half turnover was maddening. At this point it’s Pat I’m worried about the most.

[Mac9192]

Boozer isn't a great defender, but I think the biggest issue on defense is Ngongba. I still say we need more out of him on that side of the ball. He should control the paint better than I think he does. Sarr and Brown are both solid on defense, and Khamenia has good fundamentals, he's just a step slow.

On offense, Sarr reminds me of Cam Reddish when going to the basket, and I'd like to see Foster go north/south a little more. When Brown is on the floor, it's 4 on 5. Boozer and Evans are solid, we just need to make sure the others chip in enough to keep the defenses honest.

Despite my nitpicking, complaining... this team is 16-1.

[JimboSlice00]

Far from a polished product and I agree there are some concerns. But this team is 16-1 with 8 quad 1 wins. They without doubt have THE best resume in the country.
Last night was a quality win 3000 miles from CIS.

[bullcitygamer]

The missed free throws drive me crazy to no end!!! One of the commentators hit the nail on the head last night, "Duke is too good of a team to have the deficiency of leaving points at the charity stripe." The commentator is right, it's the little things that matter in the post season. Duke simply needs to BE BETTER at converting at the free throw line!!!

A lot of Solid Points made by everyone on here. Duke's calling card this season is it's Team Defense.

Hope Foster/Cayden/Sarr are Ready 2 Defend Stanford's Point Guard on Saturday Afternoon, because he carved up the tar holes last night. Also, Duke HAS TO be ready to Defend Well against the 3 point shot on Saturday. The Cardinal made 16 3s against the cheats last night.
