I give him credit, he knows what buttons to push to get his supporters excited, however, since my position all along was that he would in short order get us to the 6-8 win level and minor bowls, I do not have to eat any crow until we start seeing 9/10 win seasons and major bowls. I am hoping to be fed a steady diet of crow for many years to come, but for right now crow is not on the menu.
so you are... hehe.. chicken shitting out of the bet?... cuz you KNOW you'll be the one eating an actual crow

It a stupid challenge. Expecting to go bowling in year 2 is unrealistic. When you look at college football on a whole being this bad (3-21/ 0-18B1G), it's rarely been done before and look at the circumstance. Through the past 24 games we've won 3. With 15 blowouts loses in those 21. That's outstandingly bad, not only didn't we win, but we weren't even close.

Then add in the factor of playing in not only the best divsion in college football, but arguably the best conference in college football. And you'd have a better chance seeking divine intervention. In reality you should just ask for a National Championship in year 4 before you eat crow?
I can't see how anyone could think ( realistically) Rutgers will improve enough in year 2 of the 2nd Schiano era to go bowling.
My guess is year 4 might be reasonable to get to becoming bowl eligible, but this team needs a heck of a lot more talent on the roster to even expect a 6-6 record in 2023.
Hopefully I'm being to pessimistic, but can't see such a quick turnaround that in Greg's second year he'll have the team bowl bound.

It took Greg 5 years to get RU to a bowl in 2005. This is a greater challenge to get back to a bowl in our current situation.

I’m all in on Greg 2.0. But if he gets us to 6 wins in 3-4 years it will be an outstanding accomplishment imo.

We’re looking at a complete roster turnover before we bowl again imo. This is not just a few tweaks and getting experienced talent from the portal to get to 6 wins. Greg needs to overhaul the entire FB program that Flood and Ash developed. That will take more than a season or two.

It took 5 years last time and that’s really the max it should take anybody or they’ll get fired. But in one of his radio interviews iirc he said it can be quicker this time with the use of the portal and such...don’t know about year two but I’ve given examples of teams as bad a record as we have doing it year 1 (Purdue) 2 (WSU, ISU) and year 5 (Duke, IU). WSU, Duke, IU were before the portal.

I see another one safely can be ignored...
another one who doesn't have the nuts to take the bet.... sheesh.. and i thought at least SOMEONE by now would take it... is everyone actually scared of eating an actual crow?.. it's like any other bird.. sheesh

simple as this.. pluck feathers, season, smoke for about an hour(skin gets nice and crispy just like any other bird)... tender juicy poultry...

I don’t think anyone needs to eat crow.

we are a family that deeply cares about Rutgers Football

Families don’t always see eye to eye.

But most families rally and sync up in the end.

we are all stronger as an RU Family from going through this process.

IMO some of the guys eating crow are the some of the best posters on these boards. It’s great that they stepped up, but completely unnecessary.

We need to capture this unity and momentum and take Rutgers to new plateaus.

let’s sell out the friggin stadium for multiple games next year!

Why? It's a valid position for him or anybody else to take.

We're all excited to see what's going to happen. But not everybody will be as optimistic that the results will live up to the promises. And they should have a voice, too.

I'm personally waiting to see what happens. I'm excited for the change and possibility. But I'm not swayed much by talk. I'll only be lured into being positive by seeing positive results on the field.
Sorry I respect a lot of what you say and agree with a lot of your posts, but seriously a valid point is bowling in year 2? Really?

Once I see the staff put in place I will give my predictions and to me it really hinges on OC/DC

If we get a QB coach included and some top picks at those coaching spots I think we get 6 wins next year...yes extremely optimistic but I think it can be done

I was all in on Schiano as a coach and program builder...mostly because Ash took us to a level I never thought was imaginable and was to the point that i believed only Schiano could get this program and fan base back and back quickly.

Even with that, I was blown away by today, some of the things Schiano said, his presence and energy.

He brought Rutgers football without even making a single recruiting trip, let alone coach a game.

I am more patient than many so I don't expect to see 6 wins until year 3 or even year 4. We might see it sooner, but I think it will require some really good luck by way of other teams in our conference having bad seasons due to injury or a lot of young players - something along those lines. And we'd have to have really good luck for us injury-wise.

In a way, 2019 was pretty good for RU from an injury standpoint. Not perfect, of course. But pretty good.

I'll be the first. While I still don't think from a coaching standpoint, Schiano is the best coach we could have hired. There were a few things said at the press conference that bring me joy and allow me to buy all in.
1. Only he would have the balls to "force" Murphy to not only buy in but be present at the press conference.
2. He talked about being more of a mentor to the kids and CEO type head coach vs a micro manager. Now, we all know he will still be involved, but he understands it's not just him anymore.
3. Most importantly, between the name I heard for OC and his public statement of spreading the field and not being in a phone booth, we are finally going to go all in on a real college O.
I'm pumped and ready to eat my crow.

Better to eat a little crow now, than to have to eat the whole flock later on!”

I don't think so. I think getting there in year 3 would be a miracle of good fortune. Year 4 is maybe doable but it could be even longer. Lot of work to do and a lot of stuff needs to go right.

But my point wasn't that I agreed w/his expectations. Just that people will have wildly varying expectations and being tolerant of that isn't an unreasonable thing.

My expectations are extremely low for season one. We're just not deep enough in talent to reload and continue to progress season after season. Won't be until year two that I start to look for significant progress throughout the season, in the form of better and better competitiveness.

One way or the other, though, we need to figure out how to get more wins. It's crucial for recruiting. Schiano himself said as much earlier today. Gotta win to recruit, but need to recruit to win.

Some people underestimate the talent left on this team. There are quality starting LBs and quality depth at LB with players like Fogg, O3, Onyechi, Battle, Maddox-Williams, Jennings, Singleton, etc.and the LBs will look better with a better DL. Even without Blackshear, we still have 3 quality B1G RBs in Pacheco, Kay'ron Adams and Aaron Young. By the end of the year, there was a couple of WRs and DBs that developed last 8 weeks like Melton, Washington, Tre Avery, Izien, and Avery Young struggled but has talent, among others. There is also undeveloped talent at WRs and DBs that will thrive thanks to a new coaching staff. I think the kicking will be fine. DL needs coaching and depth, our DEs would look better with better DTs and the "Jack" or undersized DE will be gone. OL has 2 pieces in Reggie Sutton and Raiqwon O'Neal, the other 3 spots should be up for grabs. QB is such a mystery, we have AS with 13 starts, JLangan with 8 starts, does JLewis stay at TE or go back to QB, Cole Snyder, 2 incoming QBs 2020 or is Schiano going transfer portal. TE needs more than Alaimo. It's an easier turn around than you think with the right pieces in positions of need and other pieces transfer out in positions of too many in the off season and favorable schedule next year.

How exactly would you source this crow? I’ll be honest, it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I’ve eaten, but I draw the line at roadkill.

The best part of being a contrarian (lite), is that if Greg continues to go 1 and 0, like he did today, we can drench our crow with a healthy helping of oh-so-tasty wins.

A few, including myself, expressed the belief that a Greg redux had the potential to be good, possibly even very good...but we simply wanted the hire to be the result of a true, wide-reaching search. The private and public gyrations of the past two months however, essentially mandated that whomever Rutgers hired, needed to be bigger than the program...to erase any doubts about Rutgers commitment to B1G Football. I believe that Rutgers brass took a huge step in achieving that mandate by hiring Greg.

His speech today was truly epic! He had complete command of the room and hit on all the key points, as noted throughout this thread. I've always appreciated Greg's passion and commitment to excellence, but today he demonstrated a level of emotional intelligence that, if genuine - and I think it is - can catapult him and Rutgers Football to heights never before seen. And, now me and my permagrin are off to slumber. Go RU!!!

Basically, what I'm trying to say is...

...that I'm sorry.

But it's not my fault.

You're the one to blame.

That's one hell of an apology, Adele.

I'd stop the tournament in a flash, if I could. I truly, truly would.

Because I know it's just gonna get worse.

The way you're playing, you're destroying...

...any chance Jones and Hagen have of doing well.

And your supporters? Every man, woman, and child in Savannah...

...are so demoralized that they can barely hold down their lunches.
I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locus. It wasn't my fault. I swear to god!

Greg 2.0 is a MUCH better recruiter as a proven commodity now than Greg 1.0. He will have an easier time bringing in talent more quickly. That and I do believe the talent on this roster is better than what he walked into last time means a faster turnaround. If he can get a few lineman in the portal we could get better real fast.

Depth will be a concern but I agree there is some talent. On Oline Krimin is a load and will be a 5th year so we are good at that spot too, hopefully Vretmen and Bowles are ready to contribute and we get 2 transfer OL's to compete. Previlon is a major loss and Venesky was decent too, but as I believe someone said we return 38 of 44 starters so with another year and better coaching we should improve. With Schiano eyeing the transfer portal in advance I expect some OL, DL and QB transfers. Winning four games should be the floor and it is important to show immediate improvement for 2021 recruits.

so you're not accepting the challenge?.. other teams have done it
Who?

Colorado 4-9 - 3 blowouts, lost 4 games by 7 pts. or less.(played Hawaii thus 13 games)
Purdue 3-9 - 4 blowouts, lost 3 games by 7 pts. or less.
Iowa St. 3-9 - 4 blowouts ,lost 5 games by 7 pts. or less.

Compared to Rutgers
Rutgers 2-10 - 9 blowouts, closest game 14 pts.

I don't see the comparison. Those teams all won more games the year before and had a chance to win even more. They also didn't look like complete **** ups very often. Rutgers didn't even have a chance to win more and looked completely like **** ups the majority of the time.
