His usage of the word "We" which he said many times today, was genuine. There isn't another coach on earth who could stand up there and say "We" when talking about the team, and the school, and the state, and have it be a genuine term.

I'll be the first. While I still don't think from a coaching standpoint, Schiano is the best coach we could have hired. There were a few things said at the press conference that bring me joy and allow me to buy all in.
1. Only he would have the balls to "force" Murphy to not only buy in but be present at the press conference.
2. He talked about being more of a mentor to the kids and CEO type head coach vs a micro manager. Now, we all know he will still be involved, but he understands it's not just him anymore.
3. Most importantly, between the name I heard for OC and his public statement of spreading the field and not being in a phone booth, we are finally going to go all in on a real college O.
I'm pumped and ready to eat my crow.
Yup me too. I was not in favor of the hire early on but the man knows this place and he can sell. Good times ahead.

I don't think any crow eating is necessary. You voiced a differing opinion, but accept the decision that was made and are ready to get behind it. I bolded the part of the OP I most agree with. No one is going to say GS is a great game day coach. But I think he's a great HC choice for US and I think there is absolutely no one in the carousel right now who could do a better job at Rutgers (or is willing to come to Rutgers) given the current situation.

I was a big Hobbs must go at the end. But If Greg can forgive Pat Hobbs I sure as sh*t can forgive him. We really need him for fundraising. But I will never forget the calamity he almost perpetrated.
The way it played out was fabulous. Any interference that Hobbs caused was just the catalyst that WE needed to bring ALL of the segments of RU fandom together and create this overwhelming UNITY.Could not have turned out better if it had been planned.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi. I'm @RU4Real, and I'm a negaholic.

I, too, have been extremely skeptical of a Schiano. But listening to him this morning it became clear to me that he's more in touch with the executive level attitude that's required to be a successful coach in a major P5 conference. I was delighted to hear him say, "I have to let them do their jobs and I have to do my job." If he can stick to that, I think he can be successful, given the tools that he has.

There's not question that he gets it. He gets New Jersey. He gets Rutgers. He understands the very fabric of those things that bind us together.

I came away from his "talk" this morning very impressed and excited for next season.

This was why I said he was my Plan B, whereas Plan A was a guy who checked all the boxes. I know he's going to recruit and I know he's going to manage the program professionally. I'm skeptical if he is the coach who can beat more talented teams (it will take a long time until RU has more talent than Ohio State, Michigan, etc, if at all). My "eat crow moment" will be after RU posts back-to-back 8 win seasons.

if you saw Schiano -he clearly thanked everyone but then slapped his back ,effectively saying enough of that--we need to move on and get to work now

This. So much of what has come about these past weeks, then everything everyone said, today...just....WOW. Going back to the thread I started after the Minnesota game regarding me finally being “all in” for Greg I pointed out - IIRC - both the need for him having matured/been humbled/less of an ego, whatever, AND him allowing his assistance ti fo their jobs. Absolutely LOVED hearing all of that today!!

As most know although I reluctantly agreed Schiano was needed at this juncture but didnt want to "sell the farm" as they say. The speech today made me think if this truly is the new Schiano He might end up being a future AD here and hand picking and grooming his successor (Dare I say one of the Camps if they are willing to wait patiently)

I felt there were better choices than Greg, but Schiano was the best choice out of those that would come.

I wonder if any other person would fight so hard to get RU FB what it needs other than Greg?
Greg was the ONLY option for both us and him! We needed him because he understands the Beast that is Rutgers and NJ! He knows Rutgers is mostly staffed with liberal loons who are only interested in distributing social justice through money. He understands Trenton is filled with Two faced democrats who do not believe in hearing the truth and will sell him and Rutgers football out at the drop of a hat. No other coach out in the USA today understands that truth other than Schiano.
On the other hand Schiano needs us as well. His reputation was shot after the Tennessee fiasco and it is unlikely any other P5 CFB program would be willing to give him a chance to avoid another Tennessee situation, no matter how spurious the allegation is. So Schiano is going to help us and we are giving him the opportunity to rehabilitate his reputation. It is a match made in heaven.....or at least in the liberal hell holes known as Rutgers and NJ!

I think it's awesome to see how much excitement is spreading throughout the RU community over the hire. And I'm very hopeful that that excitement can translate to lots of good things.

Having said that, I'm going to wait until I see what actually happens on the field before I eat any crow and proclaim Schiano II a success.

I said the same thing when people (admittedly a lot less people than now) were raving about Ash after the hire. The proof will be in steadily improving recruiting ranking and better performance on the field on game day. When I see that, I'll eat crow.

I will say that he's off to a great start and I that I support Schiano, his coaches and players 100%. Go RU!

I wasn't sold on the fact Greg was the best coach for Rutgers. I did come to realize he was the absolute best face of the program which could be more important. I don't think there was another person who could have mobilized the forces and finally made the administration act like a B1G school.

I'm in. Pass the gravy, this crow is a tad dry.

Honestly I’m still shocked Schiano took the job. I wouldn’t have wanted it, and until the first week of November I didn’t think he wanted it. I’m not the sentimental type, so restoring faded glory of 2006 means nothing to me. I thought either a young hungry coach with Jersey ties or a Peter Principled SEC/ACC coach would be named this week.

I was a Rutgers fan before Schiano, I was a Rutgers fan during Schiano, I was a Rutgers fan after Schiano. I just want some good football to be proud of.

I hit on 2 and 3 in my long post - huge points. Shows that at least conceptually he's learned some lessons and is willing to change to be a better coach and leader. Now he just needs to execute on those things, but I don't think it was just lip service and with much better assistants (since he got the $$ he wanted), he ought to be able to delegate more to them and see that it works, allowing Greg to focus on the players and the team.

Great thread - just like Greg said, in obvious reference to the difficulties between him and Hobbs (and others) during negotiations, that's all water under the bridge and we all need to start focusing on moving the program forward in the weeks, months and years ahead. Let's not worry about crow - let's worry about filling up the stadium and filling up the donation baskets

Crow is half baked, needs to be served at a bowl. Things seem very encouraging though. I liked the story of his binder showing he is aware of the portal potential and scouted out players in advance. Getting money for top assistants and allowing a top OC to run a modern offense that spreads the field sounds so F'n good. He seems to have grown and continued to learn since he left. He is dynamic and ready to work. All good. I felt there were other worthy candidates out their but I am a fan of Rutgers University and their football team so I support Schiano 100%.

Great sentiment, although I'm pretty sure we'll all find some new petty arguments to have, but at least not about who should be coach - until the first bad loss, lol...

Until the first bad loss? How about the first 3 and out on offense vs Monmouth?

Some of the RU fans in the game threads have a hair trigger.

Go away please!
Why? It's a valid position for him or anybody else to take.

We're all excited to see what's going to happen. But not everybody will be as optimistic that the results will live up to the promises. And they should have a voice, too.

I'm personally waiting to see what happens. I'm excited for the change and possibility. But I'm not swayed much by talk. I'll only be lured into being positive by seeing positive results on the field.

It a stupid challenge. Expecting to go bowling in year 2 is unrealistic. When you look at college football on a whole being this bad (3-21/ 0-18B1G), it's rarely been done before and look at the circumstance. Through the past 24 games we've won 3. With 15 blowouts loses in those 21. That's outstandingly bad, not only didn't we win, but we weren't even close.

Then add in the factor of playing in not only the best divsion in college football, but arguably the best conference in college football. And you'd have a better chance seeking divine intervention. In reality you should just ask for a National Championship in year 4 before you eat crow?

I have to admit I was all wrong about ru66. I just couldn't believe he was that dumb. Boy I was wrong! Lol.
He really had the worst two weeks of posting. He certainly has no inside info. It was like the Seinfeld bizzaro world episode. Every opinion of his came out the complete opposite. Never thought that could happen to anyone but I admit I was wrong.

I give him credit, he knows what buttons to push to get his supporters excited, however, since my position all along was that he would in short order get us to the 6-8 win level and minor bowls, I do not have to eat any crow until we start seeing 9/10 win seasons and major bowls. I am hoping to be fed a steady diet of crow for many years to come, but for right now crow is not on the menu.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is...

...that I'm sorry.

But it's not my fault.

You're the one to blame.

That's one hell of an apology, Adele.

I'd stop the tournament in a flash, if I could. I truly, truly would.

Because I know it's just gonna get worse.

The way you're playing, you're destroying...

...any chance Jones and Hagen have of doing well.

And your supporters? Every man, woman, and child in Savannah...

...are so demoralized that they can barely hold down their lunches.
