I'll take it, but if everyone had gotten vaccinated, we wouldn't have the surging cases from the delta variant and would've been able to have indoor events like this without masks. Sad that we have so many people who don't understand the basic science and risk/reward math associated with the vaccines. Roughly 1000X lower death/hospitalization rates from COVID for those vaccinated vs. unvaccinated and near zero risk from the vaccines (only a few per million with severe side effects, which are usually manageable).

What’s sad is that many authorities consider it prudent and sensible to ask vaccinated people to protect others who aren’t willing to protect themselves.

If somebody wants to roll the dice with Covid that’s their prerogative as far as I’m concerned. But don’t ask me to wear a mask to protect that person. If that’s our standard these masks are never, ever coming off.

It is also to the great discredit of these same authorities that they are willing to impose these burdens upon children who should be left out of this conversation entirely since they are at more risk of choking to death on their dinner tonight than they are of dying from Covid or any of its current variants.

The risk of death from COVID for children is similar to that for the flu and we don't have children masking in schools to reduce flu risk, so I get your point. However, SARS-CoV-2 is far more transmissible than influenza, so the rationale for masking children is largely to protect unvaccinated adults, which I understand, but at some point we can't protect people who are unwilling to protect themselves.

It doesn’t bother me to wear a covering but it’ll be unenforceable. Are there going to be security guards in section 303 making sure fans are lifting their protective device after finishing a pretzel?

no. Decision makers think masks work.
Masks do work, but not perfectly. Why else would there have been essentially zero influenza last winter? Masks/distancing were enough to essentially stop flu transmissions, but not the much more easily transmissible COVID infections. Also, almost all of the countries with low case/death rates have near universal masking, but many of those countries are now seeing their worst outbreaks, due to the even more transmissible delta variant, which masks are less effective against. Again, masks work, but imperfectly. I've posted the deep science on masks numerous times and have actually done serious research on mask performance vs. toxic dust/particulates (not much different from virus droplets/particulates) in the chemical industry.

data shows they don’t work. Even Fauci said they don’t work.

don’t wanna debate in this thread. So let’s just agree to disagree

No - it’s absolutely for the children. Not only is it a lot more transmissible than the flu, it’s also associated with a global pandemic that shut the world down for nearly a year. If only from a PR perspective they can’t afford to have school closures and child hospitalizations linked to RAC events (even if only a few severe cases). Kids don’t have the choice yet to get the vaccine.

Nobody should be asked to mask up to protect an adult who won’t get vaccinated. Not now, not ever. And kids don’t need to be vaccinated. So what the hell are we doing with this ****?

There is no debate on this. The data are crystal clear. Fauci was operating with incomplete knowledge, as most were last March and after much more data on mask effectiveness became available, he changed his stance on masks. That's science, plus he was trying to avoid running out of masks for medical personnel. If masks didn't work to stop the spread of infectious agents, like viruses and bacteria, why would most doctors wear them when doing surgeries?

Children are not dying from COVID. Their natural immune systems are being compromised long term however with all the masking and social distancing. This is political BS.

Fauci either a) lied or b) is an idiot. With deference to those that think masks are useless you would have to be an idiot to think they didn’t help at least a little.

Children over 12 do and vaccines for younger children will likely be authorized by the time the season starts. I get that there is pressure to prevent any hospitalizations/deaths from COVID, but at some point we have to be realistic and COVID is no worse in young children, probabilistically, than influenza and we don't require mask protection for kids during flu season.

He "finessed" that question and badly, as I've said. I was calling for masks in early March, way before CDC or WHO, just based on the science available at that point. The effort should've been to ramp up mask production.

Yelling with a mask on seems like a recipe for absolute disaster. Oxygen inflow. I mean I get lightheaded screaming without a mask at games. This aint good. Hopefully we see a 180 here

You give him way more credit than me but honestly think your politics influence your thought process. I wouldn’t give him any out. He’s a political hack more interested in his own legacy than what’s right.

This is just anti-science. We shouldnt have to suffer for those who are not getting vaccinated. Its the leaders jobs to now get out of the way. Theres no excuse for requiring masks and not being back to 2019 life. This thang is over

I did at the NCAAs in Indy - was a non-issue and was well worth the tiny inconvenience to be able to attend those games.
It was awful. We were spread out beyond all belief, and I was still sweating like crazy under my mask, can you imagine what it’s going to be like with 1000 people packed into that place?

BTW - what about the band??!!

Haha were gonna be made fun of all over the place on social media. While other arenas are packed and people look normal were gonna be living in this dystopian world of mask forever.
