Here’s what my letter to Santa would wish for......
1. A happy retirement for Mario.
2. Besides current duties have Ryan Held add run game coordinator.
3. In addition to OC and WR, give Lubick the TE room.
4. Have Austin keep the OL, his sole function to develop a solid 2 deep at each spot. He knows what the Pipeline requires right?
5. Hire Chad Morris, previous HC at SMU and Arkansas, OC at Clemson and recently OC at Auburn, as Co-OC and passing game coordinator. He also would give us crazy connections to state of Texas high school talent.
6. HCSF, QB coach.
Easy peasy.
could morris do QB? Scott needs to step back and function more as a CEO

Austin is being judged on the run game for a team with a qb that can’t hit open players outside hashes or downfield and with 175lb rb. Good luck to a new guy to have success under those circumstances

Absolutely not! He is judged by the continually poor technique of reaching, dropping their heads, not stepping properly, engaging but not driving, and not moving their feet correctly. If a few blocks here and there were better, more consistent, a lot of what people think they are seeing gets better.

So which coach, on the offensive side of the ball, moves on after the season?

I can think of three positions that really under performed this season. I would think some changes are in the offing.

Why is no one talking about Held? Yes he recruits the JC, but truthfully how many of the have paned out?? Running back recruits. Can you really tell me they have done anything but taken up scholarship space while the healed from high school injuries??

Possibly. His kid was per 1 service the 14 th ranked dual QB when he committed to Arkansas, and has since transferred to OU so would guess dad skilled him up some. Kid will never start at OU as long as Rattler stays healthy, so maybe he’d tag along with dad.
Read online less than favorable reviews of Morris time at Auburn so who knows if he’d really be a fit at NU if he would reach out.

He's been here 3 years and the line hasn't improved one bit. Our OL is slow, they get no push, and can't protect the qb.

It will be interesting to see if they work to adjust their footwork philosophy as our young linemen get a bit bigger and stronger, especially our young tackles. It certainly could help get a better push in the run game. Right now it’s more place and seal rather than hit and drive. Be interested in thoughts from those who know a lot more about line play than I.

For me there are consistent technique issues.

They often get a good initial strike but then sit back instead of driving the guy back.

They will engage a guy and the RB will cut off the blockers hip, either side, and the D player slides off to make the play or we get called for holding him. All they have to do is take a step and show their numbers (turn their back) to the RB/hole to seal the guy off. Watch Wisconsin linemen, they are masters at this.

Our tackles tend to let the rush guys come up field too far before making contact. By this time they have a good head of steam and are harder to control. Take a step back but make contact.ans control the guy sooner.

When we have a D lineman on our guys outside shoulder we tend to reach with our arms instead moving our feet. This is why we get so many holding calls, we reach. Very frustrating..

Lastly, we are terrible about picking up guys on a outside zone or toss sweep. Usually the guard or whoever is pulling generally has the first color (D player) to the inside or if he is not there look to the outside. We wiff a lot, a whole lot.

Yeah I've noticed a lot of the same thing. We don't seem to work on much dynamic positioning and technique with our OL. Sure if the defensive guy is standing still and in the exact spot the diagram says, they might know what to do. They do ok if the guy is head on, but if the defender is using leverage from an angle they weren't expecting they don't know how to adjust their technique based on that. It's the same thing if a defender ends up being in a gap or spot they weren't expecting, they really don't know how to adjust their assignment based on that. Maybe there's too much basic technique work and not enough scrimmage type situations so the OL knows where to go when they do get to the second level.
