This is going to turn into a huge controversy. Where a few people will be blamed but who knows what really happened.
Anyways, I know nothing other than piecing together what has been said on Facebook. But I've been out there once in kayak and can remember That west edge of the island having some current.
I can't recall seeing an alligator but they are out there.
Current comes around the ends of the islands because usually where the water coming from the rivers has to go. It piles into the sound and flushes out around the islands.
But I trouble seeing this being anything where he doesn’t bear the majority of the blame unless there was something freakish like him dropping dead in the water from some sort of stroke or heart attack. Just too many people out there for most things to make sense.
We probably won’t ever know what happened, but it was probably either him doing something incredibly stupid on his own, like swimming around the edge of the island with nobody watching (which would be hard to do 4th of July would think but I guess if nobody is paying attention to him, he could be swept away if he spent his time fighting current rather than yelling for help) or swimming off to the south of the island by himself and getting worn out, (which would be easy depending on how rough it was on the south side, as boats won’t anchor up there if there are decent waves).
Or it it could have been him doing something stupid like being really drunk or high, in which case his friends also weren’t looking out for him letting him wander off by himself in that state. That would make sense because even on a holiday weekend, it’d be really easy to just pass out and float off without anybody noticing. If he passed out on the island somewhere I assume somebody would have found him by now.
just an awful situation regardless. I definitely did incredibly stupid things that could have ended up terribly if our friends hadn’t generally looked out for each other, and even then we probably benefitted from a lot of luck.
