Obsessively complaining about every call in every game gets old quick. On the flip side, though, posters refusing to talk about officiating because it's supposed to be some verboten topic also gets old quick.
Officiating is an important part of the game, and their decisions impact nearly every possession - good and bad. It's just as much part of the game as player execution or coaching decisions. We talk about player performance all the time.... every thing a player does or doesn't do on the court, fans will break down and talk about. We talk about coaching performance all the time.... substitution decisions, whether Pike should/shouldn't call a timeout, how he should act toward officials, what we should focus on in practice, etc.
Talking about whether an official should/shouldn't have made a call, or how tight/loose a game is being called, or how good/bad a certain official is.... that should be just as fair game, but some people assign a stigma to it.
Saying "this ref is why we lost" or "officiating lost us this game", though, is like saying "this player is why we lost" or "bad rebounding lost us this game"... usually it's hyperbolic and a kneejerk reaction, laying all blame at the feet of one factor of a game, and ignoring all the other factors that combined to result in a loss.
