First time in franchise history Yanks started with back-to-back shutouts. That actually surprises me a bit.

I hate to nit pick so early in the season but Boone's use of the pen always chaps me. Doval only threw 2 pitches in the 8th inning. Why not bring him back in the 9th instead of using the weakest link in the pen, Blackburn, and why not use Blackburn earlier instead of using good relievers for a few batters in the middle innings? Boone's response after the game when asked was that he didn't want to extend Doval. ???? We had a day off yesterday and have another in 3 days. Stop over thinking. I hate staying up late to see Boone over think and blow a game in the botoem of the 9th. I could have used those couple hours of sleep. lol

And I'll be glad when our bats heat up. Anemic offnese so far.

Agree. And the media questioned him over it in the postgame.

Stanton…STANTON…stole a base tonight. LOL
And a big hit in the 8th that probably won the game. Only his power got that grounder through the infield for 2 RBI.

My preseason concerns about the pen are starting to look valid to me. Against better competition they have not been good. It's early but we'll see how it plays out. It's early. 8th inning and closers can't be loading the bases every outing.

And Rice needs to stop calling for pitch reviews in the early innings. He lets ones that he should clearly ask for a review go by and then calls for a review when its not really close. I really like how fast the outcome is determined. Maybe they should up the challenges form 2 to 5.

I am sorry but I am not on this bandwagon that a lot of fans are that we have this outstanding pen. Cashman and Hal duped the fans because they could not make any decent deals to shore up the pen so we basically have the same pen as last year and they promote them with a slogan saying, "Let's run it back". It's basically the same pen as last year without Weaver and the chump closer that sucked. This is not a decent bullpen. To have 5 relievers come into the same game at home and each give up a run is not acceptable. And this time of year pitching is supposed to be ahead of hitting. So what does that tell you? These relievers we have are one batter relievers being asked to pitch an inning or more. That's the stupid Yankees way now. It's demeaning to the Yankees fans. Let's run it back? Yep. It's the same **** out of the pen as last year. Bednar is going to be buened out by the end of May.

I was worried about the pen before the season and remain concerned now. Both losses so far are on the pen. With the fact that the Yanks are going to have about 8 starters when Cole gets back (and with Schmidt still to come as well), you have to expect an arm or two to get shuffled to the pen in June and/or perhaps a trade of a starter for pen help

Weathers and Gil both have the stuff for 1 inning roles in the pen, especially Weathers as he is a lefty. There’s just not a ton of lefties coming out of the pen throwing 99 with wipeout breaking stuff like there are righties. Whether they can make that transition is a different story. But we all know that focusing on two pitches (with one of them being 99/100 mph gas) can be a helluva lot easier than keeping three of four pitches strong over 6 innings or so

Recall I said that it was a mistake to let Weaver and Devin WIlliams go. Both have flaws, sure, but both have proved they can pitch in NY and in the postseason.

Recall that I was agog at the Yankees running Ryan McMahon back at 3B. Dude let the majors in strikeout rate last year, and it's even higher this year

Caballero and Wells are both god-awful, as is Chisholm.

Yes, getting our starters back and having a lot to choose from is going to be a big plus. Ive lays felt they should make Gil a closer because he struggles just the 2nd time through a lineup, but that's just my thinking.

I don't think McMahon's great defense justifies his automatic outs at the plate. You need some power out of 3rd base. Wells has disappointed at the plate so far but he handles the pitchers really well and Jazz has always been streaky like Stanton.

Didn't see much of the game last night. Was flipping between the Heels, Yankees, and DVRd shows. Was cussing under my breath that the lowly A's had the lead in the 8th inning. Didn't see much scoring in either game with my channel flipping. Unreal that they both started at the same time and both ended at the same time. Cam said after the game he had trouble gripping the ball. Rosario showing the power from 3b we need at the plate filling in for McMahon.

So, Leiter Jr took the L last night for the A’s against the Yanks

I was reading today that he apparently made remarks last off-season after signing with the A’s that the Yanks messed up with him by using him in too many LOW leverage situatuons when he should have exclusively been a high leverage reliever

If that is true he said that…MY GOODNESS

Lost to the lowly A's at home in cold weather. UGH!

I am not a fan of Bednar. He has not shown me much since coming to NY other than allowing way too much contact from opposing hitters to be an effective closer. Needs to start missing the bats. Opponents are nailing his pitches. Maybe he will win me over in time but he just does not appear to me to be the answer.

And my wife said last night as I was screaming at Bednar, "He doesn't even look like a ball player." lmao

And Boone. Seriously? You let the 2 worst hitters on the team bat in the bottom of the 9th down a run?

This is what I'm always complaining about with the season winding down and we are a few games out. Losing early season games to chump teams. They all count regardless of when they are played.

I was switching between the Yankees and the Heels and both teams were stinking it up.

I think I'll pass on both the Heels and the Yankees today. They are mirror images of each other. Can't put balls in play with men on base, pitchers giving up runs in the same inning the teams score runs, bullpens suck, shaky defense. Bad managing.

Bednar is a joke and Jazz is having mental issues in the field.

I'm going to relax and watch some movies and the Masters. Not going to stress over two underachieving baseball teams.

Yankees just flat out suck! These are the batting averages of today starting lineup.

.133 .218 .241 .171 .000 .000 .114 .146 and Ben Rice at .356 That is some pathetic hitting. Boone has to do better than this. I can't stand him. Resting players this early in the season. A damn joke of a manager. And Hal and Cashman think he is so good.
