It's not Wednesday yet, but it is Game Day -3, so time to predict...

UK 17
NU 28

Two strong running backs, one strong run defense.

Things clicking the right way for the good guys in this one. Give up one big play, but otherwise hold UK to rather pedestrian offensive numbers. Ball control offense forces UK to stack box and Thorson hits a couple of big throws. QB play decides the outcome of this game, and ours is simply better.

NU 31, UK 21.

The game is on my birthday, and like most years, I know what my wish will be when I blow out the candles.

Hank always gives up one early as he figures out how to shut them down the rest of the way. Their kicker picks up a couple.
McCall calls an efficient game and Thorson plays as if he should have declared for the draft. Fitz goes for it on fourth a few times.

I am expecting a close game. While our 'Cats are 9-3, three of those wins came in overtime, which means the outcomes could easily have gone the other way. If just a few plays went differently, we could have wound up 6-6 or 7-5 or 8-4. We also played most of our conference games in the BIG West, and the consensus is that our division was something less than stellar this year. Oh, and we also got blown out by a 6-6 Duke squad. I love our team and I think we did well this year, but we are far from being an elite team.

So IMO playing a 7-5 team from the SEC is a reasonably good match-up in terms of overall quality. I would expect a close game that could go either way. It will be a tough game, so we had better be prepared. Who knows, perhaps another OT game?

Purple Cats leave points on the field. But the defense is stellar. 4th quarter TD by our Cats set up by a deflection INT seals the deal.

When did NU last not cover the spread? It may have been the PSU game nearly three months ago. The team is playing well, and I think they run away with this game.

I’ll always take an unranked team getting less than 40 percent of public bets against a ranked team in a bowl game. Especially with the hook. That said, I don’t want to be right in this instance. Would love to win big.

What hook? Gone to 8 at most places.

I saved my prediction until now. We are going to win by at least two touchdowns. Sagarin says about 13 or so. I don’t understand the Vegas line. This is a bad matchup for Kentucky. Also I think they are a bit disappointed with their whole season. We are better than them on both sides of the line – our offense is better than their defense, and our defense is better than their offense. Over Thanksgiving I visited my university of Louisville alum sister and husband , And I watched Louisville totally dismantle them. I understand they have Lamar Jackson, but they ran the ball down Kentucky’s throat all day.Snell have about 200 yards rushing, and they still lost more or less 41-17 or 4110 something like that. Also the Kentucky quarterback was a little banged up for that game, but he couldn’t throw the ball Worth a damn. They quit even trying to throw the ball when they were down two touchdowns, they just kept running and getting nowhere. Snell gained a bunch of yards and Kentucky got clobbered.

I am predicting a close game, but a Northwestern win. A bit worried about Kentucky run game.

I will be rooting for NU, but don't feel good about games where we are favored.

I come from a unique perspective in that I'm probably the only one that has watched the games for both teams. I'm a UK grad '84, but have been a Northwestern fan since I was young. I had a feeling they would eventually play each other, but I didn't think it was going to be this year based on how the end of the season played out.I believe as long as Thorson plays intelligently and because one of UK's best defensive players, Denzil Ware, is suspended that NU will win the game.

That makes no sense. Hasn't NU been favored in every game during the current seven game winning streak, except possibly against Michigan State?
