certainly a compelling argument .... however after much deliberation, in a conference that values education over athletics -how the universities are referenced on their respective diplomas, the way their grad schools and individual college programs are referred to carried more weight than something as trivial as a fight song

other factors that were considered and went in the favor of NU (northwestern)

year the university was founded
Academic standing of the university
Charter member of the Big Ten

In the end NU is awarded to Northwestern University
This post, like pertinear 100% of your shared thoughts, is certainly trivial.

This team and program needs desperately (yes I said it) to play a complete and generally error free game. They have not seemed to be able to do that and it is well beyond time.

This game is critically important to the overall health of this program.

Ramsey must be licking his chops based on his past experience and what he sees on film. This is as close to a must win as we have seen for a while.

I thought you were questioning the snaps per game? An uptempo offense starts after the first, first down of the series and results in less time to evaluate the back 7. Nebraska needs to play cleaner, but it is an inherently dangerous offense. You say alot of dumb ****.

As far as I am concerned this game is the biggest game of Frost’s career here and is a MUST WIN game. With PSU coming in next week, if we lose to NW we stand a good chance of being 0-3. And that would send the signal that Frost is going to have another ****** season. Frost has recruited well. But now he needs to translate that into a team that doesn’t make stupid as **** mistakes and doesn’t know how to win.

No more damn excuses. Year 3. Better recruits, supposedly than NW. Now go out there and kick some ***.

Unless things drastically take a turn as of now it looks like its NW, Wisc and Purdue at the top of the West. If we can take one of them out better odds for us.

Let's pump the brakes on Purdue.

1. The Boilermakers can't run the ball. They're extremely one dimensional. Now their receiving talent is exceptional, but the weather is going to start getting ****** with a later than normal season. I'm not sure they will be able to play pitch and catch so easily by mid November.

2. They're also allowing nearly 200 yards rushing per game despite facing two below average running teams. Every opponent they face the remainder of the season, minus Indiana, is going to have a better rushing attack than Iowa and Illinois.

Don’t forget we had extra prep time for this game.

Chances they beat us: 20%
Chances we beat them: 65%
Chances they beat themselves: 5%
Chances we beat ourselves: 50%

I like your thought. I'm thinking the percentages and options need to be adjusted.

Chances you beat you: 50%
Chances you beat us: 50%

With 4 and possibly 5 Northwestern starters on defense out, advantage Nebraska. Same on offense. Lots of guys not playing that we all thought would be the backbone of this team at the end of last year.

Point of Parliamentary Procedure:

Northwestern University is NU

The University of Nebraska = UN. It’s not Nebraska University - how in the world can people think NU is Nebraska?

You are the weirdest MFer on this site. You literally try anything you can to try to start arguments.

To be clear, that is the very definition of a troll. It would be great if you would just admit it though.

Injured or Covid? Hadn't heard this.

A variety of reasons.

1. LOT Reggie Slater opted out to prepare for the draft. Will be a 1st or 2nd round draft choice.
2. OG Sam Stovall took a medical retirement. Good football player.
3. TE Trey Pugh, a dangerous jumbo athlete at 6-5 250 lbs. when healthy, can't get healthy.
4. Team captain and #1 WR Ben Skowronek did a Ben Arnold grad tx to ND.
5. New #1 WR Riley Lees may or may not play. He was out for the Iowa game.
6. 3 year starting DE Sam Miller was a Covid opt out.
7. Both starting DTs (Kent and Gold) are out due to injury.
8. Returning starter at S Travis Whillock was a Covid opt out.
9. #1 CB Greg Newsome hasn't played this year due to injury. Game day decision for Nebraska.

The defense seems to have responded well to the personnel losses. We'll see how long that lasts. Hopefully beyond this Saturday.

No way the offense can replace what Slater, Stovall, Pugh and Skowronek brought to the table.

Can Northwestern score 27 or more? Probably not.

Can Northwestern reasonably contain the talented M&M QB tandem, make the Huskers snap the ball one more time, force some FGs and get a key turnover/penalty or 2? Maybe.

I’m more optimistic about the latter than the former. Accomplishing both would surprise me.

Just looking at the stats NW has gotten 6 pick's on the year and while they haven't given up much yardage running I don't think the opponents have been trying to run the ball much. I think the opposing RB's have shown some decent yards per carry so I want to see Nebraska concentrate on the run game with some RPO mixed in. I want to see them stay ahead of the chains so that they are in 3rd-short or 3rd-medium where they can keep the NW defense guessing. NW makes hay with their LB's so I want to see Nebraska use their TE's on RPO's and keep the LB's in conflict. I think our tall TE's may have some success.

Defensively I want Nebraska to play more tight man coverage this game. I want to see less delay on our blitz's. When they blitz/stunt I want to see them attack the young tackle that they have starting.

You would be better off attacking the senior tackle on the right side. He struggles. Skoronski is the young tackle you speak of on the left side. A true freshman. He will be the best football player on the field Saturday. Seriously. A former 4/5 star guy - stud athlete - advanced football smarts and technique - future 1st round NFL pick at any one of the 3 OL positions.

He’ll also be the smartest person in the stadium. Could have been admitted to Harvard on his academic credentials alone. Other than that he’s a pretty ordinary guy.

Interesting. Well you obviously know the players better than I do as it's your team so will grant you that. I would still test him out though just to be sure. Have to say I'd be utterly shocked if he's the best player on the field as a true freshmen in his 3rd game ever. That seems like a stretch. Guess we will find out. Thanks for the info though. Sounds like a good player.

Fair enough. Maybe I should have described him as "among the best players on the field Saturday and the one with the brightest future." Hell ... he could quit football and that statement would still be true.

They should have a fear of failure. If you fail (fumble) you are out of the game. Martinez probably wouldn’t fumble so much if he had a fear of being benched. Players should have this fear every day from the coaches “you are replaceable”.
Last year Martinez was not getting benched and everybody knows it. Luke was 100% only playing his 4 games. If the fumbles continue than bench him and try Luke. Same at the other positions, we have enough depth now to start benching the non performers.

Just watched the Iowa/NW game. I expect the QB of theirs to get some points on us amd move the ball a bit. They seemed pretty 1 dimensional. I've got money on the under. 17-27 Huskers.

Iowa however was terrible on offense. What a garbage game plan and their QB has a long ways to go. We'll get the universe back in line and blow them out.

Neither team explosive on offense at all. Wind probably hurt iowa more in that regard.

****UPSET ALERT*****
Tomorrow is our break out game. All gas, no brakes. Huskers jump out to a 21 point lead by early second quarter. No fear, just fun. We cruise to victory, 44 to 20. Huskers are riding high and in the drivers seat to win the West. The swagger is coming back. And why not, the rest of the division is meh.

Subtle semantics but would characterize it more as a can’t lose rather than must win

In year 3 - wins against the likes of NW, Purdue, Iowa etc etc shouldn’t be noteworthy

these are should win games

You ARE the likes of nw, Purdue and Iowa. The sooner you people figure out that that’s what you ARE right now, the less you’ll hate the rest of the big ten.

Ask yourself this.. bear Bryant.. or your own devaney and Osborne .. were their teams anything like frosts in year 2?

I’d love to see chinander being chinander with the bear on the sideline... he’d be hopping that fence quickly lol

yes -- which is why i stated that one poor to mediocre program beating another poor to mediocre program is not, in any way, noteworthy

Nope. All 3 schools you mentioned are average, borderline garbage programs.

We've been down for too long, but we have high standards, not like you middle-of-the road sad sacks. Please don't include is in your band of mediocrity.
