"Must win" or what? How many "must win" games have we lost?

I hate that I have the feeling we win by double digits...we just have so much more talent but that hasn’t always mattered.

Coaching matters. So far Husker coaches can't get rid of the mistakes. Hope it turns the corner this week.

Subtle semantics but would characterize it more as a can’t lose rather than must win

In year 3 - wins against the likes of NW, Purdue, Iowa etc etc shouldn’t be noteworthy

these are should win games

This team and program needs desperately (yes I said it) to play a complete and generally error free game. They have not seemed to be able to do that and it is well beyond time.

This game is critically important to the overall health of this program.

Ramsey must be licking his chops based on his past experience and what he sees on film. This is as close to a must win as we have seen for a while.

“Must” win seems kind of strong, but man, it could be a problem if we don’t.

Like pretty much every game against everyone not names Ohio State, Nebraska would win this game if they merely kept the mistakes to fewer than NW. Don’t kill drives with penalties. Don’t let NW drives continue with penalties. Don’t lose the turnover battle.

Nebraska needs to start getting in the habit of playing sound football.

It's been so long since we played with any measure of consistency. In fact, I can't remember the last time mistakes weren't a major issue for the Huskers. At this point, it's embedded into the culture of the program. Of course this is a must win game, but it changes nothing if it falls apart the following week. For many years we have been waiting for the team to turn a corner. Someday that'll happen, I hope, I always hope.

We need to have someone be able to get over the top. If they play with 9 & 10 in the box we are in trouble. I also hate when we play running QB's. They always seem to eat us up. Ramsey isn't the best passer, but he may get us with his feet.

All NW has to do to beat us is consistently be in 3rd and long. We give those up like 90% of the time.

This year I am more concerned on the coaches abilities to make quick decisions and make a game plan that attacks the opponents weaknesses. They need to stop coaching with "Fear of Failure". If the coaches make the improvement the players will follow suit. Hard to judge quality of player when they are not allowed to play to win.

They should have a fear of failure. If you fail (fumble) you are out of the game. Martinez probably wouldn’t fumble so much if he had a fear of being benched. Players should have this fear every day from the coaches “you are replaceable”.

The coaches are coaching with fear and are tight... This goes down the line. I am willing to sacrifice another year of low expectations if improvement is being made. No improvement this year, and the coaches are still dribbling down their pants game day, HIT THE ROAD JACK!!! I can't remember the last time I watched a complete football game. Their decision making is severely lacking.

We saw improvement against OSU, but that may not be the best barometer. We hung for almost a half until they woke up. The lines and linebackers looked better. The receivers and secondary are a question mark. TEs are the same or better. QB? It's anyone's guess although I am on record as being down on 2AMs ability to execute the throwing game to a high enough level or even make good (quick) decisions in the RPO.

I am starting to worry about identity on the offense. It feels like Frost is resorting to gadgetry because fundamental football was not going to work against the bucknuts. I'm hoping we get into a rhythm. We are as good or better than anyone left on the schedule from a talent aspect.

I voted yes, but the question is pretty vague. Must win to get a bowl game. (everyone is eligible)

must win to save Frosts Job. laughable
Must win to have a shot at a B10 title. probably
Must win to boost confidence in fan base and players. debatable
must win because everyone just really really wants it. YES

I have very high hopes for this game, and think we are gonna do well.

Northwestern and Purdue are in the driver’s at 2-0. This is definitely a must win!

I expect a dogfight this weekend which is pretty much how every game has been with Northwestern since we’ve joined the BIG-10.

Chances they beat us: 20%
Chances we beat them: 65%
Chances they beat themselves: 5%
Chances we beat ourselves: 50%

Point of Parliamentary Procedure:

Northwestern University is NU

The University of Nebraska = UN. It’s not Nebraska University - how in the world can people think NU is Nebraska?

let's consult the first lines of each school's fight song, shall we?

Nebraska:
There is no place like Nebraska,
Dear old Nebraska U.

Northwestern:
Go! U Northwestern!

I rest my case.

This is my concern, no Identity in offense, haphazard defense calls or read and react. They need to take the game to the opponent. Know who you are and play to that. Stop guessing. Get beat playing to your identity, not by wing and a prayer

Now’s the time to win. If we don’t win/improve this year, then I’m afraid it isn’t going to happen. We have the offensive line to do it, now we just need to take the next step.

we have become the mommies boy in junior high. the bullies seek us out once in a while and hammer us. the bullies weaker, scrownier friends jump in and beat us up. nothing will change until we stop crying and cowering. everyone in the big 10 thinks they can whip our ***.

Unlike 99% of this board, I usually enjoy your posts as thought provoking. This isn't one of those times. You make good points but lately you're just being dismissed as a troll. Posts like this are why.

certainly a compelling argument .... however after much deliberation, in a conference that values education over athletics -how the universities are referenced on their respective diplomas, the way their grad schools and individual college programs are referred to carried more weight than something as trivial as a fight song

other factors that were considered and went in the favor of NU (northwestern)

year the university was founded
Academic standing of the university
Charter member of the Big Ten

In the end NU is awarded to Northwestern University
