You got to play and beat everyone in your path if you want to win #9 and go 40-0. Like Cal said anyone can have that perfect night while you have the worst night ever and lose. With so many players available whoever isn't on will be sitting during the game so even if we lose, I don't think this team fears anyone.

ND hit 10 three's against Virginia (the only comparable defensive team to UK) and scored 56 points...at home. 10/24 from three (so they put up a ton), and still did not even crack 60.

So even if they hit a lot of three's that does not mean they are going to score a ton if they play a great defensive team. People yapping about how they did this and that to UNC and Duke...that's cute, but neither of those teams plays a lick of defense. The problem for UL and UVA is neither has a particularly good offense...all the ACC teams are pretty flawed on one end of the floor or the other, while being fairly strong on the other.

That's why I had to LMAO when Jay Williams predicted FOUR ACC teams in the Elite 8. Oh poor Jay, bless his heart.

They just beat Duke and UNC in a 24 hour period. Shew my god you guys kill me. This is a one and done formatted tournament. Its not the best of 5 or 7. One bad night to someone's good night and the party is over. We should be very concerned with every team we play from here on out.
You know what Duke and UNC have in common with each other and with ND? They can't guard anybody either. If we somehow meet them in the Elite 8 - Great. Let's get it.

There's not a team in the country that scares me. Are there other good teams? Of course. Are some capable of beating us? Sure.

If we play our game, no one can beat us. No matter who we play or how well they play. There's not another team in the nation that can say the same.

This is the team that concerns me most in our bracket. Granted, I haven't seen them play a whole lot, but they seemed fairly athletic. We all know that it is going to take a team going off from 3 to have a chance against us, and this is a team that can do it. The fact that they've also got positive momentum makes them potentially a difficult opponent. But I'm not scared...the only team that beats Kentucky is Kentucky...

Because they shredded UNC's Charmin-soft defense? Come on. Jerai Grant is seriously good, but so was K.T. Harrell and Michael Qualls. Look what UK did to them this week.

I usually say all teams that we play are tough before we play them, but Notre Dame does not scare me at all.

A Kentucky fan shouldn't go through life scared of playing Notre Dame in basketball. I bet your team is not intimidated by the Irish.

The darn Duke fan has more confidence in UK against ND than some UK fans. That is pretty sad.

Guard play is the key to success in the NCAA tournament. History has proven this. Notre Dame has great guard play, as do we. The difference will be how we can defend their guards with our size (if we play them).

Since they lost 2 out of 3 to the Irish, he should've explained "because UK is obviously way, way, way better than Duke."

Notre Dame will be a classic example of a team who (much like many SEC teams of the past) reached their goal by winning their conference tourney, only to collapse in the big dance.

I've seen it with South Carolina, Vandy and a few others.

Notre Dame will take a step back this week...

From an older (57) guy that has been disappointed more often than not 53 tournaments out of 57, I think we should be concerned about every opponent, if not scared. Some posters are awfully optimistic...makes me wonder if they're not of a much younger set.

I'm shaking in my boots until the morning AFTER the final game. S#!+ happens in the ncaa tournament.

A lot of truth, there.

For those that saw UK suffer when an invisible lid was placed over their basket in 1984 vs. Georgetown, and almost didn't make a shot the whole 2nd half... and then saw that powerful Georgetown team lose the very next year to Villanova, who almost didn't miss a shot the whole 2nd half...

...just about anything can happen in the NCAA Tournament.

I watched the Irish win their way through the ACC tournament this week in person. They play tremendous team ball and they have GREAT court awareness. They drive the ball and dish for open shots. They work hard to get their teammates open, and they rebound better than they should. They also have great ball handling and excellent free throw shooting.

UK by 15.

I don't underestimate Notre Dame at all.

I just have a feeling that they'll have a little bit of a let down after winning the ACC tournament.

I wonder if most in here even watch other teams. I doubt it. You probably saw them 1 or 2 games all year.

ND is good and had a great year. They just beat Duke and UNC in back to back games. Pretty darn good accomplishment. Can they beat us? Sure. So can a few others if we are not engaged.

But I have said before, that if UK is fully engaged on defense, they cannot be beat by anyone this year. I think these kids know exactly what they want and what is at stake. If UK is at it's best and ND is at it's best...UK by 12-15 easily.

This may have been said on this thread, but more than their outside shooting what concerns you about Notre Dame is how fast they are on the perimeter. Grant and Jackson driving the ball would be a concern as we've shown that we are susceptible at times to dribble penetration.

But I think if that game happens (and I think it will), Notre Dame's lack of depth particularly in the post would really hurt them. They also are not a good defensive team and will give you the shots you want, and we've shown against those kinds of teams this year that we excel.

I worry more about grinding teams that don't turn the ball over and are staunch with possessions. I think we'll win but if we draw Cincinnati in the second round that game could be a lot closer than many think.

Last year, teams that had quick guards hurt us a lot more than they have this year.

Our depth at guard as well as our versatility at guard puts a lot of pressure on opposing teams.

At the end of the day, if we can't deal with Notre Dame, then we ain't gonna win it all this year anyways.

Not 1 team in the entire tournament scares me. Can we be beaten? Absolutely but I like our chances against any team you can name. Will I be biting my nails with some games? Yeah...probably but no team makes me quake.

Usually, only idiots are never scared. However, since neither you nor Md fit that description I'll just say I am scared as ache eee double L every time we play anyone this time of year and that goes double under these circumstances. I watched that Texas Western debacle a few years back.

It is really goofy that Kansas with 8 losses got a #2 seed while Notre Dame with 5 losses and a conference tournament title got a #3. Kansas got overrated there and Notre Dame got screwed. Notre Dame is one of the better teams in the field, peaking at the right time. Notre Dame will be a nightmare for almost anyone that draws them. But Kentucky is a nightmare matchup for Notre Dame. The Irish don't have enough baseline players to compete with us. We would eat them alive on the boards.

Here are the heights and minutes-per-game of Notre Dame's first ten guys:

Grant 6'5" (36.6 minutes per game)
Connaughton 6'5" (35.0 mpg)
Jackson 6'1" (34.1 mgp)
Vasturia 6'5" (31.8 mpg)
Auguste 6'10" (23.8 mpg)
Beacham 6'8" (16.0 mpg)
Colson 6'5" (12.3 mpg)
Geben 6'9" (8.8 mgp)
Torres 6'7" (7.2 mpg)
Burgett 6'9" (7.0 mpg)

As you can see, out of their first seven, they have one guy who's 6'10" and one guy who's 6'8", and the rest are all 6'5" except for one guy who is 6'1".

And, although their 8, 9, and 10 guys are 6'9", 6'7" and 6'9", they all played fewer than 9 minutes per game over the season. And, of course, that includes garbage time in blow-outs.

I just don't think Notre Dame has near enough size to hang with the 'Cats. I realize that they're good shooters, etc., but if anybody makes fifteen 3-pointers against us, etc., it's going to give us trouble -- whether that's Notre Dame, Kansas, Maryland, or Manhattan or Hampton.

Notre Dame -- just like everybody else in our region -- will have to have a more-than-unprecedented shooting game to even stay close to the 'Cats.

Just MHO, of course.

Go 'Cats ! ! !

Just MHO, of course.
