Northwestern is good and Indiana is not Bobby Knight's Indiana
I felt like they were very good last year but didnt have that final player to close out games. It seems like they now have that player.
It was more that they had a lot of young players who just didn’t know how to close games out. I am not surprised at all that things are coming together for them now that their guys are a year older.
I also thought Indiana was overrated this year. Trace Jackson-Davis is very good, but they still are lacking backcourt scorers and shooters.

Sometimes fans just have to realize that while RU went through the fire and is now reaping the benefits of playing their freshman and underclassmen in 2017 and 2018, so did Northwestern.
I think the transfer from William and Mary is more of a player that hunts down his own shots and Boo Buie is just a shot maker....but the actual core recruiting "wins", have been very slow to develop and are now as juniors starting to emerge.
I know recruiting wins for Indiana are always going to be what their fans want to see, but Indiana is in a position that you really don't want to be in.....you recruit solid players and find a 1 or 2 and done player (Romeo Langford and now Trace Jackson-Davis) and you never reap the benefits of your "best " players getting to their junior and senior seasons. It's very hard to win with underclassmen as your best players that leave early and then they leave gaping holes in your production. Ideally you have to replace those kids with other elite kids but very few schools can do that AND generate the veterans needed to win.
Northwestern is going to the NCAAS, barring a rash of injuries....
Indiana may have an Archie Miller issue.

Yea maybe Maryland too. Honestly it will be interesting to see how the committee picks teams this year with so many conference games . I think it’s going to be a lot of the eye test and maybe less on records
I don't know who isn't but the way Northwestern is playing just looks like a NCAA team.
Can they beat out Indiana, Minnesota, Maryland, Penn State and Nebraska?? Indiana has more front end talent but last night's game could have gotten away from NW like the Pitt game a couple of weeks ago.
The only question is can NW defend well enough over 20 B1G games. Getting the 1st 2 games is a huge success.
They have 2 games vs the following teams, who should all be in the Top 7.
2 vs Wisconsin
2 vs Iowa
2 vs Illinois
2 vs Rutgers
2 vs Ohio State
2 vs Indiana
The key was finding 1 of these home and home matchup as a road win, that could be a sweep of Indiana, which they got last night.
Highly unlikely they get another road win against the Top 7 or 8 team, but the last 4 games of the season are Wisconsin at home, at Minnesota, Maryland and Nebraska at home. Mix a couple of other wins along the way and they can get to 9-11 in the B1G, which puts them right there.
Appreciate the love on this thread, but NU is a LONG way from getting to the tourney, giving the strength of the league and the lack of OOC victories. It will be very possible to have a good team this year and still rack up 10-11 losses in the B1G. And who knows at this point what havoc Covid will wreak?

If you watch on the initial drive , the northwestern defender pushes Washington in the back with a forearms soon as he takes off in the air causing him to fade to the right
Officiating in the second half didn't look bad to me. OSU was in the bonus with about 10 minutes to play.
NW goes to Iowa next before Iowa comes to the RAC on Saturday........will Iowa start to look ahead to playing at RU....?? Hard to overlook a team at 3-0 in the B1G, but NW has some momentum heading to Iowa City. Hawkeyes off a tough loss probably gets refocused and gets a home win and gives Wildcats their 1st conference loss.
Iowa just lost to Minnesota. Very doubtful they ll be looking ahead to a future game. You can’t in this conference this year.
NW in the past 1-2 weeks has learned how to win. I said this is another post that NW will be the most improved team in the conference because they were in so many close games last year and could not close out the games. With losing practically no one and the players more experienced, it appeared to only be a matter of time. Good for them but bad for the conference. Just another dogfight opponent in a conference full of them.
Yeah, right now, the only teams that APPEAR headed for the bottom four right now are Nebraska and Penn State, with Maryland and (in my humble opinion) Indiana most likely to end up there. But as PSU showed two years ago when they started 0-8 and then went on a tear, you never really know in this conference.
Northwestern showing how well coached teams can win games vs teams that appear better. OSU had a 7 point lead with 6 to go and played like garbage down the stretch. A chance to win off the rebound and their star Liddell came up small getting the ball taken away from them
Its not in RU's interest for Northwestern to be good too so hopefully they start cooling off as more teams start taking them seriously
