You have to ask yourself this question: given that CVS and Walgreens have common staffing, training, and logistical systems across their interstate regions, and it is demonstrated that they have delivered in every state where they are located, except one, what factor could cause Walgreen/CVS failure in that one state only? What is it about that one state that is different? My guess would be that one state's governmental bureaucracy/ineptitude.

The nursing home vaccines are run by the Federal Govt who made the agreement with CVS and Walgreens.

In Mississippi, Walgreens and CVS are providing vaccination services through a federal partnership for many long-term care facilities, including nursing homes.

Blaming bureaucratic roadblocks, Bryan aired frustrations that large numbers of vaccine doses assigned to Walgreens and CVS have not been administered even as some long-term care facilities aren’t due for vaccine shots until February.

Bryan’s proposal would see certain facilities opt out of the federal program, allowing the state to then distribute vaccination directly to the facilities.
Bryan repeatedly emphasized that nursing homes themselves have staff qualified to inject the shots, even as Walgreens and CVS say they are struggling to bring on sufficient personnel.
“If we could get the vaccine delivered to any nursing home in the state, we could get people there to give the shots,” Bryan said.
Dobbs and Reeves on Tuesday both said various proposals are under consideration to accelerate vaccinations within long-term care facilities like nursing homes.
“A lot of it is just red tape stuff that we have to work around,” Dobbs said.

Many facilities are holding it for patients only. Just sitting in the cooler til it's needed. It's the opposite of what the state said they were doing.

According to this the state had about 265,000 doses distributed. 85,000 have been given, leaving 180,000. I would guess they basically opened it up to over half the state with "underlying conditions"

What's crazy is this shows only 24,000 people 75+ being vaccinated. There's nearly 200,000 people in that category. Seems really dumb to open it up to over a million people when you've vaccinated less than 15% of the most vulnerable age group.

Well, MS is full of far right conspiracy theorists that believe they're being chipped or their nuts will fall off if they get the vaccine. Black folks remember the past vaccine experiments for them. So many people in MS turning it down that we'll be last in immunity like we are everything else.

If you can get your Flu shot at Walgreens, CVS or Hottie Nurse Practitioner, why can’t you get your Covid Vaccine there?

I've wondered that too. I guess they just don't have the staffing to handle the numbers. I personally would pay pretty serious money to be able to get it at a pharmacy in a reasonable time frame.

They haven’t run out per se, but all available doses have been claimed by individuals scheduling appointments.

CVS admitted they don't have the staff. Yet we signed a contract with them. Brilliant business move.

Wow. That's amazing if it's from the MDH website because it's 1000% incorrect. We were only given 76K doses.

I think Mississippi is typically one of the best states as far as vaccination rates. Probably won't be on this with all the politicization of the covid related stuff, but I doubt we end up last either.

I'm thinking their federal contract is for nursing homes and other long term care facilities, where they really do have to go to the sites to administer the vaccine because of the impracticalities of moving the residents to the pharmacy. When I have gotten a flu shot at CVS or Walgreens, I think it was the pharmacist that gave it to me, so they wouldn't be able to just leave to go administer vaccines. Even if it was actually a tech, they'd still have to be able to staff up to send the tech to the nursing home. Not sure how hard it would be to find people with those qualificiations but assume it's not a walk off the street and get trained in a day job.

That's because we're one of only 3 or 4 states who don't allow exemption from school immunization requirements for religious reasons or personal beliefs. Anti-vax groups lobby the state government hard every year to change this.

For non-mandatory vaccines, or at least for the HPV vaccine, we assume our usual place towards to bottom

For what it's worth, UMMC did do a very carefully worded press release late yesterday in response to this fiasco. It's clear they're laying the blame elsewhere (not with MDH). They made a point to be very clear that they found about the change after the fact and their system was never meant to handle that kind of internet traffic- they were caught off guard. They also pointed out the fact that MDH had a plan and that plan was significantly changed and they stressed that it happened in the last 24 hours. Again, they're carefully illustrating that someone else is responsible for the mess.
EXACTLY. It ain't rocket science to read between the lines of that release.

MSDH bureaucrats cannot win a politics game. This is now a politics game. The blame will always rest with the nameless bureaucrats. Tate got tons of calls asking why this is moving so slowly. His people advised him to force the issue knowing that MSDH would get blamed. In the short term, it will work with his core constituency. Long term, it remains to be seen. He has roughly 2 years for the unwashed voters to forget his part in this easily-predictable government-run failure.
THIS.

No it is correct. 85k people have already either been vaccinated with the first shot or fully vaccinated. The State is not out of vaccines, and appointments are not just being cancelled. The available supply is just already spoken for via scheduled appointments. There is a waiting list you can get on to get an appointment as people cancel their appointments or no show.

Now I'm reading that the Biden administration is planning on going "all in" and instead of holding X amount of vaccine back for second doses using all current supplies to get as many people vaccinated for the first time ASAP. They supposedly feel like production is ramping up enough that the manufacturers can produce enough doses, quickly enough that any delays in taking a second dose will not be harmful . Now if they can get somebody to give the damn shots

I had shots from the gun in basic training. They're far from painless - I'd much rather have a needle used by someone who knows what they're doing.

What was it Harris said when asked if she was going to take the vaccine? She said no, she'd not take the Trump vaccine. Then she was first in line. Conspiracy "theories" (a huge misuse of the word) aren't restricted to conservatives - just nutjobs.

It is with great shame that I say, Hob Bryan is my state senator. How he ever got elected is beyond me. He is a joke of a Senator. He was a joke of an attorney. If he’s involved, we are doomed.

That's a risky strategy. But it might be the right one. Supposedly, even the 1 dose gives you some level of protection and a delay of a week or two in getting the 2nd dose wouldn't be a big deal. Of course the downside is, you may be vaccinating a lot of people once and not really protecting anyone.

Hob is literally a certified genius, he is brilliant, and he knows the Mississippi code verbatim line by line. .....and that's about it. If you want to see where you need to stand on ANY issue, you look at where he is, and take the opposite stand.

Profound? Sure. Personal opinion? 100%. I worked with the NG response to this whole ordeal, so I’m sure I’ve only seen one side from one angle. The other guys on here calling bureaucracy and political games are valid as well. Overall...it’s a big CF; inside and out.

This is accurate. CVS and Walgreens are contracting with long term care facilities for phases 1a/1b.

I had to set up our community's partnership with Walgreens and we were vaccinated yesterday.

Dobbs was doing his job. That was the plan we had in place that somebody did away with with very little notice.

Dobbs probably should have been removed a while ago for performance. We probably erred on opening it up too much too fast, but do you really have faith either in a plan administered by dobbs or heavily influenced by Dobbs? I would fully expect us to have expiring vaccines if nobody interfered with him.

Got a friend that nevers gets the flu shot. Says he rarely ever gets the flu so why take it even when I point out to him senior's immune system goes south as they age. He is already waffling on the idea of taking the cv19 vaccine. I don't know why he feels bullet proof as his sister and BIL got it a month ago. I think some people are just afraid of needles.
