Question about these redshirts- As’s, Blackshear etc...if they are on scholarship and on the roster, does the new rule say a coach can’t just tell them to get out there and play?

With all the amazing facilities and everything the university has to offer, if the reason pushing him away is that he doesn’t get to have his play routes designed by Chris Ash, maybe we don’t need him after all lol

not playing in a bowl game is a world of difference from not playing for the season while you collect your scholarship.
Ash may have recruited him but he was a Rutgers guy. They don't make their commitment videos and say "I'm going to Ash" they say "I'm going to Rutgers".
And yea, I get that Ash leaving put a bump in his road but that's life. There are bumps in the road, you learn to live with it and move on. You don't just quit on your team.
First, and most importantly, @RUScrew85 needs to take a drive to PSU and hide that amulet on their property. We are in our ****** position solely because of him retaining possession of that evil demon, and there is only one proper thing to do with it. Turning it upside down only made matters worse.

Second, I agree with Blackshear no longer being captain, but it has to be asked, why is he the only one who has to say "that's life," and not, for example, his teammates? Or the fans? Too much unevenly applied reasoning and standards going on regarding his decision. It's as if no extenuating circumstance could ever warrant him taking his own future into consideration. As for scholarships, they get five years to play four, so him having to pay is not only not the way it works, it would set another bad precedent for a program that can no longer afford to continue setting bad precedents. Leave it to Rutgers to be an absolute dumpster fire--I mean, epic levels of train-wreckiness--in the year that our first game 150 years ago is being nationally recognized.

Third, @RUScrew85 now has his plans set for the upcoming weekend. We don't need pictures, just his solemn oath that the goods have been delivered.

As an RU fan I have no ill will towards Blackshear or Sitkowski.

As long as they have their lockers cleaned out by 1600 hrs tomorrow. Ha!

As for the rest, team sports require sacrifice of individual achievements for the good of the team. (That's why some guys agree to block so others can score). Quit on the team? That's the player's decision, sure. Support a person who quit on his teammates(and the team's supporters)? Adios. No free college, no access to the facilities. No fan support.

That's not fair?

Blackshear should have just said he thinks he has a concussion and faked injury and then all you idiots would be recommending red shirting him for the rest of the season.

Yeah everyone is pissed he didn’t give Nunz time but how much notice did he get on his coach getting canned? The kid busted his butt for that team and now is weighing his options. This is the world we live in. But he could have faked injury, or has a “personal issue” or whatever. He did what someone advised him to do and hopefully we get him back because he’s a good player. If not I think Young can fill the void in a year or two.

Read the tea leaves. Blackshear will not play in a game for RU again.

And why should he take the position of another player on the scout team since he refuses to play in a game?

The kid and his handlers are gaming RU FB. Shame on us if we let it happen.

Team sports not only requires players, it also requires an environment in which the players can perform. They too have a reasonable expectation of consistency and stability from management, especially given the limited time they've got in college and, for the talented few, the pros. Merely because they have teammates doesn't negate the administration's responsibility to the structure of the team and to the players. Saying "he's part of a team" is one of those catch-all mantras that simply says too much because it can be applied no matter the circumstances. The rules of redshirting changed the dynamic for players, as did the transfer portal. Under normal circumstances Blackshear would have been in contact with his coaches about the possibility of redshirting, and in fact he may have been with Ash and McNulty who, as we know, were canned. They were fired just a few days earlier, and the new ones didn't have normal office hours due to the exigent circumstances within the football program. I (obviously) hold no ill-will toward Blackshear. I'm glad he returned to our shitshow after last year's 1-11 season, and hope he stays with us next year. If not, I wish him well wherever he goes.

Apparently expecting football players on scholarship to actually go out and play football is frowned upon now.

We are not the only school. Even Bama had to deal with this where a player just stop showing up for practice. That player was from NJ as well, there was a thread about here.

So did Jackson, another Philly kid
To me different with Jackson. He spent his 4 years at RU and became a grad transfer. Ash had time to try to recruit a replacement and whiffed terribly. Leaving a day before game 5 of the season. That is jumping the ship

Totally with you on all this.

As to the offending amulet, I'll take your word about it. @RUScrew85 seems unwilling to comply. But he likes to nap, so perhaps a little mission impossible is in order.

Insofar as Blacksheer, et. al., it would make no sense at all for Hobbs to have trapped current players into not red-shirting or doing what's in their own best interests. The football program has an obligation to the players as much as the players have an obligation to the team.

And, with respect to Campanile who I'm sure will do as good a job as possible for a guy who was coaching in high school 19 months ago, when the players find themselves without a qualified head coach or OC mid season, then the program hasn't met it's obligations to the players.

An argument can be made Hobbs should've made the decision after last season or at the end of this season. That's an entirely different argument. Of course, some players would likely have transferred then as well.

But if we were going to fire the coaches mid-season, doing it so the players have some options for their futures is the ethical and correct way to do it. And I don't think players should be blamed for considering their futures - it's pretty damn sure the fans aren't going to look after them.

Sure he can look after his own interests above the team's. Problem for many of us is we're Rutgers Football fans. Not specifically Blacksheer fans. He looks after his own interests and in doing so injures the team I root for and lets down his teammates.

OK fine. Good luck in the future. Lots of kids have transferred and we've all said "good luck".

But expecting to stay with the team while possibly being a bad influence or bad example to the rest of the players is crazy. The RS players should be separated. I can't use the weight room because I'm not on the team. I had to pay to go to class because I wasn't on the team. Raheem quit the team. He should face the same restrictions. Same for the Polish (Interception) Rifle.

I get it. I understand that the fan's perspective is what it is and why.

I just draw the line at taking away a player's scholarship when the football program didn't live up to it's end of the bargain. Putting aside the right or wrong of it, it's bad for RU to do that in this situation. It would come back to bite us on the *** in recruiting.

I can also understand the perspective of players with potential to play in the NFL (and their parents). To play out this now pointless season harms their chances of reaching that potential. And it's through no fault of their own, or of any of their teammates, that they find themselves in this situation.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say players should always put team ahead of self. But this is not a normal circumstance. Firing the HC and the OC 4 games into the season?

Ask him how much of the out of state tuition rate he is on the hook for...and the room and board..top it all off with whatever stipend he receives.
Still not money in the pocket.

Unlike say Ash who is walking away with millions of dollars.

But teams RS players all the time, with the intention of getting them into the weight room to bulk up.

If they are redshirting for the purpose of having an extra year to play for the new coach, then I'm ok with it.

If they are redshirting so that they can have an extra year to play for a new team - then eff em.

I’ve come to accept the team is in shambles. What difference does it make if we lose a few good players here and there?

Can we really lose any more games without them than we would if they wanted to play?

Cut em loose.

I think all of us have to ask ourselves why this bothers us so much. You can say its the principle but would you really be that upset if the 2nd string long snapper did what Blackshear is doing?

Or is it because him not being on the field takes away from our hope of RU being a better team? In other words we are OK with Blackshear being unhappy so we can all be a bit happier.

I do believe that in most cases, players should stay with the team they committed to but the short term situation at RU is really bad. When players were bolting out of PSU after the Sandusky stuff and NCAA penalties, I don't think I thought to call them quitters.

one of the worst posts I’ve seen here in some time. The current RU situation has anything to do with the Sandusky situation?

Stay with the team as long as the team is winning? Then bail when things go bad?

There should be a minimal IQ FB test for posters on this board imo.
