He and Russo were teammates. He verbaled to TU until Michigan St got involved. Then verbaled to the Spartans. Kid then wanted to visit RU and that’s when Dantonio and staff said F U and pulled his scholarship offer.

The most important thing to remember is that he is a RB, we would lose all the same games if he played or not. Lets not act like he is the 2nd coming of Ray Rice or anything.

While it sucks that a captain decided to quit, it wasn't the 1st time, the other captain and a much better player is now starting at OSU.

To me, this tells me that among the long list of things he was bad at, Ash was also terrible at picking captains.

Jackson stayed at RU for 4 years and left AFTER the season. Blackshear is taking someone else’s scholarship by not playing and standing on the sidelines with EIGHT games left. He also screwed Nunzio by telling him ONE day before the Maryland game of his decision. While losing Jackson hurt, Ash had time (and failed) to replace him before the start of the season. Nunzio had zero time to change game plans.

No one is saying it was not a d!ck move. But, it still would have not change the win lost record if he played out the rest of the season is the main point I am driving at.

Correct, it doesn't make a difference for this season. The only way it makes a difference for next season is if his ability to redshirt this year impacted his decision to transfer. So if you believe that without a redshirt this year, he would not transfer, then having him on the team next year under a new coach potentially results in more wins next year.

He clearly couldn't care less who the new HC is going to be. So that would have not mattered, he could have just gone to FCS next year. He does not want to be here without Ash, period.

Players have refused to play in bowl games. He doesn't want to be here he was a Ash guy.

not playing in a bowl game is a world of difference from not playing for the season while you collect your scholarship.
Ash may have recruited him but he was a Rutgers guy. They don't make their commitment videos and say "I'm going to Ash" they say "I'm going to Rutgers".
And yea, I get that Ash leaving put a bump in his road but that's life. There are bumps in the road, you learn to live with it and move on. You don't just quit on your team.

People seem to be clinging to the long past and the notion that our team is full of student athletes. It’s time to face facts - we are in the B1G and from now on a lot of our players will be here only because they have aspirations to play in the NFL and will do whatever they think it takes to get there.

If he is transferring regardless, then it made no difference when Ash was fired, or if he redshirts this year or not.

I guess we should never leave our jobs too.

If either of them are bailing, tell them they have two days to come up with the room, board, and tuition money. If they don’t, they have 24 hours to get their garbage out of the dorm. Anything that is still there will be donated to Salvation Army it Goodwill.A regular student who gets an academic scholarship would lose it if they were getting an F in classes and the only difference here is they gave themselves an F.

When that “kid” is a captain on the team who walked out on his team and new coach day before a game yeah ....
Bird, your the coach right now, you kick him off the team if there is a chance he wants to stay but preserve a year of eligibility?
My point is nobody here knows whats going on inside of the Hale center.

It is a completely different story if he is saying he's taking the redshirt because this season is a lost cause, and he wants to stay at Rutgers and have 2 years of eligibility under the new coach.

Until, and if, he enters the transfer portal (and actually transfers), that is always a possibility.

Bye. To turn this around, the next coach needs guys who are all in. Not me first guys looking out for their “brand”.
I understand that as RU fans we feel burned on this one. And it's really not a good look. At all.

But let's just say Temple was 2-11 least year, were 1-4 this year, and losing miserably, and they fire their coach. But they have a star RB from NJ, and he says, I'm going to RS and look to transfer. We would totally understand why he needs to do what is best for himself and we'd be salivating at the prospects of him coming to RU.

So I get it, it looks like we are getting burned here, and if he leaves I don't think people will be shedding any tears(I'm still hoping a new coach talks him into staying, at which point the RS is helpful) but we shouldn't be too hard on him either. If the tables were turned we'd be all about welcoming him to the banks.

When you leave a job most of the time you give at least two weeks notice. Not a day. Huge difference
Would the 2 weeks have mattered though? Really? This season is toast.

And given Ash was fired less then a week prior, the 2 weeks is not really a consideration. Could he have said this on Monday? Sure. Are we going to hate Blackshear because he waited 4 days to make a humungous life choice? I'm not.

That's not true. He was a RB primarily in name only. The stats below include MD game which he didn't play but you can see what his value was. He was playing the slot and was CLEARLY our #1 pass catcher at 29 (4 games) vs. Melton 15 (5 games). And for QB's who couldn't throw long (whether arm or time to throw) having that short quick option was important.
Isaih had 75 rushes, Langan had 26 (1 game!) and Blackshear only 29. So he wasn't exactly getting pounded back there either. Maybe with this new offense he figured he was going to get the ball even less? I don't have a clue but I just know he wasn't just an RB on this team but something they needed more. The leading pass catcher BY FAR.

Rushing gp-gs att gain loss net avg td lg avg/g

I continue to wonder how many crapping on Hobbs now were the same ones screaming Ash needed to be fired immediately after Iowa.

As to Blackshear at least Matt Millen is getting his wish (seeing him play elsewhere).

What matters it what it looks like to his teammates. Leaders don’t pull that garbage

Him being a captain is what makes it look so bad. I mean it would look bad anyways, but that really compounds it.

A catch 22?

But my guess is the team mates accept his decision much more then some of the fans.

So he stays on the sidelines as a captain and watches his “teammates” as they get the sh*t kicked out of them week after week. Definitely compounds it

Who cares. I mean seriously, I could count on 1/2 a hand how many players I would be a little upset with if they transferred. Let them all go to schools like Villanova where they belong

I am sure that when these kids we recruited, they were not told that they would have the pleasure to jion a program that was going to be run into the dirt with zero hope to see it turn around during their stay on the banks. They all came here to be a part of that group that turns it around. Came for the right intention that we all speak of and 2/3/4 years later, they have given their all but Rutgers has not given their all. They get 4 years of their life to do something that has been a lifelong dream. If that was your window and you had decided to forego elsewhere and be a part of building a program but now a good portion of a dream has been broken, and now, there is no hope in your final year that you are going to see anything worthwhile from your efforts, why would you stay? I do hope they stick and finish up here but have no problem if they decide to move on.
Only the DRIVER of the Bus can turn it around. ALL others are merely passengers.Albeit ready to help change a tire that may go flat.
