It needed to happen. Starkville Ford was no longer competitive. We just bought our new vehicle from Cannon and I’ve got no regrets. They drove the vehicle from Vicksburg to Starkville for us to test drive over a long weekend. Drove it back from Calhoun City to Starkville to do paperwork since my wife was working that day. Also gave me $2000 more for my trade than anybody else and beat everybody else’s interest rate by 0.5%. I don’t care if I just donated a Charger to the next Ole Miss wide receiver. I’ll buy my next vehicle from Cannon as well.

Can't tell if serious. I would imagine he willingly does what's best for his family as his first option.

You willingly support om businesses? Not a dog in my book
I support ALL Mississippi businesses (assuming they do good work/service). Honestly at the end of the day what's best for Mississippi is what's best for MSU and often times that involves Ole Miss too.

Best get over it. Easy for you come talk that OM/MSU stuff as you live in Spring Hill, TN.

There are plenty of car dealers you can buy from and get a good deal from. I wouldn't not buy from a business just because it's owned by a Mississippi fan, but I would never buy a car from a dealer who actively funnels money to buy football players for them.

I’m a dog in my book and that’s the only book I really give a 17 about. I lived in Oxford for three years. I suppose according to you I should have driven an hour and a half back to Starkville for groceries, meals, and any other retail needs? It’s easy to be Mr MSU super fan on the internet. There’s a real world out here where folks coexist with people whom have different views and life experiences.

Premier Ford in Columbus is the place to go. If the longtime GM Chris is still there, he is as good a bulldog that ever walked the earth and the owner, Bill Russell, well he won't lie to you.

Cannon Motors is part of "the network" and has been caught red handed actively cheating for Ole Miss athletics. I think I'd ride a horse before doing business with Cannon, lol. To each his own I suppose

Easy big guy. There's a difference between supporting local merchants, and supporting one that is actively participating in paying for recruits at Ole Miss. Huge difference! Did you by any chance take the deal Canon offered you back to other dealers to see if they could beat or at least match it?

Premier/Bill Russell Ford sales have fallen way off since Chris left, and expect them to drop even further now that he's back in the GTR

Yeah, I do business with ON folks all the time. They do business with me. Cannon is a bit different though. Weren't they named specifically in the NCAA stuff?

Slightly off topic but why do car ads have to be so damn stupid? There's no other businesses that make bigger fools of themselves than car dealers. That idiot that "won't lie to you" in Columbus, "Call Arnold NOW" in Columbus, and all of those loud *** fast talking liers on radio ads just seem to dumb down their image which is already bad enough as it is. I don't car shop often but when I do I avoid those places like the plague.

Duh...that’s called being a responsible buyer. Nobody touched em. I’ve known the sales guy for a long time. Personal relationships always help. I enjoy MSU sports, but MSU athletics do not define my existence. I’ll do business with Cannon as long as they continue to offer exceptional service and value. I’ll also continue to do business with Gateway Tire despite their Ole Miss ties.

Car dealers have similar margins. Most of the big guys can offer similar deals. Many will sell below their cost in some cases due to continued cost to keep a car on their lot, manufacturer incentives, etc. So we may be talking about a difference of a couple hundred $ or less. Doubt it is a matter of, "putting family first" any more than deciding to buy beer, bourbon, tickets to games, etc would be.

I haven't stopped eating at the 5 guys burgers nearby that has the front end manager from OM, but I am certainly not running in there advertising my maroon-ness and offering an opportunity for extra protein on my burger either.

Gateway does as much to help MSU as they do Ole Miss. Most people

don't realize it because it's not all sports related. Mr. Dunlap specifically gives major money towards the forestry dept as well as other environmental programs at State. I encourage all to do business with them. Honestly, it's best to separate sports loyalties from personal business to begin with. If your life is on the line are you going to refuse medical care because the doctor went to Ole Miss? If a company treats me right, I don't care who they support. Green is really the only color that matters to me as a consumer.

I don't not eat at McDonald's just because it's an Ole Miss grad taking my order. I'm just proud that they are becoming a productive and useful member of society.

Speaking of that...I didn't break it until it was announced ...we went that night and I was surprised at how happy it would make me to realize I hadn't missed anything on their menu. Had a low quality steak and a heavily salted onion.

There is no way on god’s green earth a MSU alum owned business that was named in NCAA documentation as helping recruiting would get any support in Oxford. No chance.

Good to know. I could care less about Cannon one way or another. Chris is one of the best people I have ever known and I can't recommend highly enough.

If I didn't have to connect in Atlanta from Dallas to get to GTR, I would fly in and buy my next F150 from Cannon in Starkville and drive back to Dallas.**

And here we go......

I knew a chick on the Memphis maroon club or whatever those nerds call themselves.... that has a State degree and was alll Memphis blue back during our game v Memphis in the 2008 NCAAs or whenever.

I know a guy that has a State degree and is the biggest Alabama fan you will find.

That’s what I did. Who buys new vehicles?

Its often better value to buy a pickup new than slightly used. I bought a truck new a few years ago for about $10k under sticker (Memorial Day weekend incentives. No haggling internet price) After a recent appraisal by the insurance company, it was worth $3500 less than what I paid for it 44,000 miles ago. When vehicles hold value well (like pickup trucks,) it's better sense to buy new if you can get good incentives. That whole lose 20% of the value when you drive off the lot applies to the sticker price not the purchase price. After browsing Auto trader, my numbers are pretty accurate.

After factoring in maintenance costs and lower interest rates, I would argue it's a better value to buy trucks and Jeeps new as long as you catch a sale.

I would absolutely avoid a Cannon dealership bc of the Ole Miss junk, if at all possible.
All car dealers are terrible anyway.
