I can't believe I didn't realize until tonight that Hockenson is from the same small town in Iowa (pop. 4,000) where I was born and all my kin on one side lived.Fant is a great athlete, but his blocking is suspect, and if your going to be a TE at Iowa you'd better be able to block. This is why Hockenson went higher because he is a complete TE kind of in the mold of George Kittle who is with the 49ers now. Fant did not play as many snaps because Hock and the other TE they had were much better blockers. For me, I would have kept Fant on the field and just split him out and let his 4.5 speed take a LB out of the middle when running the ball. You can't teach 4.5 speed to most TE's. LOL
On the other hand, if you were enamored with a running back who was thought to be a solid inside runner although maybe a bit undersized and the big knock was a perceived lack of top end speed I say Justin Jackson would have been a better pick last year.Coach Lou is happy that his former star pupil, RB David Montgomery, is now a Chicago Bear. Great pick!

Totally agree. The challenge is knowing when the player you are trading to get is transformational enough over the player you could otherwise have gotten/will play in the position to merit the cost. Aaron Donald is obviously that kind of transformational difference maker. The jury is still out on Mitch. And I don't think most talent evaluators have the kind of certainty about their convictions in projecting talent that we might hope.
There have been so many articles panning the Daniel Jones pick that I thought I’d simply share one of the more fun ones. The video of the live reaction of all the Giants fans is particularly telling - they’re not always right of course but a whole stadium booing their new franchise QB. The best case for Jones is to pull a Rodgers and sit behind Manning for another season or two and do his best to adapt, although he’s not nearly as talented as Rodgers.Well I have to disagree pretty much across the board. Jones single handedly beat us two years in a row surrounded by a team with otherwise mediocre talent. He is accurate and mobile, the two most important traits for a QB in modern day football. Same goes for Trubisky, who by the way made a pro bowl and only showed a fraction of the talent that will be on full display next year. The draft that supposedly would get Ryan Pace fired has already generated three bowlers while the guy who supposedly “fleeced” Pace, John Lynch, has already released one of his two first round picks from that year, is reportedly looking to trade the other and pretty much has only 1 NFL player to show for the haul of picks he got from the Bears.
As a casual Bears fan I hope you’re right, and he really showed poise and leadership on that final drive to put the Bears in position to win the playoff game.2006, you'll find yourself quite pleased with Trubisky this fall. Write that down - and you don't need to use pencil.![]()
Zach Allen, former NU DE commit who decommitted and went to BC, goes before any NU player. Frustrating on multiple levels...
Regarding Allen: he has a very similar skill set to Gaz, and his decommitment opened up the scholarship for Hartage. It sucks to lose a NFL defensive lineman, but I’ve been very happy with Gaz and Hartage the past few seasons. No thanks, but I'd like us to stop losing recruiting battles to them for top talent. Two players drafted in the first 65 picks... two guys who would have helped us in our talent gap vs the Buckeyes in Indy.

But you may need "white out". Does that still exist?2006, you'll find yourself quite pleased with Trubisky this fall. Write that down - and you don't need to use pencil.![]()
I think he’s actually a WR, but he looked like more of a hybrid in his highlights. The 49ers should borrow the superback role to best accommodate him.At #67, the Niners took Jalen Hurd. He's a TE coming out of Baylor, but was a RB at Tennessee last bowl meeting, one that NU fans would like to forget. Good move by him to become a TE, cause he'd never make it at RB in the pros. Looks ready.
But after the first round, everybody is guessing...
This would be a good place and make sense.I have a feeling that Thorson ends up getting drafted by the Packers.
Some giant Danish guy who played OG at Arkansas goes to Pats. That’s quite a journey.
Coach Big A coached him up very well.Recruited out of IMG Academy to Arkansas by Coach Anderson.
Patriots have 2 more picks left in the 4th round. Will they pluck Thorson?
That's fine. It would have been really, really hard to root for the Pats. No Pats and no Steelers, please.Ugh...they took Stidham. Not good for Clayton.
I’m really surprised he didn’t go 3rd or 4th. The QB class this year seems a bit weak.Hope Clsyton goes in the fifth round he might be our only player drafted
Yes but the new facilities will make a difference over time.Man... 7 Buckeyes drafted in first 4 rounds and we have 0 so far. As great as our program is going, the talent gap is still HUGE.

That Buffalo guy is a physical specimen, and I’m surprised he wasn’t drafted already due to all the hype (some mocks had him as a first or second rounder).ESPN shows the Buffalo kid still ahead of Thor
That was pretty obvious in Indy...As great as our program is going, the talent gap is still HUGE.
NFL Network has Thorson higher, I guess it depends on what channel you watch.ESPN shows the Buffalo kid still ahead of Thor
Cowboys passed.NFL network said the Lions and Cowboys have showed interest in Thorson 5th rd.
Indy was a combination of talent and depth gap, we had so many guys out especially on D. Same with ND and Michigan games. We need both more top end talent and more depth of at least the quality of our current top end. Otherwise we were unable to close the gap against the very top tier. That was pretty obvious in Indy...
Bummer for him, but are you really that surprised? I like him and think he's a winner. From my hometown, if from the wrong side of the tracks. But he's thrown a lot of picks and decision-making has been open to question. Certainly good enough to develop into a player in the league, but as an early round pick? I wasn't holding my breath. I thought JJTBC was a better midround risk last year.4 from Wisky. Shows how much we get from "lesser" talent. Bummer for Clayton...6th round?

No I saw the pick. Late 4th or early 5th seems about right - certainly more understandable than late 2nd.You hit post a second too soon!
