As much as I like playing in Madison Square Garden, I would much rather play in the Bahamas, Hawaii, Bermuda, Las Vegas or any of the big holiday tournaments to make it a nice trip.

We rarely get picked for any of them and it really pisses me off. I remember going to Texas El Paso, St. Louis and NC State for exempt tourneys and they were at least fun to go to even if the locations were not ideal. I couldn't go the one time we were invited to a minor Las Vegas tourney.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Currently, USC coached by Johns Hopkins grad Andy Enfield of FGCU Dunk City notoriety, at one time rumored to be a candidate for the Maryland opening. Did Maryland hire someone?

I wonder if he prefers warm and sunny locales...

It’s not a matter of getting invited, it’s a matter of wanting to do it.

Rutgers played USC in the Garden once before, in December 1974 when USC was ranked #6.
I was there. Rutgers lost that game, but ended up making the NCAA for the first time that season with a dramatic OT win over St Johns - back at the Garden.
Still a great venue to watch Rutgers Basketball.

In those days I was at every Rutgers game at the Garden. Loved the train rides and the games.

It was understandable when we were bad, not it's more that our coach isn't a big advocate of a tough OOC schedule.

There’s nothing like a trip to MSG to see Rutgers basketball. Just something magic about that whole place, the area, the pregame, the arena it’s like a dream. Love playing games there any chance we get and when we pack the place it’s extra special. Feel the total opposite about football in Giants or Yankee stadium but sign me up for an MSG RU bball night, especially between thanksgiving and New Years, any time

Based on conversations with him, I’d be shocked if he left SC.

Ridiculous renovation recently (including the corridors being widened which was desperately needed); finished maybe 5-years ago?
You don’t think MSG could get a new MSG facility before Rutgers finishes anything at all? Relax NUTS having some fun here.

I think you took my comments wrong. Completely "relaxed" was just giving out some 411 Bob. All good buddy!

Always great to have a game at MSG!
Hopefully a B1G game in which we are the road team.
I’d rather play at the RAC

RU should schedule one premier game at the garden each year.... yes, it seems like a sacrifice not being at the RAC, but it showcases our program so well

IF we play a decent team we get a huge and loud RU turnout, that has to be impressive to any casual observer, or any college basketball fan

with the USC game, we might not have been able to schedule them if the game was not at the garden, they might not have been interested in a home and home....

we play at MSG, we make a lot of noise in the city that day....the bars are filled with RU fans, and a lot of excitement

I keep thinking back to the wrestling/hoops day in 2020- what a great day! The result sucked, but you always see how insane our fanbase can be when we have a big event at MSG.

I remember going by train for a RU vs SHU game a long time ago, cars totally packed, SRO and some poor guy who was getting off at intermediate stop trying to get out from middle of car

Yes if it’s an “away” game for us it’s an even bigger bonus, but really not concerned if giving up a RAC game to play there - the notoriety is totally worth it, and when we travel well, like someone’s sign said during our run in the B1G tourney a few years ago, “MSG IS THE RAC”

Rutgers also faced USC the year before (Dec1973) in a Holiday tournament out west. USC was ranked 14th.
I was 11, and listened on a transistor radio in bed. Sellers hit this crazy long shot at the buzzer, but Rutgers still lost by 1.
These were the early signs, along with the upset at Hawaii in the following season’s opener, that Rutgers was going to be really good..

Agree. And we should be in one of the annual MSG holiday tournaments. The Jimmy V one is too perfect . Somone is sleeping behind the wheel if they’re not pushing for RU to be the annual staple in that one
