I was born in ottumwa and was a hawk fan when isu fans were nowhere to be found. I had one classmate {twins actually}. Who wore isu stuff. That’s it. Beth is not good at football stuff.I’m born and raised in Iowa. Not a fan of either team cause the state I had no choice I was born in shouldn’t dictate what team I’m a fan of. Should be the team you enjoy watching the most and what the history and traditions and style/philosophy the team has made their DNA in. Iowa and ISU didn’t have it for me but I don’t want them to lose unless they’re playing the team I play for. I like to check out a lot of teams boards in the BIG and see how every team has their fanatics that see that I’m not the only one who overreacts in the moment sometimes. I’ve noticed Iowa fans when it comes to after Kirk and present day every candidate that is brought up on this board are the hires that make you feel the most comfortable and safe in the moment. Not many suggesting a fresh start. I think I’m more confident in Beth at making the right hire for the next head coach if it was outside the program than most Hawk fans are. Not every program will turn to Nebby, you have a AD that seems way more competent than the last one so have faith. You can start fresh and still keep your identity if the coach is great. You’ll just build and improve on it.
I actually think that a vast majority of fans agree with this. It's just that nobody really knows who the good candidates are across the country. Iowa fans know who the former players are who might or might not be coaches, so when threads like this are started, people spit-ball.JFC what is it with Iowa fans only wanting former players and coaches under the kirk Ferentz coaching tree? Look at all the top teams in college football the last ten years and this year’s playoff teams. How many of those teams only hire former players to coach and only promote from within? Not every coaching position needs to be replaced with someone that only has Ferentz/Frye ties. Look at Lester, hired from outside. There are 100’s of teams out there with great coaches just wanting chances to promote and chances are one of them is a better coach than a former player or a former Ferentz/Frye assistant.
I posted a list of the top 50 special teams coaches three posts ago. Pleanty of talent to choose from. I'm sure there are coaches lining up. Kirk may stay inside, who knows.I actually think that a vast majority of fans agree with this. It's just that nobody really knows who the good candidates are across the country. Fact is that KF's coaching tree makes Charlie Brown's Christmas tree look lush, so there aren't a whole lot of experienced and successful coaches out there that could come back home. Betts and Woods are the exceptions, although there are multiple guys on the current staff who could have bright futures in coaching.
And could be unemployed tomorrow.Mike Oxlong. ST coordinator for the Ravens. Has Iowa ties and is buddies with KF.
Hey, KF stole Gift from Heaven from Wisconsin, who brought us Deacon.Kirk never, ever hires outside. If he ever does, it’s a former player (can we even consider this outside?)
I never heard this rumor, and although I don't doubt that BG had at least some loose guidelines for KF in regards to his new OC, I highly doubt that she said "no" to him bringing in a former NFL head coach. Besides, Philbin coached at Iowa for a total of 4 years in the middle of his 40-year coaching career; I wouldn't have considered him an "internal hire."The only outside hire I’m aware of is Lester. And wasn’t the rumor there that he was going to hire Philbin, but Goetz told him no and made him hire from outside?

You are cluelessIf we are discussing KF's successor, it won't be his call. The decision will be made by Beth and I am sure she has a list of candidates, some without an Iowa background.
I stand by my post. Kirk Ferentz's suggestions will certainly be welcome to the AD, but the call for next head coach will be Beth's. She may convene one of those @$%&! committees, but hopefully that is for input only. You are clueless
Not to mention, supposedly (according to this message board) Philbin was offered but said he wasn't interested.Hey, KF stole Gift from Heaven from Wisconsin, who brought us Deacon.

Not a chance with Phil Mianus running things. And could be unemployed tomorrow.
Philbin and Kirk know each other quite well, so both Kirk and Joe would have known long ago whether Joe or Kirk had any interest. There was never a damn offer. That is ludicrous. Not to mention, supposedly (according to this message board) Philbin was offered but said he wasn't interested.
