The only outside hire I’m aware of is Lester. And wasn’t the rumor there that he was going to hire Philbin, but Goetz told him no and made him hire from outside?

Iowa and ISU didn’t have it for me but I don’t want them to lose unless they’re playing the team I play for. I like to check out a lot of teams boards in the BIG and see how every team has their fanatics that see that I’m not the only one who overreacts in the moment sometimes. I’ve noticed Iowa fans when it comes to after Kirk and present day every candidate that is brought up on this board are the hires that make you feel the most comfortable and safe in the moment. Not many suggesting a fresh start. I think I’m more confident in Beth at making the right hire for the next head coach if it was outside the program than most Hawk fans are. Not every program will turn to Nebby, you have a AD that seems way more competent than the last one so have faith. You can start fresh and still keep your identity if the coach is great. You’ll just build and improve on it.

SO, you just said "Kirk never, EVER hires outside", and then said, "aware of Lester". So your statement is false. Not to mention most all of his initial hires were outside the Iowa family and many have stayed. And just for record Philben would have been a solid and VERY qualified selection.

Would Philbin have been qualified? Sure. But the fact that qualified was the most positive adjective you could think to use really speaks for itself.

My comment isn’t an Anti-internal hire comment. I was responding to someone asking why wouldn’t we look outside the program. Most of them have done well. But you will never grow and get better as a program if you hire internally 100% of the time. After 26 seasons, it’s pretty damn stale.

Seth Wallace was a grad assistant at Iowa lmao.

Phil Parker was an original hire as the DB coach in 1998. After Norm retired he was promoted internally. I really don’t think this helps the point you’re trying to make.

I think the new special teams coach should be someone Kirk knows will use a lot of what L Woods was doing, period. and maybe throw in a bit of his own ideas like for fakes, etc

What about Chandler the Liberty coach as TE coach. I like Hodge to LBers and Wallace as Asst. Head Coach and Special Teams.

Two sons were very good and deserved the scholly, the third(Steve) was never on a scholly. As far as hiring coaches KF has a very good record there
