My guess is that K probably has a handle on it. For one, we have no idea whether some of the names listed even have any kind of interest in coaching.

I'd be surprised if it's not a former player who has played in the last decade or less. But again, I was surprised Jeff left to go to Pittsburgh....so it's certainly possible K does something that would be surprising to many of us.

Any of the guys who have been through the program obviously have been exposed to great coaching and how to run a program. If the played in the NBA that that is also great exposure. That is the structure, the framework. The ABCs of coaching. But, coaching is teaching, communicating, and motivating. Those are performing arts that are very distinct from playing ability. That is why many of the best coaches werent the best plaers. They had to excell in other areas to be successful in the game.

What a sweet deal if your a former Duke player. Play for K, maybe get a shot at the NBA, then come back and coach for K, then get your own gig. That would be a selling point for me if I were a 4 star recruit.

JWill was a great player, and he was intelligent, but he says some of the stupidest things... Greenberg promoted JWILL so he could get rid of him...

Like saying the star players should boycott the NCAA tournament... Saying the $$ for the NCAA has went way up but the students still get the same thing...

Yeah, instead of the player getting a $40,000 value per year to go to Duke and all the meals, workout facilities, trainers, medical staff... Now the value is well over $100,000... so it HAS increased. A LOT!
I am not saying these kids shouldn't get some sort of stipend... They already are getting a heck of a lot of benefits... Where I left college 22 plus years ago with 40k in student loans. If they get to the league they are being advertised or promoted by the school and ESPN and if they don't they receive one heckuva education and a tremendous opportunity going out into the real world with a Duke degree. Does the school benefit from having a player like MBThere are a lot of CEO's and presidents of companies who would love to hire player X because he was a 4 year player under a great leader in Coach K. For someone who is intelligent, that comes across as he is not in touch with reality. He would not be a good hire in any way. He would not be willing to accept the demotion and the severe pay decrease, much less put in the hard work at would be expected of him.

Laettner??? Really. Again great player, not a coach.

Grant Hill would be awesome, but he has a good gig working part of the year and still being able to spend a lot of free time with his family, which I think he feels is very important. If they would offer him the throne when K leaves... then he would have to reconsider...

It will be someone Coach K trusts, will work hard and can teach the game and the game of life. Not someone so full of themselves like JWill or Laettner. Laettner..."Coach I can't make it today, I have a haircut appointment."

My guess is Nolan Smith is elevated from special assistant to assistant coach. I think Tyler Thornton would be an outstanding option to replace Nolan.

Would love to get one of our great wing or low post guys to come in. Nate James is doing a pretty good job with our bigs, and between Nolan and Scheyer, feel as though we have the gaurd play covered. Don’t know if Laettner would take the role but he would be great. Plus, the opposing fans would be yelling at him the whole time that we could go a couple years without having one of our guys getting constantly trashed.

JWill is making way to much money at ESPN. Think he would be an amazing recruiter but an average coach.

We don’t **** with 4* recruits very often that end up in the NBA. Almost all of our players drafted in the NBA in the last 10 years are 5* recruits or pretty darn close.

You don't need to be a forward or center to teach/coach big guys. Who is the former world class big guy that gets Carolinas mediocre bigs to rebound their tails off and hit 10 ft jumpers consistemtly?

I'm happy C Well is coming back, he was my first thought when Capel was announced he was leaving. He had one of my favorite senior years. He came out of nowhere and had a huge year.
