Truly a disgrace.

I'm about 95% sure that the Pope voted for Marco Rubio in the 2016 GOP primary (he definitely voted in that primary, that's established by IL voter rolls).

I don't have the hubris to opine on what God thinks about (the Pope should, in Catholic Church doctrine he is basically the envoy of God to the church membership), but I would not expect that a just God would be excited about warmaking in his name.

I'm a supporter of the Iran conflict, for reasons definitely not related to God or religion. I would be cautious of arguing that God supports the conflict, however.

The only nuance I'll add is the "American" Pope's remarks were for Palm Sunday and part of an annual message of peace. He follows the US closely and was refering to Pete Hegseth praying for the American troops and the Iran war was heating up. Interesting that someone on X clipped one sentence of his comments from March and posts them on Sept 19. So I looked: the author is a Dem who served in the Obama and Biden white house. Are there elections coming up?

Thanks for the history lesson on who the Pope is and what church he leads. He ignored a lot of war waging in the Old Testament where His people’s prayers were answered. The walls of Jericho fell after the Israelites marched around it for 7 days. They didn’t do anything other than march and religious leaders blew their horns. One of many. If God was a “just” God, he probably wasn’t incredibly excited about reigning fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah either, but he did it anyway. He turned Lot’s wife into a pillar of salt just for looking back at Sodom and Gomorrah when it was getting destroyed. We all have free will. As for who he votes for there is no record of him voting in the General in 2016 or 2020. 2012 and 2024, but I recall that you wouldn’t like his oldest sibling because he’s MAGA.

As for the Iran conflict, the price of gas right now is worth it, if the Iranian regime falls. Frankly, I would have been more brutal than Trump. In my view he’s been soft and dumb thinking he could negotiate with those religious extremists nutbags.

I thought the distinction between Christianity and Judaism was the New Testament, but perhaps I missed that.

I believe there is “just war” under Catholic theology, it’s just that Iran isn’t applicable. And let’s be real, it’s a war of choice. Doesn’t mean the choice is wrong, but to the Pope employing Catholic doctrine to wars of choice is not going to fly.

Not sure why I need to post this again, but the Pope voted in the 2016 GOP primary. I’d bet a fair bit he voted for Rubio. Just an educated guess. It sure wasn’t Trump, Kasich seems too squishy on abortion for a Catholic leader, so that leaves Cruz and Rubio. I’d put my $$$ that it was Rubio.
