For those that went to law school, but were not informed on how it works when you leave the White House:

Yes. When a U.S. president leaves office, he becomes a private citizen with the same fundamental constitutional rights as any other American.Core status
  • The Constitution does not grant former presidents any ongoing official powers or a special legal class. Once the term ends (or upon resignation/removal), the individual returns to private life.
  • They enjoy the full Bill of Rights protections (free speech, due process, equal protection, right to bear arms, etc.) on the same basis as every other citizen.
Important nuances
  • Criminal and civil liability: A former president can be prosecuted or sued for private/unofficial conduct, just like anyone else. For actions taken while in office, the Supreme Court (in Trump v. United States, 2024) held there is absolute immunity for core constitutional powers, presumptive immunity for other official acts, and no immunity for unofficial acts.
  • Statutory benefits (not extra rights): Under the Former Presidents Act and related laws, former presidents receive a lifetime pension (tied to Cabinet secretary pay), funded office space and staff, travel allowances, and generally lifetime Secret Service protection (unless declined). These are privileges provided by Congress, not constitutional entitlements that change their citizen status.
  • They remain subject to the same laws on classified information, taxes, and ordinary criminal statutes.
In short, a former president is a private citizen with ordinary constitutional rights, plus certain government-provided benefits and limited residual immunity tied only to official acts performed during the presidency.

I had dinner with one last night. He recently increased his heard size. He seemed very happy with the situation.
It’s almost as if we have posters here who have accepted the narratives fed to them by media. The same media that credible investigative reporters have left due to management’s desire to contain the truth for ideology/politics.

Sqiush as predicted complained again! How do you provide relief to the consumer AND grow the herd size simultaneously? To allow ranchers to actually keep some of their cattle with an eye to the future AND not increase prices supply must be maintained. Hence, 3 month exemptions which will no doubt be extended (perhaps at reduced quantities) to grow the US herd. Eventually, this external supply will be phased out allowing the US rancher to sell more beef and hence have MORE profit.

If it was long term, Squish could cry all day and be correct. But, now Squish has told us he wants higher beef prices since external supply should not be increased as US ranchers withhold cattle from the market to grow the herd.

Squish would whine about that too. Well done Squish - always whining

False consensus. He’s pretty unique. I’ve talked to several in recent months that are shrinking their herd.

You guys have advocated for lowering the amount of water for farmers and ranchers.

The beef cattle herd is the smallest it’s been in recent history.

You guys think importing more beef will help American farmers. Ya, I’m the one that accepts narratives. You guys are ignoring the actual numbers.
