I never knew that that font was Chicago Bears. Thanks for that info
It’s not. Someone said that once, and everyone chirps it now. While the 6 is similar, it is the same font as the “Rutgers” on the chest. The new numbers we have were designed by Nike along with the new Knight head. I always thought we should go back to the same font as the block R, ie 2007-2011 font. Why have a mix of brands. Should have a solid brand, if you don’t have that and you play bad you really have nothing.

I’ve convinced myself that we lost to Eastern Michigan because their uni’s looked tough and ours looks sissy red next to them. Silly, but that was my feeling from the seats.
The current red is too bright, need to darken/harden up the uni’s somehow.

We loss to Eastern Michigan was because we had the wrong QB starting.
Bolin only completing 40% of his passes and throwing 2 Interceptions against a MAC team in HPSS sealed our fate. Had Gio started this was a win.

This is what Ash said last year:

"Because of our agreement with adidas (starting July 1), there's not really anything special about our uniforms for the 2017 season,'' Ash said. "It's a generic-style adidas uniform because it takes time to have a design. So 2018 we will have some more specifically designed uniforms for our program. (In 2017), it's slightly different because it's a different (company).

"But red tops, white pants. They look classy and sharp, but it's not like they're the custom-made uniforms that we'll have for 2018 that will have a little more flash to it.''

Next week:

Uniforms: Rutgers’ updated uniforms will be revealed sometime next week. I’m not quite sure yet how the school and Adidas plan to roll them out, but they’re coming. My understanding is the uniforms will not look drastically different from what the Scarlet Knights wore last season, but there will be some tweaks.

Locker room: Ash mentioned construction on a new locker room during his press conference in Chicago. The plan is to start work after the season. Rutgers is currently crossing the T’s and dotting the lowercase J’s, with details and plans to follow. The new locker room will likely be a focus of fundraising efforts this fall.

Also, omission of the 'RUTGERS' across the chest, and I think I see a stripe on the pants.

Ugh! Can we go back to Nike?

Drab, boring, uninspiring. Numbers are awful.

Red and White could look so sharp and we get this. SMH

Lousy numbers, no RUTGERS.
No stripes on helmet.
Why the infatuation with weird non block numbers?

I dig the ones with the stripes on the shoulders. Nike supposedly invented that font. We just kept it. For branding purposes, you see it across all sports.

I know right, Nike was the best, we should like like this, instead of a regular ole foot-ball team:

I don't disagree. I was just answering your question. We are half way there. Branding is super important across the whole school/department.

Adidas is pretty damn good at it. Had some exposure to Kylie Jenner's new line coming out, at least the on the business side. It's amazing the level of detail that Adidas does, all the way down to word for word telling her what and when to put on social media. Hopefully they are providing us with that level of support.

They aren't afraid to push the envelope on unis. We are probably resisting in football. I know in lax they want us to wear some super form sitting kits. The squad isn't too into it though.

Bottom line, at least we are getting a lot of attention, the likes of which Nike never, ever provided.

Took away the “Rutgers” across the front, great. Got rid of the black outline around the numbers, making them harder to read. Nice. Add Ohio State stripes, don’t put a stripe on the helmets, give us white helmets at home. Perfect.

The Scarlet Knights' home uniform should, by definition, be mostly scarlet, with white as the contrast color. I take it that these uniforms are the other way around??

Absolutely love them.

- Fonts? Meh don’t really care it’s fine.

- love the stripes pretty sure we had those when my dad was in school??

- no need for “Rutgers” on the home jersey IMHO. Still on the road jersey.

Bottom line: So long as we don’t look like ******* clowns anymore, like we did with those MAC/Power Ranger disasters a few years ago, I’m happy.

In one of the recruits pictures during the BBQ there were new looking uniforms on the manaquins in the Hale Center. The away jersey looked like the NY Giants away jersey with the red stripes on the sleeves. The homes were just a reverse of the colors. There were stripes on the pants as well.

Also there was no more RUTGERS across the chest. Instead just a block R.

Wow. It’s so original, it’s shocking. With the Pitino payments over, Adidas has finally found 20 minutes to redesign the Rutgers uniforms.

Here they are

Awesome, thank you very much for posting. I like 'em. Looks like stripes on shoulders and pants, and just the R instead of Rutgers on the chest. Also, is the away helmet the Knight logo and not the block R? Kind of hard to tell.

Fun Fact about White Helmets.

When Rutgers went to Leather Helmets, they painted them white. they did have a red version for a season, but basically Rutgers had white helmets for about a full decade.

It wasn't until the hard helmets were introduced that we switched to red helmets. We had red helmets ever since.

In Modern times we also had black helmets, we brought back white helmets for some games and of course the chrome helmets.

Adidas even kept the Nike font. So much for Adidas giving so much more consideration to RU and concern about the brand. SMH

If you look very, very closely, you can see stripes on the sleeve.
I can’t imagine the time and effort that went into that design.
You have to be shitten me if the RU brainstrust wants this number font to be our brand

I am not a fan of those numbers.

The 4s remind me of a crooked pitchfork or trident, something Aquaman or Poseidon would carry.

To be honest they don't look a whole lot different different than the current ones besides a few tweaks. So unless you hate the current ones, I can't see why anyone would hate these.

I also understand that some people here will always hate anything that doesn't look 100% like the 2006 uniforms.

It is what it is.

Don't think the human players in that photo are wearing the same thing as the dummies in the back... so the 4 is probably last years uni.

I agree the typeface is a bit odd.. (font is a specific size and style of a typeface.. for example.. Arial is a typeface, Arial Bold 14 is a font). I think the "weight" is a bit off.. too thin and tall, too close together.

Jerseys are now built to be very form-fitting and stretchy.. mostly to help prevent players from grabbing a handhold of jersey to tackle or control a player... so the number will always be stretched oddly. While they could stretch the jersey onto a dummy with shoulder pads and then apply the stencil.. there are so many variations of players upper bodies and shoulder pad and flak vest selection that no two would be alike. So they will never be perfect.

Some many months ago someone complained here about what the guys look like wearing jerseys to their public service events.. because they wore game jerseys designed for pads.. the suggestion was to have jerseys made just for that purpose.. no pads public service events. Good suggestion... they could look better for the brand.

There is no hate here.

The harking back and hate for anything not for 2006 has its base in the block numbers. That looked the part, this version with regard to the numbers does not.

I love block numbers, but find me college football team with a new design with block numbers. I can't think of any. The only schools that still use them tend to have old fashion style uniforms.

I prefer less is more uniforms, which is what we had since 2001 (besides the infamous Flood era Power Rangers ones).

They're not the same thing, the ones in the middle are last year's and the ones in the back are something we haven't seen before. They could be this year's uniform or they could be nothing. However, the font is the same on both.

All they would have to do is give the players the same jerseys that are made for retail, just with their numbers on them.

Agree.

And to me (aside from the numbers) this update does that.

I feel the same way about these as I do the head coach... not bad, could be great, but anything is f$&king better than what we had during Flood’s era.
