Very good, if we can add Thomas and a few of the other very good O-linemen in state this year, and combine it with what we got last year, it seems as though our o-line problems could be of the past. I swear O-linemen are like pitchers in baseball. You can never have enough of them, and if you have good ones, you will have a chance in every game you play.
I am raising a OLT and he is waaay smarter than I ever thought of being at 13.
Then again, I played TE so that may have something to do with it.

Is that stars mean nothing to Hevesy. He Wasn't ready to take Gaines last year when we could have had him at any time. He wasn't sold on his footwork and declined his commit. Hevesy knows what he wants so if he is ready to take it, then I take that as a good sign. With this staff I worry less and less about recruiting rankings.
If he knew **** we wouldn't be questioning the o line in year 4. I hope he turns out great though.
Because he took a lt that got 2 qbs murdered in the 08 egg bowl and turned him into a first rounder...
Our OL issues are still 75% Croom... Or more specifically, the fact that we got Tobias Smith in 08 and Gabe Jackson in 09 as our ONLY OL contributors for 2 ENTIRE classes. The only blame Mullen/Hevesy get are the fact that we failed to successfully recruit the Juco ranks in 10 and 11.
Blame them next year... It'll finally be "their" OL then...

We are worried about our lineman now with Mullen/Hevesy and they are at worst seniors or redshirt juniors. Keep fooling yourself.
Of those seniors and redshirt juniors did Mullen/Hevesy recruit?
Obviously, you are the idiot. We've got ONE senior(hurt), ONE rs junior, and 3 rs sophs projected to start on the OL.
Tell me about how "I'm the idiot fooling myself"... Or are you just opening your mouth to insert your foot? Yeah I thought so...

I dont think anybody is as worried about the OL as we were last year. Anybody with sense knows you dont want to start an OL player before his 3rd season unless he is just a certified NFL type player.
We're going to start at least 2 Sophomores, 2 juniors, and 1 Sr- what are you bitching about?
Sherrod, F Cox, J Banks, KJ Wright, etc. are all credits to Croom then if it's his OL this year.
You can't have it both ways.
You can't have it both ways.
is leaving the cupboard bare? No.. Our best OL this year will be players that committed to Croom.
We've been through this before. You use to say that no kids played in the first 3 years. Then I pointed out that underclassmen played all over the SEC on the OL last year, and now you've hedged your bet to 'unless they're NFL talent'. Glad to see you're coming around.
Hevesy blows at recruiting. We all know it. He had 2 years to land someone to replace Sherrod and didn't do it. He missed on Peacock and signed Joey f*cking Trapp. Joe Trap was 6'2 270 when we signed him. Think about that. Last year we missed on Glauser, Mark Beard, and Donald Hawkins at LT. WHEN YOU CAN'T LAND SOMEONE TO FILL A GAP, IT'S NOT THE COACH FROM 3 YEARS AGO FAULT.

Sherrod was bitchslapped by the Mississippi DL before Hevesy got here. Just like Dixon doesnt get drafted if Mullen doesnt show up- Sherrod is nowhere close to being a 1st rounder without Hevesy/Mullen/Balis
We have been thru this before, and I clearly showed that the best OL's in the SEC were made up of Jr's and Sr's. Auburn's OL was full of young guys- but they had veteran backs and QB. They finished 8th in the SEC in total O- we were 5th. It simply takes time for guys on the OL to play and play well unless they are bonified NFL talent.
I'm not sure why you still dont understand that.

Mullen is a great recruiter and developer of players for MSU, and I love it. I just think OL will be what cost us for a few years!!! ALSO coach I'm all in on recruiting if u can pm me. Thanks.
I'll just leave it at that. Of course they have territories, but Hevesy is responsible for the OL recruiting.
You're stance was that no one can contribute on the OL before their 3rd year. Now, you've backtracked to 'unless their an NFL talent. You've gotta have NFL talent to play in this league. And, no **** an OL full of JRs and SRs will be better. I've never dispute that - obviously.
But the idea that kids can't contribute until their 3rd year is bogus.
South Carolina had several younger guys start on their OL last year. Did that slow them down? No..
Did it take Gabe Jackson and Tobias Smith 3 years to become solid SEC starters? No..
Alabama had 3 guys Soph and younger rotating in on their OL last year.
Didn't Auburn's young OL finish ahead of us in the SEC standings last year?
Again, my stance is that it doesn't take 3 years for OL to contribute in this league if you find the right guys. Problem is, we haven't been able to find the right guys at some spots namely at OT. That's on Hevesy - not Croom.

that we're not going to get Alabama caliber o-line recruits. They get guys that are SEC ready from day one and are going to be three year guys and in the NFL.
We get guys that we are going to have to develop over the course of 4-5 years. That's why it's so important for us to have a coach like Dan and a S&C coach like Balis. That's what coach is saying- it's not often that we're going to get Alabama type talent o-linemen.
I know he's not an o-lineman, but for us to get a guy like Fletcher Cox is the exception, not the rule.
I think you would also agree that Croom couldn't recruit worth a darn and having a class with 1-2 o-linemen in it is unacceptable. Much like leaving us with Tyson Lee and Chris Relf at QB was also unacceptable.
You can fault Dan and Hevesy for not getting some JUCO's to bridge the gaps- and I don't know why they didn't- but aside from that, I think he has done a good job with the o-line. Damien Robinson was a four-five star guy, Desper was an Under Armour All-American, Day looked promising last year, and now we're in good shape with the top OT in the state in Jake Thomas, a guy from South Panola that has a ton of offers, Flowers looks pretty solid, and Cole Carter was probably the most athletic o-lineman in the state last year and was a guy that Ole Miss tried to flip. I think Justin Malone was a good find as well.
Heck, we could have an o-line with a guy from Madison Central, a guy from South Panola, and a guy from JA on it in three-four years. Those are places we've had some difficulty recruiting guys to say the least.

Rivals has a feature that shows you who each coach targeted and who they landed. There is a drop box for the year, so you can look at each recruiting year.

Ole Miss could really use Deon Mix and Kent Flowers, despite what Yancy is saying. Ole Miss needs a lot more than Daronte Bouldin and Davion Johnson on the OL this class. Mix is very talented but won't be game ready until his redshirt-sophomore year. He's got an excellent frame, but no technique whatsoever.

Our o-line talent is finally stockpiled...just young. We've redshirted EVERY OL since Mullen got here. We're not in the business of getting true "blue-chip" line talent like Alabama/LSU do from all over the country, so we've got to REALLY develop the talent we get. Almost all the OL that State/OM will get are going to be raw. I don't really see a situation where we ever have to play an OL before their redshirt soph year again under Mullen, unless they are just "that good."
Last year, we had to play a couple of guys one year too early(primarily Day and Clausell) because of starter injuries and the lack of OL depth that Croom left us in the 08 and 09 recruiting classes AND Mullen's inability at that time to evaluate our level of need and/or get us good JUCO talent. This year should be the transition year(a ton of rs sophs getting time). After this season, we should be pretty well set on OL talent/depth going forward(assuming 'crootin and player development doesn't drop off)
I'm one of the people that will tell you Banks and company are not Croom's recruits. 50% of them becoming top tier athletes for us is Croom falling *** backwards into getting guys that had talent to be interested in our school and 50% Mullen kicking their asses into shape when they got here.
Sherrod, KJ, Dixon, Chaney, and Charles Mitchell would all have been undrafted free agents had Croom stayed, and I don't think any but KJ would have made a final roster. There was a mindset change when Mullen came, and beyond that each player had a physical transformation under Balis.
In-game results are yet to be determined for Rick Ray, but he shows an identical example so far. Each player we have left has said he's endured the hardest workout he's had in his life since Ray took over. Furthermore, accountability is #1 for our players now, something that didn't exist under Croom or Stans.
Of course nothing will ever prove anything one way or another and this argument will never end, but realistically it's hard to imagine Croom ever turning things around and having Dan's success on or off the field. That goes for players too (on or off the field).
