2000-2011 was possibly the worst decade of all time combined for MSU and Ole Miss. I don't feel like putting in the effort to actually count but I would say you have 10 losing seasons, 3 winless conference seasons, losses to Tulane, Memphis, Maine, Jacksonville State, a bad La Tech team, and UAB, and a list, a very long list, of coaches that will go down in history as being some of the worst of all time... but Ole Miss and Mississippi State, again, having potentially the worst decade (barring the Manning *Memphis* years for Ole Miss and 2 mediocre bowls + the 2010 team for us) in memory, were both ranked in the BCS more times than USM. Ole Miss at one point, irrelevant as to how bad they actually were, was ranked #4 and MSU in 2010 finished in the top 15.
The recruiting class we have assembled might go down in history of being the best of all time in the state of Mississippi and we're making waves to scouts and people of importance with our swagger and NFL prospects coming out... USM finished the season beating everyone but UAB and Marshall. Which will an impartial college football fan from Mississippi remember in 3 years? Fletcher & co. or how USM ran the table on DII schools?
