Serious question: who do y'all want as AD? And who do you think we have a legitimate shot of getting?

Who follows real athletic administrators enough to know? We just need to get a professional AD, not an ex coach. Many years ago that worked. The business end has become so big and so complicated that hiring someone from outside the profession is just stupid.
We need a real athletic director. We need a professional, not a baseball coach. I'm sorry but the qualifications for the two are completely different now. I grew up in the era when the football coach was usually the AD. Times have changed. John Cohen was in no way qualified to do anything not related to baseball. He hired a great baseball coach. He has been a total failure at anything other than that.So you’re adamant that Cohen has to go, but you have no criteria for his replacement other than it must be a “professional AD”? Hysterical. Cohen is a professional AD. Regardless of his strengths / weaknesses coming into the job, he’s been running an SEC athletic department for 5 years.
Change just for the sake of change is not a good thing. Its especially not a good thing when you are talking about firing the guy that hired our only national championship coach in school history. So if you want a change, OK that’s fine. I don’t really agree with all the rhetoric there but its a fine opinion to have. But its clear you have an axe to grind when you’re saying that anyone who is a “professional AD” will do. It could be A LOT worse for us than Cohen. Schools with many more resources than MSU have had complete clown show situations with their athletic directors. Look at the John Currie - Philip Fulmer **** show at Tennessee. The revolving door at LSU. If you’re ousting a “made man” in the MSU family, you better have a lot better plan than just going to hire any slap dick AD from the Sun Belt if the fanbase and, more importantly, the boosters are to get behind it.
The only coach in Starkville who seems to know what he is doing is Lemonis. What are the chances we could get him to replace Cohen as AD?
Someone who is actually qualified to be an AD.

What you don't get is that he is an ex BASEBALL coach. He doesn't know a damn thing about anything but his own minor sport, college baseball. He has no training or experience as an athletic director. That is a highly specialized field these days. I'm in no way qualified but I'm as qualified as John Cohen to be athletic director, maybe more so. I own my own business. What you don’t get is that he isn’t a baseball coach anymore. He hasn’t been one for 5 years. I didn’t love that we hired him in the first place, but he’s been the guy for 5 years who has grown into the role of doing all the normal AD functions. Hiring and firing coaches is just one of those many things, and by the way it’s far from something in which he has full autonomy. He definitely doesn’t have that autonomy in football. Fundraising is the other big one. Has he done well there? Do you know? It would seem that you don’t, based on your “nobody really follows these administrators” comment.
If you fire him now and replace him with some dude who has been the AD at Akron or Western Kentucky or some ****, you are just getting a guy with the same experience level but at a lesser profile institution. And you’re also getting one without the baseball acumen that we have as a built in bonus, currently. That’s change for the sake of change, which is not a win for us. You need to address the specific shortcomings. And if your opinion is that he sucks because of Moorhead and Leach? Guess what chief….those decisions are largely coming from above his head in many instances. We don’t go spending $5 million a year on Leach after paying Moorhead’s buyout without serious blessings from the big money guys. Cohen is the face of these hires, but he’s far from the only one making them. An astonishing number of people don’t understand that.

Cohen isn’t going anywhere. He is firmly entrenched with the big money people and he takes very good care of them. He also has about 5 years’ experience as an AD, so the “he isn’t qualified to be an AD” is moot. AD’s are politicians, which is why they get the jobs in the first place-and JC is a very savvy politician. The only people who can fire him are the very people whose asses he kisses-and he is their “boy”. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong, I’m just saying that’s how it is. As far as his hiring of football coaches, baseball coaches, etc., he doesn’t hire a single one without the blessings of the money guys. Remember that, and you will have no questions. In other words, he would have to really piss off a few key people to get fired-and he is smart enough to know that.
Should have been Scott Wetherbee. But he left and went to Eastern Michigan
