Humor us. Let's say Kraft gets sacked. Who are the candidates YOU want to see who can bring in the MOST NIL money?

I know former athletes don't usually work out, but Lavar - he could at least beat some cash out of people. Or hey - Jessie Pegula? I mean, she's people who know people.....

Danny White, currently at UT (formerly UCF and Buffalo)

Resume would, IMO, be just about impossible to surpass.
Whether he would come to PSU? IDK

PSU should have looked to hire him 5-6 years ago. But that would have been too smart.

Or, one could hire a "Lavar Arrington" just to watch the **** show and abject destruction :)
One could sell tickets to the comedy/drama - but little else
(To be clear, all TIC of course)

If there's anyone formerly or currently at Alabama or Ohio State that would have the resume, that would be my first choice. Both schools have a long tradition of athletic success in the revenue sports (football obviously the main one, but Bama has been making a run in men's basketball, and OSU hasn't fared too badly - for Penn State, ANY success would be an upgrade). IMO that's what's really needed, a winning attitude in the administration, not just the teams/coaching.

A complete creep who will hire and fire like a gangsta and raise tons of money.
Marshall did that with hiring Christian Spears. He got his though after 2 yrs. and raise money? he said he did but alot of 'pledges' never got filled

We need to ask the basketball fans on here, they do this ceremony every 8 years and spend countless hours and posts putting every single candidate down. 😂

One of the first things I did when I joined the PSU BOT, was to ask for a breakdown of all the large $ employment contracts PSU had with employees that included provisions whereby PSU would be compelled to pay them if those employees were no longer working for PSU.
And raised the issue of the folly of entering into such contracts moving forward - particularly when they were "one-way" deals.
(Of course, Board leadership had an epileptic fit, and refused. Lighting there hair on fire and screaming that it was not relevant :) - while the rest of my colleagues - with few exceptions, grimaced and asked "What time is dinner?")

Since then, among other instances:
- PSU bonfired $9 million to CJF (that they didn't have to - but WTF, it is jut (someone else's) money)
- Entered into a contract w Nelli Bendapudi - who, based on the verifiable track record, is one of the least accomplished President's among major US universities - whereby she would be entitled to a perpetual 5 year salary buyout (at, of course, a grotesque rate of compensation)
- Entered into a contract w Kraft - again, verifiably one of the worst track records of any AD in the nation, both here and in his prior positions - whereby they would have to burn ANOTHER pile of $ on the bonfire to have him "not work here anymore".

And they wonder why they are heading into a fiscal abyss - that they KNOW is far worse than the one they claimed to have "fixed" - and our now burning another giant pile of $ on the bonfire to bring in "consultants" to - supposedly - do the job that all those absurdly highly-compensated chiefs were and are being paid to (not?) do.

Brilliant!

Key Factors in the Payment
    • Contract Offset Clauses: Franklin’s contract included offset language, meaning any salary he earned from a new coaching position would reduce what Penn State owed him over the remainder of the deal (which ran through 2031). [1, 2, 3, 4]
    • Accepting a New Job: After being fired in October 2025 following a 3–3 start, Franklin was hired as Virginia Tech's head coach in November 2025. [1, 2]
    • Lump-Sum vs. Offset Settlement: Rather than waiting out a drawn-out payment structure or relying purely on standard offset reductions, both sides agreed to a flat $9 million settlement, saving Penn State roughly $40 million while giving Franklin guaranteed upfront or structured funds to move on.

Funny thing is when people state things as fact and conviction, but really don't tell the whole story.

Yeah, an assist AD who has been at one of the top programs for awhile. They wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel, just copy it.

Again, I think Krafty the clown could not have handled the coaching search worse than he did and I wish we had somebody different at AD. But I don’t believe he’s looked at as an underperformer by the university. In fact, he is probably looked at as a hero compared to his predecessor, who was utterly awful. Stadium fundraising is ahead of schedule and the stadium itself is going to come in on time and potentially under budget. I can’t find it, but I read in the past that he may in fact receive a performance bonus for the stadium.

Wut??

Obviously "both sides agreed".

Franklin - and Sexton - laughed all the way to the bank.

PSU/Kraft bonfired another $9 Million. Why?
Because:
A) They are recidivist morons - the entire lot of them
B) It ain't "their money"
C) (Probably) Kraft was soiling his knickers at the thought of being on the "naughty list" of Jimmy Sexton - so why not?

That's the whole story, as relevant to the topic at hand LOL

Correct about one thing: PK gets an EXTRA million when the stadium is done.

Fair point, but no one is going to pay Kraft an offset!

We all want him gone but he will continue to make millions off the university and outside of these message board groups here and 247 his performance has far exceeded his predecessor in terms of what really matters to university leadership - fundraising. There’s no way the university gets rid of him over the next few years, even if God forbid football tanks.

My point was that they just didn't hand over 9 million to JF for the fun of it. Lawyers got involved and a settlement occurred which is pretty typical once a coach gets fired and they are landing on their feet elsewhere. As far as Kraft, I have zero clue what was written there nor do I care, but I just was correcting the inaccuracy of the JF statement.

YEP VERY LITTLE DOUBT ABOUT THAT

and outside of these message board groups here and 247 his performance has far exceeded his predecessor

WELL, YEP. 99% OF FOLKS - EVEN THOSE WHO CONSIDER THEMSELVES PSU FANS - HAVE NEAR ZERO KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAGNITUDE AND THE BREADTH OF KRAFT'S FAILURES AND LACK OF COMPETENCE. NO DOUBT.
IF THEY DID - AND THEY WERE REASONABLY INTELLIGENT - THEY WOULD MOST CERTAINLY TAKE SB OVER PK (IF THOSE WERE THE ONLY TWO OPTIONS) - BUT WOULD CERTAINLY WISH FOR A BETTER CHOICE

in terms of what really matters to university leadership - fundraising.

WELL, DIFFERENT ERAS - THAT CHANGED RAPIDLY (NIL AND WHAT NOT AMONG THEM).
BUT THAT IS RATHER LOL, GIVEN THE TWO DIFFERENT SETS OF SCENARIOS.
THAT SAID, BOTH WERE/ARE HORRIBLE.

There’s no way the university gets rid of him over the next few years, even if God forbid football tanks.
I WOULD PROBABLY GUESS SO - BUT AS SOON AS THEY CAN AVOID A BIG PR HIT (IT WOULD CLEARLY BE A HUGE PR BLACK EYE TO CAN HIM RIGHT NOW, FOR EXAMPLE, I THINK HIS LIFESPAN MIGHT BE THAT OF A FRUITFLY)
Well...

I’m all for if you can figure out a way the university cans him. 😀 After the coaching search concluded last year, I was told by a couple posters on this board to stop calling him Krafty. Well, he deserves worse than that. I still do think Campbell, despite some obvious missed steps over the last few games, is going to end up being a good hire, but he came into this down 70 players and without a real recruiting class last year because the former coaching assistant leftovers were allowed to pillage the team and the class. That was all on Kraft.

I read this paragraph in the Athletic.
Adapt is the key word, because Smart has not overhauled his approach, or “embraced the chaos,” to borrow the phrase from Ole Miss, which exploited NIL and transfer portal freedoms to raise the Rebels’ status. Georgia, on the other hand, has the third-least transfers (seven) among power conference teams this year, and the spending on its roster barely ranks in the top 20, per The Athletic’s roster budget reporting project.
So, I would wager the AD was helpful in the process of creating this dynasty. I would further guess that he is highly compensated. Dude appears to make $750k less than Krafty. Damn we know how to budget.

I am not sure how much the AD has to do with that, but in any event:

While not quite as overblown as the "FACILITIES!!!!" arms race stupidity was over the previous two decades:
The headlong obsession/stupidity with "WE JUST NEED MORE NIL $$$ TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!" is nearly as overblown.

Fortunately - or not, depending on your perspective - that will all likely be in the rear view mirror soon (sooner rather than later, if the Big 10 and SEC - I mean the US Congress :) - get their way with something like the Kill Save College Sports Bill)
That will kill off 1/2 of the competition of course - it will also further the fiscal cliff facing those schools who remain - but they don't care - or are too stupid - or, I suppose in this case, both.

Anyway. The one "advantage" - unless they completely FUBAR even this (which is, indeed, a distinct possibility) it would place the remaining idiots on a "level playing field" :) as they race to MAD. So there is that :)
Until the NEXT ego-driven arms race materializes.

In the meantime, the "fans" (until they wise up) and the sport get bent over the barrel some more.

Ain't it all grand?
