Gotta think things aren’t looking good with Mulcahy.
No program only offers 1 guy at each position.
A few things on Mulcahy per my thoughts:Gotta think things aren’t looking good with Mulcahy.
yeah but me thinks the smell in the air on Hyatt and Mulcahy is "they're better than us" regardless of how hard Pike has worked them IF something better comes along. Hope I'm wrong but have seen this movie before as much as I've seen the March of the Wooden Soldiers and the Ten Commandments.
Interesting that he's top 150 but we're only his second high major offer. Would expect to see at least one or two others. I'm sure they'll come now that we've offered :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Edit: Even more puzzling, TOS has him in the top 100 and a 4 star, and with no offer from Iowa State or any other P5 school. #1 player in Louisiana. Weird. Gotta think more offers are on the way.
A few things on Mulcahy per my thoughts:
- When Pike met with him, I did not like Mulcahy's comments. He did not seem grateful and/or appreciative and made comments such as "Pike stated they really need me".
- If he is waiting on a Nova offer, I read somewhere that Nova is interested in Pace Mannion - a guard who may reclassify to 2019 from 2020. Don't know if they play similar games or positions etc.
Also some reporter was mentioning what a monster class Nova may have for 2019 and listed 7 possible recruits including Nic Mannion; Joe Girard; Josh Green etc - and Mulcahy was not mentioned.Interesting.
Is it better for a recruit to hear they really Need me or really Want me ? Maybe it does not matter and I'm splitting hairs.
Nova likes to shoot threes and they can likely land a higher rates better shooter every year. Doesn't make sense on either side for me really as he could have a bigger impact hereyeah but me thinks the smell in the air on Hyatt and Mulcahy is "they're better than us" regardless of how hard Pike has worked them IF something better comes along. I am not sure about smells in the air and I don't really know what that means.
People have mentioned Villanova as his dream, but, unless Mulcahy turns into an elite shooter over nite, I doubt they offer.
Interesting.

I don’t think we have room for any point guard
Think the two ships must be
Wing forward ...Hyatt or Massoud hopefully
Post player
If someone transfer ...number 3 would be a point guard
Do we really have a point guard on the roster?
I guess we will find out in the next 2 years.
aroma...what's cooking in the kitchen.I am not sure about smells in the air and I don't really know what that means.

No, we didn't have a true point guard the last two seasons. And we finished in last place both years. Not a coincidence.I guess the question is did we have one the last 2 years??....true point guard?? Not at all.....scoring/combo guard that can break down defenders..?? yes....
Really? If you think that was the reason, you have a lot to learn what was wrong with the program prior to Coach Pike taking over. No, we didn't have a true point guard the last two seasons. And we finished in last place both years. Not a coincidence.
I get what your saying but do you think any of the guys you mentioned have the speed to penetrate and either dish, score or get to the line and hit their free throws consistently? When the shot clock is down to 10 and there were no other options, we gave the ball to Corey. And without any screens, he did what he could to score. His ball handling skills were just okay and his jumper got better but we were so dependent on him. The better teams had a guy who would take the ball to hoop or find open players cutting to the basket. That was what we were missing with Corey. I don’t know enough about mccconell or Mathis. But from the video I’ve watched it doesn’t look like they are very speedy guards and Harper is far from speedy and may not even be a guard? We don't need a point guard, we need ballhandlers. If some combination of Baker, McConnell, Mathis, and Harper can bring the ball up the court without being stymied, we'll be fine. Straight-up slash-and-kick basketball is dying... it's about movement, screens, and creating passing angles.
Editing to add: Obviously that's three freshman and a sophomore we're relying on. Everyone should be ready for more turnovers next season. Ideally the shooting will be much better and more than cancel that out.

I think the difference is that other than Corey, Geo, and Eugene (who really wanted the ball at times), everyone else was so gun shy that we ended up in the situation you're mentioning, with Corey pounding the rock and a dwindling shot clock. (Let's not mention the Freeman black-hole in the post...)I get what your saying but do you think any of the guys you mentioned have the speed to penetrate and either dish, score or get to the line and hit their free throws consistently? One things for sure. Souf was brought in to facilitate the offense but since he couldn’t shoot, he was worthless. I think you need shooters on the court at all times but the speed of the offensive sets needs one to two guys who could take the ball to the hoop and create a half court set that’s much more difficult to defend than what we’ve had around here. I never understood why more screens weren’t set even for Corey but I’m just a basketball fan watching from section 203.I guess the question is did we have one the last 2 years??....true point guard?? Not at all.....scoring/combo guard that can break down defenders..?? yes....
I guess the real question is the definition of a "true point guard."
If it is a guy whose primary function is to facilitate the offense and get the ball in the right people's hands and makes others better. NO.
If it is the guy who has the pipeline in to the coach and is trusted with the ball as a good ball handler. YES.
To be honest I am not sure what I want the roster to look like. I know I can't watch more of a lineup with a guard that is not a perimeter threat. I am not sure how necessary it is to have more than 4 bigs on the roster...are the days of the prototype power forward a thing of the past? can we go to war with Harpers and Thiams and other 6'6''+ guys as our 4th perimeter player?
Dribble penetration will always have a prominent role in basketball.
I would have liked to see it. Also might have helped Corey show that he could be more of a true point guard, and maybe kept defenses honest instead of collapsing on him constantly.Playing devil's advocate with you....and not necessarily disagreeing!
Could/should Sanders have been asked to penetrate more with the intent of passing. Corey could beat anyone off the dribble, but it really didn't translate to much. With dribble penetration Baker and Issa and Williams were capable of catch and shoot OR catch one swing pass and a shot.
It was very rare that Sanders got in to the paint with the intent to pass.
About 15 times last season Thiam would get the ball, make a move, and get to the rim. And that was great! Even if he missed more of those than he should've. I kept wanting to see that type of thing be a bigger part of the offense all season. But of course the personnel is a limiting factor, and Thiam didn't see comfortable with it.
Bottom line. I still think we might need a Mulcahy or Mylick Wilson. But, if you told me that we were getting Hyatt and Massoud and couldn’t take a true point guard, I would do that first and take my chances with the guards we have.
Not saying we are getting Hyatt and Massoud but if I was your accountant, that’s what I would do.

Going out on a limb here.........don't need Mulcahy.
Sina and Mulcahy are opposites in terms of players. They both played against the same weak competition in HS and both enjoyed padded (as in phantom) assist and other stat totals at GSB.
