I doubt it. If there are no on campus classes that means no dorms or food service either. Are you just going to open one dorm and one food areas just for athletes? And how is any of that safe? Because if the corona virus threat is still so severe that you can't have on campus classes, how in the heck do you justify having all of your athletes on campus and traveling on buses and planes in close proximity to each other? How do you have contact sports in a social distancing scenario? Furthermore, I doubt Title IX and a whole bunch of other laws would allow for universities to make an exception just for football. If you are going to allow football you will have to allow for all of the other sports too. That is thousands of athletes on campus living non social distancing rules. There is also the issue of coercion. What if an athlete isn't comfortable with risking their life just to play sports? Will there be an ultimatum: play football or lose your scholarship? And if you waive such rules there is still an element of coercion - - you will be looked down upon by your teammates and may never get your position back again. And that means.... this is all a lawsuit waiting to happen. The first football player who dies of Covid will have his family suing some school into oblivion.
So please let's stop the fantasy scenarios. If there are no on campus classes there is NOT going to be a football season.
You definitely have a great point. Tough to really argue any of that. I guess the only come back I can really make is based on all of the other sketchy stuff that goes on in college football, I'm guessing that literally some of the higher powers to be do not care about player safety the way you do and the only reason they would do it is for the income. Is that wrong? Probably. Is it true? Also probably. It works the same for CEOs of giant companies. Some of them are just scum bags who are money hungry and that's all that matters to them. They can buy their way out of lawsuits. You're certainly not wrong, but you might be wrong this time. Players sue all the time. Those Oregon boys sued Taggart for whatever it was and Taggart is still coaching and Oregon is still going strong. You don't even hear anything about those players and it was 100% health related.
Look I'm sorry but if there's anything they can do to get a football season going, they're going to. Even if the general public doesn't agree. If all of us are being honest, we may not like that decision, but we'll sure as **** buy those games on TV if that's what happens. That's just reality.
In my opinion, I think this is all dumb and I myself would have zero issues going to a packed Memorial Stadium this fall. I may get crucified for that opinion but what else is new in this country anyway
football is infinitely more dangerous than covid for healthy 18-22 year olds.
And athletes show up early and have their own access to dorms and the cafateria when students are not on campus. We will have football even if there is a health risk. Football keeps many of these businesses afloat. (Yes they are a business). Pennsy i wish you would have posted in the title 9 thread. Fwiw title 9 is about to get a dose of reality in my opinion.
I agree Pennsy, I don’t know how this is all going to work but they were talking on 1620 the zone and Sharpe said that some B1G AD’s were even going as far as having games played in January and February in dome stadiums..
In Minneapolis Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska would be playing games there.
In Detroit, Michigan and Michigan St possibly tOSU would play the games there.
In Indianapolis would have Purdue and Indiana possibly Illinois . so forth and so forth..
If kids are going back to school in September there isn’t going to be any football games either if they have to move the 2020 season till the winter..

Their just thinking ways of have a 2020 Football season.. Obviously there would be some sacrifices but better than the alternative which would be no college football season for 2020..
I think most schools are planning for in-person classes this fall. Purdue prez made a statement yesterday. Dumb not to plan on being in school this fall imo.
The sooner we all accept it the better off we'll all be. It's going to happen whether some like it or not.

Methinks too many people are letting the negative media cloud judgement. I find it ridiculous to be saying we wont have football season, especially before its even May!
This virus is not a death sentence. Not even close.
Let these 20 year olds play football. Their chances of dying from corona are lower than breaking their neck.

But I am currently in a stage where I do not think NU will make it back soon, if at all. We find some strange ways to lose some games. Bob Diaco coming in first game and beating us just sounds like it absolutely would happen.
I think Nebraska strayed too far from our identity. We have been piss poor for awhile and I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Administrators, fans, and coaches became very arrogant and thought we were too good for our own formula and thats still haunting us.
I think we lose.

It isn’t the players the authorities are worried about with regard to the season with fans in the stands. It’s the fans. Without fans it still doesn’t matter. Because the student athletes can become carriers and spread it even while asymptomatic. And spread it to people far more vulnerable. I am really sorry to rain on everyone’s parade here but IF there are no on campus classes, there isn’t going to be football this Fall either. I know it sucks but reality bites sometimes. Perhaps Scarlet is right and the season will be delayed until January.
I do believe we see more of that "identity" adjustment this season, being more power run that the older fans want to see come back. I don't have anything to back it up, just a hunch based on the play calling Frost has done when he gets pissed off during half time speeches. Felt like Greg Austin was really trying to imply it too during the round table interviews at the beginning of spring.
I mean Ronnie Green did just announce that classes would be in-person this fall....
Sadly, I think this is entirely true. As I posted last week, I have never been this pessimistic about the future of NU football.
He did? Well that is great news! Then the chances are good for a season. But perhaps without fans?? A lot can happen though between now and then. If we get hit with a second wave everyone goes back into panic mode

I'll be honest I'm still expecting probably no fans or atleast really scattered. Could even possibly be something immediate family like they did with Nebraska State Basketball? I don't know. They'll have a season but certainly will look different this time around.
Its driven by sanity. Considering it isnt even May the plan should absolutely be to open in fall.
Now if you are speaking of colleges in general, yes they are driven by money. But thats not unique to this situation.

Think about what the current death rate is and how many more people had it/have it and how much lower the mortality rate would be with more testing.
Throw in all the deaths attributed to coronavirus that are ludicrous.
Youd have to assume that we wont get more testing or treatment in three months.
I just dont think its worth ruining the economy over, at least not with the info at hand. Not having CFB will hurt the economy more than people realize, and this leads to deaths, too.
Heck, hospitals are hurting right now, less staff, and less people are seeking treatments for signs of heart attack and stroke.
I don't think we beat Purdue. Frost hasn't proven yet that he has a team prepared for opening day. We struggled with South Alabama last year
The team doesn't seem to show any improvement from game to game. Last year Nebraska beat Illinois by 4 points in the 4th game of the year. Over the course of the season Illinois improved and Nebraska didn't. If the NU vs. IU game were played at the end of the season Nebraska doesn't win that game.
Also, Nebraska has lost at least 4 games every year since 2004. Some teams know how to win and some teams need to learn how to win and Nebraska needs to learn how to win again. NU finds too many ways to lose.

I agree with all of this. Unfortunately, you and I don’t make the rules. And the authorities are in full *** covering mode. It has become as much political as anything else since no politician wants to be branded with being soft on Corona and thus responsible for deaths.
My comments above were ALL based on one assumption. Namely, that if there are no on campus classes there will also be no athletics, including football. If we do have on campus classes (as it seems we might, we will see) then we will probably have football but maybe without fans in the stands.

We also need to be discussing things in reality more instead of models politicians spoon feed us.

I won't go to a game until there is a vaccine. It's that simple. I will play golf, paddle board, hike, bike, go bird hunting, snow ski but I won't go to bars, restaurants, fly in a plane, go to large sporting events or any place else that has crowds until there is a vaccine. (Unless I get tested and find out I have the antibodies)
Well for me... I'm going to fly in a plane (already have multiple tickets booked), I will go to concerts and sporting events if available because I am going to live my life.
