COVID doesn't give you knee injuries.
And from everything I read, the market for Kemba was not good. It's a terrible contract given his inability to stay healthy. Nearly $74 million for a guy you can never count on to be able to play.
He’s had injury problems ever since getting to Boston, which predates COVID. His knee problems started in January 2020 and has been a chronic problem ever sinceI disagree. Over-using your knee in any scenario can give you knee injuries.. covid gave out PLENTY of injuries, let's be real. Now.. maybe Kemba had underlying knee wear.. but the 4 years prior, he played like 78 game seasons.. the dude has been healthy otherwise.
Kembas contract is not great... I agree. But there should be a lot of basketball left in him, and he could very well rejuvenate his career as he's only 31.
But the problem was Boston is looking to win now, and Kemba didn't really fit. But I think this trade does nothing for them, other than losing a near lottery pick. I dont think the FA money will matter at the end of the day.
This was a desperation move. A sell-off in hopes they can sign a FA... but who is the target, you think? Not a great FA class..
I wouldn’t have thought so, Kemba’s stock must have plummeted in Boston.umm.. what?
Kemba, the 16th pick and a future 2nd round... for Al Horford (at the end of his career), Moses Brown (who?), and a future 2nd round?
This can't be a real trade can it?
He’s got a lot of factors working against himI wouldn’t have thought so, Kemba’s stock must have plummeted in Boston.
He’s got a lot of factors working against him
- He’s a small guard, they rarely age well. A guy like Chris Paul is far more frequently the exception than the norm
- Aged 31, I believe. Not particularly old I agree, but like I said, small guards don’t generally age well.
- His ability to create his own shot relies a lot on his ability to change direction quickly (like step backs and cross overs)
- But he has a bad knee that’s been plaguing him for 1.5 years that needed surgery yet is still giving him trouble. That can really negate the effectiveness of a step back and other change of direction moves, and you know goes back to the whole small guards don’t generally age well thing
- He has one of the most expensive contracts in the league
- And his productivity has declined a good bit, even this year with the departure of Hayward, and he didn’t showed out particularly well in the playoffs.
There’s a difference between being a starting guard and a starting guard would 36 million though. 36 million is franchise player money and he’s not remotely that anymoreI just don't know if these are as bad as we think. His contract is not good, but its not unworkable. It's two years for 72million ish, and then he'll get a much smaller contract. And while this injury "may" derail his career, it's not a guarantee. He was one of the more resilient players his entire NBA career, 79 game seasons for like 4 straight years. I think what happened to I. Thomas is probably still too recent in our memory, especially Boston fans.
If Boston is able to use this FA money they saved, then it's a win for them. But we'll have to see on that. I dont think Kemba's career as a starting guard is over yet.
Moses Brown might be an insurance policy if they lose Robert Williams. Not really sure what the plan is with the five spot going forward after adding Horford and Brown. And those guys they want to sign and resign.. idk. I like Smart as a reserve player, a 6th or 7th type guy.. but Fournier? Williams? I know the bench is important.. but Boston needs to swing bigger.. if all they do is bolster their bench, by giving away Kemba Walker and a near lottery pick.. thats a loss in my eyes.
he’s a 5-9 non pg who shoots under 42% for his career. his strength was his strength in college. clear out and break a guy down for a 2. basically his only improvement in the league has been gaining a respectable % from 3.He’s got a lot of factors working against him
