Exactly. Your actions matter, and his actions should be alarming for any NBA team that needs to land an elite player.
This.

If I'm a GM or an executive, scout, whatever:

My first question is why wouldn't this kid play? You're so talented but feel like you have to hide something? It would worry me that this kid was on a team with multiple injuries and wasn't willing to get into the game and help out his team. I think we've seen with things like Ben Simmons--commitment matters.

If he "wasn't ready for college" in March, what makes him ready for the NBA in April?

If all your camp does is lie: Why should we ever believe anything you say?

My first thought was:

Maybe this will cause him to fall outside of the top 10 and he'll decide to come back. But I only think that because his camp has made it sound like the only way he would go is if he were some absurdly high pick. And they've lied about everything. So even if he's a 2nd rounder (which he definitely won't be), he's gone.

Maybe if the NBA calls BS on the graduation date. But even then, with all the drama and lies--do we really want to deal it for another year?

He needs to get away from Washington, whatever decision is made.

What did his transcript that he submitted to UK say? Bet $100 it didn’t say May…
If not, Cal wasn’t lying, he was lied to.

why do people assume stuff before ALL the facts come out?
He could have, but it’s indefensible that everyone outside of Cal knew he was NBA bound. As late as February Cal was still selling he will lead in 2023. All Cal had to do was state that there are questions regarding him and they will be answered after the season is over.

Hey NBA is full of guys who just sit out most if not entire seasons...doing their load management bullcrap. Ben Simmons, Kawhi Leonard, Zion Williamson, Anthony Davis, Paul George, etc... Sharpe will fit in well as another dude who care nothing about winning/organization....all about getting his contract/$$$$.

So NBA GMs be ware....you got a full glimpse of what lies beneath this guy potentially.

No one will want him around. The bridge has been burned on that end….

Yeah I guarantee no matter what they say publicly no GM will let him fall outside the lottery, unless he somehow has a terrible private workouts which is highly doubtful. He will dip at any pick IMO.

Well then, that is good with me. Can’t trust the kid or his advisors. ******** from day one, more likely on the way. But, we all know the kid will be drafted in the top 10. Doesn’t really matter. Maybe this article was triggered by some with some meat in the game? Kind of a self defense tactic?
I would think it’s an Executive in the late teens with a pick who is trying to get him to fall to them, I wouldn’t doubt that at all.

Wouldn't it be great if the NBA boycotted him in the first round?

No one respond to this by saying, "You're an idiot, that would never happen." I, of course, know that. But I'd love to watch him sit there and squirm as his name is not called.
We all would but unfortunately nobody has the balls to do it because money trumps everything.

So for a year this guy will have played against no competition and his last action was against high school kids in summer 2021.

I said this from the beginning. If you're legit, you don't shy from competition. You think any of the greats would have sat out? Nope. You are a giant coward if you're sitting out against college competition for fear you might be exposed before an NBA team gets fooled by your potential.

It was as late as after the St. Peter's loss Cal was still talking about Sharpe being here next season I think? Am I right on that?

Funny thing about this quote is there is no loyalty or trust in sports . There have been plenty of times players that got traded found out via TV or reporters.

Boogie found out he was traded from reporters while being interviewed after the all star game .

As much as I want to believe it will affect Sharpe it could just be bad mouthing so he’ll fall to that particular team

I’ll be honest..if all this is true Im not sure I want the kid back here if he does decide to withdraw from. The draft
Yes.

This.^^^^^^^

NBA execs are shadier than any of the players or their handlers. Probably trying to scare another team off of SS that has a higher pick than them.

Or, may be a friend of Cal's trying to take a little heat off his bud.

Unless they are man enough to give their name, these "anonymous" spokespersons are just a bunch of BS to me.

Good.

It was going to take a LOT for UK fans to find another player who was less likable than the likes of Daniel Orton, Jarred Vanderbilt, or Ashton Hagans ... Sharpe is easily at the top of the list and he'll hold onto that title for a long, long time.

Wow....

“We’ve known for a long time that this kid will be in the upcoming Draft," said the scout. "Everything he’s done since has hurt his perception. How do we trust a kid whose camp brazenly lies to every single person they come across?”

To me this is completely damning of Calipari and his staff. Does anyone really believe that there were no back and forth conversations between UK and NBA scouts about the Sharpe situation? Pretty sure team scouts did contact Calipari and say "Hey coach, you need to get Sharpe on the court so we have something to evaluate him on."
That's when Calipari should have relayed that message verbatim to the kid's family and said, "Look, I know you've had people in your ears but, this is what the NBA GM's want. It's time to pull the trigger and let the kid play." If they still balked after that then you release a statement to the effect that due to circumstances beyond the staff's control, Sharpe has elected to sit out the 21-22 season. And just let it sort itself out.
You definitely DO NOT continue to string the fanbase and everyone else along with the "maybe he'll play tonight hints" for a whole year.

Good for him. Hope they all realize how this whole thing was based on lies.

Tyty pack it in when he saw Sharpe do it.
Agree 100%!

Just educated speculation, but I believe if Sharpe isn’t at UK as a distraction, I think the Cats make a serious run at the title. Just look at how they handled both teams that were in the title game.

TyTy and a couple of others not named Oscar basically checked out. Injuries Sminjuries!

And this entire thing could be to get a player to fall to that team being aided by all the parties too. Didn't Matt Jones put out some "insider" note to him about how everyone was "good" with each other yesterday? Then the blame game started up as deflection.

All I can say is Pro sports teams can talk of character, etc.....all they care about is the talent and can the player help them win games. If it's a scheme to get him to drop to a certain team, then you'd like to think Calipari would at least make sure that team has a friendly agent repay him by sending players to Lexington. LOL

Just to add to this.. I cut 2 kids this year for character issues. One trying to play on my team and another and lying about the reasons for missed practices (couldn’t keep up with both) and another for on the floor antics that made our team and organization look bad. If you want college coaches to take you and your team serious, you better play with and display high character. Skills are important…. Who you are and how you fit is the first thing they notice..
How dare you…that’s somebody’s son, like Cow would say.

This is what I believe. UK compliance is all over this stuff. There is zero way he graduated officially in May. There is absolutely no way they didn't know whether it was May or October.

Based on all the hearsay we've all heard, I've concluded his camp and I assume SS want to go to the NBA, they got feedback suggesting he may not be eligible because of his October graduation, they looked at how many credits he needed to technically graduate back in May (for example my senior year I only needed one more class for enough credit hours to graduate even though there were 6 periods.) and found he met those standards.

I assume before they had assurances October wasn't wasn't issue, that's why he wasn't eligible here the fall semester, more feedback from NBA comes in, Cal is told, the narrative publicly is slowly crafted and changes, Cal hopes he will return but can't guarantee it, and now here we are with a blatant PR blitz to cover up all of this chicanery.

At the end of the day Cal kept holding out hope that he will return, and he isn't going to publicly burn that bridge because as far as we know up to now SS eligibility with these transcript shenanigans hasnt been decided by the NBA. Hence the class enrollment as a CYA in case he has to play catch up and be here next year.

Everyone caught up now?

Exactly!!

And this same NBA exec will take him if he has the opportunity!! This entire situation STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN!! Everyone involved knew this kid was NEVER playing here. Cal was well aware of it the ENTIRE time.

Like others have said, Cal is just SOOOOOO desperate to be attached to the very elite kids again that he was willing to take a hit from the fans over this kid. He just didn’t realize it would cause such a HUGE uproar. Now he’s in CYA mode.

I think this writer did this story because he thought he was the guy to break the Sharpe to the NBA thing but later on Sharpe’s parents said not so fast …so for the lack of a better word or phrase …he got butthurt

You don't know who this "NBA exec" is supposed to be or if he even exists.

This whole affair reminds me of that old joke. A guy goes to a psychiatrist who gives him the ink blot test.

-What does this make you think of?" [a blot like a butterfly that got stepped on]
-Sex.
-And this? [a blot like a sheep wearing hi heels]
-Sex
and on and on.
-Well, Doc. What do you think?
-I think you think too much about sex.
-Me? You're the guy with all the dirty pictures.

Or, they encourage a kid to go pro and the kid goes undrafted (Florida player some years ago). I think they wanted more options in the draft and this kid got left out in the cold when better players declared.

If he "wasn't ready for college" in March, what makes him ready for the NBA in April?
Do we really need to explain this yet again?

The NBA does not draft based upon whether a player is “ready” right now. Instead, it drafts based upon a projection of the player a prospect is expected to become in the future …because the future version is what they’re paying for. And apparently scouts think Sharpe has the potential to become a future NBA star.

Given that projection, I’d guess his camp decided that playing at UK could only hurt his stock. If he looked great …well, that’s simply what was already expected. But, if he looked bad, scouts might re-evaluate him downward.
