No they were youth flag football. It wasn’t specified what level of programs in his question. I guess in terms of college program I’ve done that on EA sorts PlayStation game. You've built two college football programs ?

It's amazing how quickly I turned UTEP into a dynasty. No they were youth flag football. It wasn’t specified what level of programs in his question. I guess in terms of college program I’ve done that on EA sorts PlayStation game.
Nice! I took Kansas to 3 straight big 12 titles and one national championship, I was Mark Mangino lolIt's amazing how quickly I turned UTEP into a dynasty.
when i tell you my montana state bobcats were a juggernaut, know i stood on business. It's amazing how quickly I turned UTEP into a dynasty.
Yeah, in retrospect, given the built in recruiting advantage, maybe turning UTEP in a dynasty isn't as impressive as Montana State.when i tell you my montana state bobcats were a juggernaut, know i stood on business.
not only is that on god (as well as my mama), that's also no cap
Rhule has never coached at a Blue Blood program.not the way the Rhule has traditionally done it. 1st year is usually a throwaway to parlay for future years vs delay development of his system/culture. It is what it is.
No we wouldn't be debating that. Everyone sees just how terrible our passing game is they would have given grace for taking the sensible approach. After action arm chair coordinator's have all the answers. What have you seen from these QB's in practice ? Are we so powerful up front that we can just pound the rock now ? What happens when we kick 3 and then get beat by a TD on Marylands next drive. We would back here today debating why we didn't try to win.
I have a feeling Maryland would have scored 7No we wouldn't be debating that. Everyone sees just how terrible our passing game is they would have given grace for taking the sensible approach.
Are we good enough to just pound the rock? Our quarterbacks are so atrocious our opponents load the box to stop the run, and we rank first in the conference in rushing. So the answer is yes although we do have to pass it sometimes to keep them somewhat on their toes. But we didn't have to pass when we got to the 5. Once we got to the 5 that wasn't the argument anymore. The argument is does a fg after 3 runs then kickoff with 2:40 left win the game? More than likely.
And I don't think they would have. Defense did a great job of stifling their offense. I have a feeling White and the Blackshirts would have sealed the dealI have a feeling Maryland would have scored 7
And if they hadn't, we bet our chips on the strong area of our team, and pushed all in with the best hand to only get rivered. Oh wellAnd I don't think they would have. Defense did a great job of stifling their offense. I have a feeling White and the Blackshirts would have sealed the deal
they ran down the field on their last 2 drives with ease. And I don't think they would have. Defense did a great job of stifling their offense. I have a feeling White and the Blackshirts would have sealed the deal
We watched the game.they ran down the field on their last 2 drives with ease.
What if we needed 7 to go to OT? Or we kick a FG and lose by 4? Then the story is that we should have been more aggressive.
but being conservative also loses gamesWe watched the game.
We had 6 TOs by QBs.
No we would have been pissed the defense lost the game
Being aggressive gets you beat in this league when you should be conservative.
ONE freaking QB. That’s what it would take to be sitting at 9-1 right now.Better get kids that can execute these self proclaimed good plays they are calling.
Maryland scored one TD all game. With NU offense. You have to take points. Points are at a premium with how inept the offense is. Also 3 runs in the goal to go situation keeps the clock moving. I like this staff. But they blew this one. You have to take the points in this situationthey ran down the field on their last 2 drives with ease.

they rushed for 100 yards in the 4th quarter. They were finding their groove late in the game, like Nebraska did against Miami in 1995.Maryland scored one TD all game. With NU offense. We didn’t call a pass play on 1st down. That was all Chubba. 2nd down lost 2 yards. With the offensive momentum MD had, they score a TD. They shut it down to try a FG. I’m comfortable believing MD scores what was needed to win or tie.No we wouldn't be debating that. Everyone sees just how terrible our passing game is they would have given grace for taking the sensible approach.

So what. Was evidence itself not enough to show you what happened. That late in the 4th and they still only had 10 points take the lead. I do like the fact you glossed over the opportunity to milk the clock keeping with the running gamethey rushed for 100 yards in the 4th quarter. They were finding their groove late in the game.

They’re a soft team coached by an idiotthey rushed for 100 yards in the 4th quarter. They were finding their groove late in the game, like Nebraska did against Miami in 1995.
it is easy to see things in hindsight of course but a FG doesn't guarantee a winSo what. Was evidence itself not enough to show you what happened. Neither does a td then. They would have scored easy according to you and won in OTit is easy to see things in hindsight of course but a FG doesn't guarantee a win
Possibly. QB play lost that game.Neither does a td then. They would have scored easy according to you and won in OT
I appreciate other opinions but all your posts sound like Matt's wife wrote it.After action arm chair coordinator's have all the answers. What have you seen from these QB's in practice ? Why do you keep saying it's a throw away? It goes on our record, on Rhule's record, on the kids who only have so many years to play. This attitude is just insane, I can't fathom thinking that "going into a shell to win" is somehow bad. It makes no sense.I agree. It just stunts growth and the first year is a throwaway for all intents and purposes for wins/losses but much more important for laying the groundwork for the better years.
look at Rhule's history of how he builds programs. Stunting long term development for a transition year isn't wise. Why do you keep saying it's a throw away? Do you think he WANTED to have a bad first year? Like, that was the plan? In what world is it where you can't have some success and develop at the same time? And news flash, he won't be here very long anyway, if he does poorly he'll be gone in a few seasons. If he does amazing, he'll be gone in a few seasons. There's no "long term" to even be worried about...look at Rhule's history of how he builds programs. Stunting long term development for a transition year isn't wise.
I never insinuated that he wanted to have a bad first year. And pure conjecture on the bolded.Do you think he WANTED to have a bad first year? Like, that was the plan? you are saying a lot without saying anything. I never said any of what you suggest. You put your system in place and win with that system and improve in that system. What coaches listen to fans' hairbrained schemes? Only the weak ones, like Riley. You keep saying that his first year being terrible is just part of the process or something, that's just insanity. There's nothing that says you can't build a culture AND win your first season. It's not some grand plan to not win games...I can't believe this is even a discussion. You're paid to win if you're a coach, you don't lose games in the interest of "growth" or whatever nonsense you are trying to defend.
the "smarter play" is the one that works in hindsight, buckoYou said what you said. You tried to spin not calling a smarter play because he's trying to build a culture even if it costs them games. That's ridiculous, don't back away from it now, just own that foolishness.
Oh man. You really need to put the bottle down. Embarrassing takeMatt Rhule's first year as head coach was ten years ago. The face of college football has been turned inside out since then. If Rhule truly thinks we're going to paddy cake and dance around like faeries for three years he's going to he so far behind he'll be burned at some proverbial stake.
I've been coaching for what seems like forever. I never approached a situation in a game where I thought geez...lets be careless and take the risk of losing this game because it might build a championship down the road. And we have played for many championships.Of course you want to win. They weren’t trying to lose. But you protecting the kids to prevent mistakes will never allow for growth and this team was never going to be good enough to get where we want. So you put them in positions to make plays and succeed, but you don’t protect them from making mistakes. Like Rhule said “how are we going to build a championship team if we’re always worried about making a mistake?”
the only way to win is not to playbut being conservative also loses games
When you preach improvement and process, you have to give them a chance to grow, even if it sucks in the short term. Going into a shell offensively might have helped us win another game or two, but could stunt player development. Call the plays you’ve seen them execute in practice. Live with the consequences.
