I went to frisco once. It was Labor Day and we had the windows down. We came across the bay bridge from Oakland and made that right towards the warf and it was so stinking cold that we had roll up the windows and throw on the heater

That reminds me of when I first moved west. My youngest came to visit me in June 1998 so I thought I would take her to visit a California beach. We went to Santa Cruz because I had heard about their boardwalk. We pulled up in our shorts and T-shirts, stepped out of the car then jumped back in to put on long pants and anything else we could find. Everyone on the beach other than us was wearing a parka. A few years later I went back in January with my wife and the temp was in the 80s and we were very comfortable in shorts and light shirts. With the pacific weather depends on which way the wind is blowing.
I. HATE. THAT. BRIDGE.
We stayed in Oakland for some ridiculous reason...at Jack London Sq which was neither nice nor clean nor charming. We went over that bridge a couple of times to get into SF and do the touristy things (pier 39, Ghiradelli Sq, etc.) The only things that were cool about the Oakland side of the bay were the trip to Alameda and the Pinball Museum of the Pacific (really cool place) and a trip to a local park near Berkley that had some of the giant sequoias. The wedding was up in San Rafael at a bar owned by one of the former members of the Grateful Dead and going over that bridge from Oakland you see San Quentin, which at the time was the permanent home of Charles Manson.
The weather patterns have changed a lot in northern California. When we moved there in the late 90s, we'd get maybe 2 or 3 days in the 90s a year. By the late 2010s, it was several stretches a year. When we moved there, you were fine mid-peninsula without A/C, by 2018, you pretty much had to have central A/C.
LOL, your friends and family in MA are going to disown your weak a$$!! I was in Boston for the 1997 April Fools blizzard. The closest Nor Cal came was once when schools closed because it rained hard (I'm not kidding).
My wife frequently teases me that I've lived in Tulsa longer than I lived in MA now. Self admittedly, Tulsa has eliminated my tolerance to cold and ice.
Heading for Myrtle Beach now. A 3.5 to 4 hour drive. Hoping to celebrate a win tomorrow night.
I am leaving at 6 a.m. and heading for the parking lot. It’s a 5.5 - 6 hour drive for me. Be safe out there.
