I’m just now getting to watch the game. Not sure if mentioned but love how Vitale said Hagans was getting close but not as good as Tre Jones as a on the ball defender. It’s eating Coach Ks army up.

Jones and Hagans are the 2 best defenders at the guard spot so he has a point but it does look bad a Duke player making a fuss like he did. He ain't wrong though.

Well, Bilas is just trying to save face. He just attempted to make the case in a game last week that Tre Jones is the best defensive player in the nation. Then he backtracked and said he was the best defensive freshman in the nation. He's full of crap on this one, though. I noticed Duke Vitale tried to make the same argument during our game tonight. That is part of the ESPN talking points this week, apparently. I think I'm gonna cry Jones isn't on the list. Ha!

I noticed that too. Thought maybe Jay slipped him a note.

I’ve never seen so many people ate up with a sports play by play guy. Who gives a crap what jay bilas says? There are more jay bilas threads on this board than we should be willing to admit. Shameful.
This board has serious peter envy and insecurities with Duke and anything associated with the institution.

I can think of many things in life that are shameful. However, starting a Jay Bilas thread does not make the cut for me personally.

Anything Duke related gets brought to this board. That’s shameful. I don’t mind taking about them, but it’s everywhere every single day.

Only time or reason I would care what Bilas says, is, as a well-known sports analyst his opinion carries weight and can influence voters in the various awards.
Mostly though, he’s become quite annoying and I ignore him.
Then again, I usually ignore these threads, too...

Bilas is becoming an embarrassment to sports journalism. You are supposed to be unbiased when doing games etc as an announcer. That's sports coverage 101 I think it's funny ESPN puts him on every single Duke game as well.

threw a tantrum on twitter today because Tre Jones was left off the national defensive player of the year award list. Is he not supposed to at least act neutral? He needs to learn a thing or two from others like Herbstreit.
Jay quit pretending to be unbiased a few years ago.
Pretty much like the networks quit pretending around 2008.

This is a bad take. Tre Jones is one of the best defenders in the nation, if not the best.

of course hagans is a superior off-the-ball defender. has to be the best in the country at his position.

Bilas used to be the best but his unhealthy bias makes him look small and whiny. Sad.

I think it is asking a lot to expect any of these guys to be neutral. Ideally, it would be best if they were neutral. Bilas certainly isn’t. But none of them are.

No, he's not the best. And I don't mind you thinking he's the best because you're a Duke fan. It's natural. But Bilas is a sports journalist and he's not supposed to have that same bias. But he does have that bias. He probably can't see it, but those of us who aren't Duke fans can see it as plain as day.

Look, I'm not saying Tre Jones isn't a good defender. He's very good. He's probably the best defensive player on Duke's roster. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. But to act like it's a crime to not include him on this national list is over the top. Who else was left off? Is Jay about to have a meltdown over other guys not making this list? Not likely. He watches more Duke basketball than any other team. He's a Duke fan. It's natural. Problem is, he's supposed to be unbiased. Yet he was making the case for Jones on a nationally televised game just last week. That's why I say he's trying to save face.

I don't necessarily think Jay is biased in his opinions and knows his stuff but MAN has that guy turned into into one of the whiniest things out there. Just pick a subject and he feels the need to express his indignation and outrage and go into a whining rant over the unfairness of it all. Very millenial.

Larry Conley announced our games for years and was always neutral

I used to like Bilas but he has become insufferable. He no longer pretends to be unbiased, as he is now an unabashed Duke Cheerleader. Further, he is probably the most condescending and arrogant talking head on TV (and that's saying a lot). If you disagree with him, you're a moron in his mind. It's a binary world that he lives in...
