want to talk about a cluster. that site the state is using to schedule vaccines. they were not prepared for the governor to release it to everyone 65 and under with prexisting conditions which is a good portion of the state. my parents who are in the 65-74 crowd that were to be next after the over 75 crowd are now struggling to find an appointment because he didnt' space that out like they planned to do originally. now you have 8000 in queue on that site . i was also redirected when i called a few other private hospitals that they are funneling everything through the ummc system site and phone lines now. so instead of distributing it widely they are making you go to one site and two phone numbers that are busy all the time now. i understand that he is wanting to get it to as many people as possible but you kind of screwed that 65-74 group who are still some of the most vulnerable compared to younger folks. most of the state can qualify under the obese qualification.

I’d expect phase 1c.1 to be open for 2-3 months before the next phase opens. 65-74 and individuals with underlying health conditions is likely close to a million people in the state...

Strong advice: don’t expect to actually get vaccinated before late April or early May and you will not likely be disappointed

well any one over 65 and anyone under 65 with prexisting health conditions can now schedule if they can find an appointment. i'm more worried about my parents than i am myself. i tried multiple times last night to make them an appointment and this morning. last night i got through, but then no confirmation email and when i tried to look them up in the appointment finder it didn't find them. So looks like it didn't go through. Of course can't get anyone to answer the phone either with this many people calling it's just a busy signal.

I hate that for you.

I went through it some last week with my mother and stepfather what with them being over 75. They couldn't sign up immediately anyway since she gets rashes when receiving shots.

Fortunately my mother had to visit her doctor last week and were able to schedule an appointment for their first round of vaccinations a few days from now.

I signed up at 5:00 AM. We're going to have to drive to Neshoba Co. next week to get it but I'll take it. Couldn't get in yesterday though we tried til about midnight. To be honest I had started thinking Mar-Apr and feel fortunate as of right now but will be totally unsurprised if something gets screwed up between now and next week and we get delayed.

Not that this will make any of you feel better, but here in Alabama they planned better*****. One telephone number to call, no online option. Between my wife and myself, we have called the number over 500 times. My wife got through once, and they told her they would call back to schedule the vaccination. I laughed when my wife believed that they would.

Went online today for my mother in Starkville and when I got to site I was number 4,606 in the queue waiting for an appointment. It took about 40 minutes to get in and when I did there were no appointments in Starkville (and nothing to tell you when there will be, just says "Unavailable") The closest places otherwise for my 80 yr old mother to drive to were Philadelphia, Greenville, Flowood, Batesville, Meridian, Laurel, or Desota County. She's a left hand lane driver so you don't want her on the roads.

Took me 1 1/2 hours last kept getting an error message would ha e to go back and start all over again. I was pissed but persistent, got lucky and got both of us with appointments next week in Starkville. Tate didn’t plan this out at all and now has an overloaded system.

No kidding. Alabama doesn’t start vaccinating people 75 and over until Monday the 18th. They just figured out the need an online portal and should have that in a couple weeks. Alabama is making Mississippi look damn efficient.

Everyone was too busy screaming "WE NEED TO REOPEN THE ECONOMY!"

Also, we suck at central planning. We would have been better off if they just let doctors offices order the vaccines like they do for every other vaccine.

I might have qualified via that manner last year but not going out to eat and some dietary changes (no Cokes since March) has meant that I've lost some weight.

I'm doing my best to imagine libertarian central planners. They must hail from the same place as Santa and the Tooth Fairy... **

I am 68 with a heart condition and mild diabetes. Attempting to make a drive thru appt. right now online. Currently number 1,362 in the queue. I am not expecting success with it, but I will try. This is truly a cluster 17.

Eta- now my queue number has been upped to 3,709. Cluster 17.

My 85 year old mother had an appointment for this past Monday in Greenwood (apparently the NG is giving it ?). Due to Sunday night's snow, they rescheduled. I drove from Jxn to Winona on Monday morning, the roads were 100% clear.

Not true - I know two people that called and were told they had 200 extra vaccinations and was first come first serve.
I’m guessing anyone, no matter their age could have showed up and gotten the vac yesterday.

I believe you, but the state guidelines still say they are beginning 75 and over on Monday.

Ok, now I give up. After patiently waiting for my number to get down to 300, it jumped up to over 6,000. What a cluster 17.

Well, I don't know that healthy 65-74 year olds are any more deserving than unhealthy 50 year olds. I get that a lot of vunlerable people are vulnerable because of their lifestyle choices, but they also in theory have the most to lose, so I don't have a problem balancing that out and making them equal. It seems reasonable to me that we open it up and how quickly you get it more or less be determined by a combination of luck and how motivated you are to get it.

I think it would have been better to start off with 50-64 with pre-existing conditions, but I'd rather err on the side of too many people trying to get appointments at once rather than having appointments open because they made the qualifying groups too small.

Both my mother and father are 78 years old.

Mom has been calling the telephone number to schedule a vaccine appointment, and she always gets the busy signal when she calls.

I wonder whether she can call (or, visit) her doctor and get scheduled for a vaccine?

Are all doctors doing that for their elderly patients?

My doc basically told me to contact the health dept. I'll probably be in the market for a new one before long.

Actually, I did not give up and I'm glad I didn't. Was able to get an appointment for next Monday at the Leflore County Health Dept.

It definitely wouldn't hurt for them to ask their primary care providers for help. A friend of mine did that and successfully arranged shots for her mother and father-- both of whom are also over 75.

I got through yesterday and set up an appointment for this Friday in Philadelphia. I'm 66 so just became eligible. I live in Lauderdale county buy couldn't get anything there even tho the website showed a couple of days available. After about a dozen tries I finally tried Philly and it went right on through. Surprised and happy to get it this early. Only a 40 min drive so no biggie.

I set up my grandparents' appointment today. If you make it through the queue to the part where you choose a location, you can refresh that page without losing your spot. Even though it may say nothing is available, many times when I refreshed options would become available. Then it's a sprint to actually select the date and time. So if you go through the queue and nothing is available, stay on that page and refresh.

That’s what my Cardiologist told me and my primary care Doctors office told me.
Not sure I have a lot of confidence in these county health departments.

Just announced: Mississippi has no vaccine to make any more appointments. Every dose we have is now tied to an appointment. If you read between the lines basically Tate Reeves overruled the carefully crafted plan and now it's all in shambles. The politicians need to but out of this stuff. We won't have anymore till mid Feb.

Don't know all the details, but I'd rather see it this way than wasting away on shelves because of inefficiency the other direction.

That makes me wonder about the second dose l. Do they prioritize second doses or new ones? It’s no good if you don’t get the second one.

The Moderna one is 80-90% effective after one shot. The Pfzer one is only 50%. The Health Department is doing the Moderna. The politicians need to BUTT OUT. They screw up everything they touch, esp
Tate Reeves.

Thought I'd heard you can schedule the vaccination online. Not sure if that's statewide or just local. I don't qualify yet.
