Most significant transfer?

Marcus Simms is transferring. And it stinks. 3 years of production. All 3 with guys ahead of him in the pecking order. I would argue his ceiling was as high as any guy we've had since Kevin (Shelton, Ka'Ruan, Gary, Sills). Could have easily been looking at a 1300 yard 10+ touchdown season this year. Real shame.

But the question I want answered.. Is Simms the most significant transfer we've dealt with? I feel comfortable saying it is in the 15ish years I've been watching.

Maybe you could say Matt Jones is a big one because he was a starter, but he was a bad starter, tbh.

Adam Shuller? Better player than Jones, but probably a net positive getting him off the squad.

Lamonte McDougal? He's got potential. He's one to look out for.

Dustin Garrison and Andrew Buie were fine, but no where near as good or high of a ceiling as Simms.

Durante is a good option. The fact that he ran a 4.6 is absolutely baffling to me. He glided down field. Durante was good and a big loss, but I think Simms is better + I believe we went and got Sills back because he left.

Jordan Roberts could have undoubtedly been a productive back had he waited Devine out. But he's not in the same ball park as Simms.

Quinton Andrews is big. He was a good player who would have gotten better, but he may have been kicked off the team opposed to leaving.

Guys who have been at this longer than me, who's a pre-2002 name that I don't know. And maybe I'm missing someone from the last decade +.

Since TVZ/Cranium hijacked the other thread, I'll chime in and say simply that the transfer rule is killing college sports. I'm okay with the rule itself, but it needs to somehow be refined, possibly to include an earlier cutoff date. Having people transfer out once spring ball is completed is BS, imo.

It is a two way street. Just look at the transfers coming or who are already on the roster...
Allison, Kendall, TJ Simmone, Jovani Haskinsm Michael Brown, Taijh Alston, Brenon Thrift, Charlie Becton....
And last year's #1 guy Will Grier and the QBs before him. They come and they go...next man up.

Some players can't handle change. Good luck to him. Hope it's not a severe injury as why he is moving on. He was hit on a helmet to helmet shot in the OU game. No flag thrown for targeting.

According to a report by Deadspin, Oklahoma outlasted West Virginia, 59 to 56, in a classic Big 12 shootout, and one of the biggest plays in the game came at the tail end of the first quarter. Oklahoma safety Robert Barnes appeared to target West Virginia receiver Marcus Simms. After the hit, Simms had to be helped off the field and was not allowed by medical staff to return to the game, while no penalty was called and Barnes was allowed to stay in the game. Deadspin reports that West Virginia coach Dana Holgorson is likely to lodge a complaint after reviewing replays of the hit.

That was always the rule....
Only thing different is graduates don't have to sit out a year.
But players could always transfer at any time

Now they don't have to ask permission.
Before you had to go to the coach.
Always thought that was stupid.

I'm OK with the transfer rules as they are now. Putting a timeline on a transfer would help some of the programs, but it just isn't fair to the player. Lots of things happen in the spring especially after a coaching change. Sometimes it takes a number of practices to realize that the fit just isn't there any more.

Players should have to pay back portions of their scholarship money just as a coach has to pay a buyout.

OR....

Their should also be a window for transfers.

Thank you all for answering the question and not talking about the exact same thing on this thread as you've all talked about on countless other threads.

I nominate QB Scott McBrien, who transferred to Maryland in 2001, and came back to haunt Rich Rod's Mountaineers.

Good point.

It is a good point, except his examples are off some. M. Brown & C. Benton are Juco recruits. But, The others transferred from other D1 schools. But if his point is we have gained more than we lost, I’d have to agree. You can add V. Cowan K. Bigelow, J. Robinson & S. Ryan to the list. So i don’t think it is unfair to lose a talented player or two to others.

And if this is supported by our coaches, Mr. Simms should have total freedom to do what is best for himself and his family.

That's a great one. Luckily we may have replaced him with a better QB, but he did save his best games for WVU. So he's technically directly responsible for 2 losses. Which is massive.
